Oh, and ARGH at Steps not taking the number 1 off Rui Da Silva (despite loving both songs!) :(

Blimey - I would have put money on Wetflies keeping Uptown Girl as a #1!

Me too. And quite surprisingly, "My love" was kept at #1.

HEAR'SAY- THE WAY TO YOUR LOVE- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

I can only guess this one is gonna make a certain Jester very angry indeed. No one can doubt that "Pure and Simple" was a massive seller and wouldn't get demoted under any system, not so its follow up "The Way To Your Love". It's swift descent down the charts 1-5-13 tells you how much it sunk into the popular consciousness back in July 2001 and on this chart it can't get past "Lady Marmalade".

DJ OTZI- HEY BABY- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Although it gets demoted here, it does still spent 3 weeks at No 2 behind Kylie who debuts straight at NO 1 here thanks to a first week sale of 306k. Positively evil record and I for one am glad at its demotion here.

BLUE- IF YOU COME BACK- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Proving what a stable year 2001 was only 9 tracks gets demoted, showing that what topped the charts were genuinely the biggest of the time. In November though the turnover started to replicate that of 2000 and as a consequence something has to give and in this run it's Blue, its thrid week fall 2-8 proves to be the fatal blow to its chances to keep the prize adn surrenders to those Sclubbers.

Wow at S Club 7 managing to keep all their no.1s. I thought they'd lose one somewhere.
BLESS YOU KYLIE for removing the hideous Hey Baby. So many awful novelty tracks reached #1 back then.

 Indeed it would - but wholly expected given it's poor sales and chart run. Roger Sanchez still made it, so I will let you off!

Not even Michael Jackson could beat Kylie under this system either. I want to find a database where sales figures are shown for each week.

Wouldn't we all?! :D

To be fair there weren''t that many massive no.2s in 2001. The only one I can think of is Wheatus but the songs that held it off really were massive. That's why I liked 2001-everything was justified.

I presume you're planning a break-in of the OCC offices then?

What a dull year in 2001 - even I don't have much to say for a change. The Way To Your Love is brilliant though but an obvious demotion. And poor Westlife, apart from gaining a week with Against All Odds this thread has really been terrible to them (:kink:)... but March 2001 was a crazily competitive time so something had to give.

I'm not sure if 2002 will have any promotions either. Shakira was the biggest song not to reach #1 that year but she was behind Will Young obviously so has no chance of reaching #1 under this system. And Scooter was behind two big #1s so I think we're safe from that as well mercifully.

Maybe Get The Party Started could move up? Depends how close it was at #2 behind George Harrison as it overtook the week after.

Surprised that DJ Pied Piper wasn't demosed. It was the Bound 4 Da Reload of 2001 IMHO, i.e., a very random and uneventful #1.

AALIYAH- MORE THAN A WOMAN- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d3/Aaliyah-morethanawoman.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 5

Poor Aaliyah, even post death she gets stripped of her sole UK Chart topper. It's not like it even managed to make the top 3, it gets demoted all the way to No 5, its first week sale of 32k was hardly going to keep it at the top for long and a decent of 1-5-12 always spells disaster.

I love More Than a Woman! Sad times :(. But if it means A1's 'Caught In The Middle' rises to the top then I won't be complaining

WESTLIFE- A WORLD OF OUR OWN- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2a/WorldOfOurOwnCD11.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

You saw this one coming surely? Debuting at No 1 the week before Will Young's impressive 1.1 opening week was NEVER going to allow you to keep your No 1 hit on this thread, the fact that it couldn't even beat Shakira is probably a true reflection of what was going on chart wise in March 2002, it's the fifth Westlife chart topper to come a cropper showing just how much they relied on quite weeks and frontloaded sales appealing to fanbase only in their seach for chart toppers.
