Oh! Modestep at #56 and Engelbert at #64. :o

Edited by Jason

Keane’s fifth consecutive number one album! :cheer: It’s also great to see jumps for Emeli Sande, Rebecca Ferguson, Gotye (airplay for his new song picking up, I presume), and Train, even though they’ve dropped from their midweek position. Unfortunately, there are a load of drops, too: Marina and the Diamonds, Alabama Shakes, Norah Jones, and Jason Mraz. Especially a shame for Alabama Shakes – they had a good chart run up to now – 03-09-06-09-. Surprised to see Madonna’s MDNA still Top 40! :o

Singles chart is pretty boring as usual, but it’s great to see Temper Trap and Emeli Sande’s new song in the Top 40! 3 Justin Bieber songs, however, is NOT good!

A bit of album trivia, only 2 albums have spend 2 weeks at #1 so far this year they are Lana Del Ray and Adele, the rest have been 1 weekers. Anyone thought singles was bad for 1 weekers well the album #1s is looking diabolical.

RE 07 Jan Ed Sheeran - + 1wk

RE 14 Jan Adele – 21 1wk

RE 21 Jan Bruno Mars – Doo Wops & Hooligans 1wk

RE 28 Jan Adele – 21 1wk

RE 04 Feb Ed Sheeran - + 1wk

938 11 Feb Lana Del Rey – Born To Try 2wks

939 25 Feb Emeli Sandé – Our Version Of Events 1wk

RE 03 Feb Adele – 21 1wk

RE 10 Mar Emeli Sandé – Our Version Of Events 1wk

940 17 Mar Bruce Springsteen – Wrecking Ball 1wk

941 24 Mar Military Wives – In My Dreams 1wk

942 31 Mar Paul Weller – Sonik Kicks 1wk

943 07 Apr Madonna – MDNA 1wk

944 14 Apr Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded 1wk

RE 21 Apr Adele – 21 2wks

945 05 May Jack White – Blunderbuss 1wk

946 12 May Marina & The Diamonds – Electra Heart 1wk

947 19 May Keane - Strangeland 1wk so far...

I wouldn't particularly mind if the sales were good!

I have some important revision to do tonight so there'll almost certainly be no update - sorry, I'll try and do it tomorrow.

Gwon Engelbert at #64 :P His first new chart hit in 12 years, though 'Release Me' was re-released and re-charted for a week in 2004.

Have you got the sales of Keane's last 4 albums please ( i thought their latest was their 3rd album ) cant believe they have released 5.

I'd arguably say that the 1-13 fall is the worst ever, Ellie and Christina's falls that beat it had Mother's Day/Father's Day accelerating them didn't they? Marina had nothing, and only three new albums. Shocking.

Their previous #1 was an EP, but still a number one. I'll have a look for some estimates, but I hope Music Week will give sales tomorrow! :D

Also, Ellie Goulding stabilised after it fell 1-16, and sold way over 600k! As for Christina Aguilera, just over 60k...

Gutted at Cover Drive and B.O.B debuting at #14 and #30 respectively. :( And yet Adele, Jessie and Ed are STILL in the top 15 after all these months.

And on the singles chart we have Ordinary People, Hey Soul Sister, Sweet Disposition and I'm Yours all top 40 even though they're years old, plus Sexy and I Know It (since October) and then the likes of Mama Do The Hump, Somebody That I Used To Know, Starships, Turn Me On, Titanium, Wild Ones, Take Care, Next To Me and Domino are still hanging around after all these months. Shame they're all sticking around and other fresh songs like ill Manors, Love Me, Bright Lights, Last Time, Seven Nation Army, So Good, Primadonna, Sparks, Rockstar, Ass Back Home, Charlie Brown, Elephant, End Of Time, Climax, 30 Days, Glitter and Gold, Travellers Chant and others all have/will have short chart runs/miss the top 40.

The only way to allow the charts have fresh songs is basically disqualify songs after a certain amount of weeks. Or have a panel of the OCC which "vetos" the songs.

Yay Engelbert, already FAR more successful than Josh, and beating Andy Abraham too. Hopefully bodes well for a top 40 hit post-Eurovision!

Or radio and music channels can extend their playlists to more than 10 songs.

Also, Ellie Goulding stabilised after it fell 1-16, and sold way over 600k! As for Christina Aguilera, just over 60k...

Yeah Ellie only fell 16-17 in her third week, Christina dropped 60% second week, from 24.3k to 9.7k. For Marina to fall by less than that she'd need to sell 8.5k this week, 1.1k higher than the #13 sold last week, can't see it...

Or radio and music channels can extend their playlists to more than 10 songs.

Agreed. I do feel music is controlled sometimes....especially in a commercial sense. That Plan B song has not been played at all! I am starting to think as it's critising our incompetent government....it's forbidden to be played on commercial radio.

I mean the charts are in a sorry state.....Jason Mraz's douche-bag with guitar image with public domain songs, and all these club bangers. Thankfully the album chart is in ship-shape form.

Have you got the sales of Keane's last 4 albums please ( i thought their latest was their 3rd album ) cant believe they have released 5.

Under the Iron Sea – 835,100 (end of 2007)

Perfect Symmetry – 351,272 (w/c 09/05/10)

Night Train – 76,500 (end of 2010)

Hopes & Fears sales were given earlier this year, I think, but I can't find it. It's done way over 2 million, though!

The only way to allow the charts have fresh songs is basically disqualify songs after a certain amount of weeks. Or have a panel of the OCC which "vetos" the songs.

On one of the OCC's charts they disqualify songs after 20 weeks of charting.

I don't think they should do that for the official chart though. But it's a shame a radio station like Radio 1 has to play this every week.
