considering that it was winning the poll that she posted on her website, it would appear that this is. :( I like it, but it's my least favourite of the four options from the poll.
ah what is she doing releasing this crap. I want whip it or automatic
I suspect this will be to bridge the similarities from 'Whip It'/'Automatic' coming so soon after 'Starships'. Much like the Rihanna 'We Found Love'-'Where Have You Been' gap. Only, 'Marilyn Monroe' will be more successful than either 'You Da One' or 'Talk That Talk' were I'd assume. I'd much prefer 'Young Forever' (as you all know by now) but I can see why this was the most popular choice.
I would have preferred Young Forever but MM was a close second, will be a big-ish hit (might get her more fans who usually don't like her) before Pound The Alarm or Whip It smash later in the campaign.
I agree, Right By My Side seems to be underperforming. I have no idea why that was even single 2 tbh.
Yes, Marilyn Manroe, my fave Nicki song quite possibly!
'Right By My Side' wasn't a proper single, was it? I was always under the impression it was used just to keep the album selling/for everyone/radio/tv to listen to that and play that instead of 'Starships' to prevent them from getting completely bored with the latter whilst they were still making a solid and definite choice for 2nd single.

Most rappers release videos for album tracks that aren't singles, so it's probably just that. Although it got sent to urban radio in the US too, so it counts as a single there.

Right By My Side is actually doing very well imo, considering it's just a music video. I think with radio airplay it could've been a top 10 hit in the UK, especially since it's a grower for most people.

Right By My Side has grown on me so much now, but I'm still kind of glad it's not an official single.

Marilyn Monroe is the best choice from those 4, so I'm happy it's a single, when I played the pop side of the album to my friend who doesn't like Nicki, she said she loved Marilyn Monroe - and she's a sort of 'The Vaccines' type indie fan. So, this is a good choice.

Right By My Side was just a US urban radio single AFAIK, they made a video for artistic purposes I presume (she maybe just wanted to make one, or it was planned as a single, idk). It wasn't officially 'sent to radio' here or given a single release, it was just sent to urban stations in the US (possibly because Starships was too pop for them to play, a bit like Rihanna with California King Bed/Man Down, Only Girl/What's My Name? - though obviously WMN was an actual single soon after - and S&M/Raining Men).

So Marilyn Monroe will be the 'proper' 2nd single, I can see them going for something else in the US tbh.

RBMS was a proper single, it got released to rhytmic and urban stations, it just flopped. I cant stand Marilyn Monroe, Va Va Voom needs to be released!
Pound the Alarm has been added to irish radio stations while right by my side is doing the rounds on the music channels. This just reminds me of Rihanna Rated R era

Meh, decent enough choice. I loved it when I first heard it but I'm kind of bored of it by now. I would've preffered 'Pound The Alarm', 'Young Forever', 'Whip It', or 'Automatic' but this'll do. It'll go Top 20 at worst (in the UK anyway).

Oh and that cover art is seriously VILE. Please say it's not official!

That Artwork looks like it was made on Instagram (an iPhone app), but ro release Pound the alarm straight after Starships is too much in my opinion it sounds the same, Marilyn Monroe could be a decent choice, i see it getting into the top 20.
Marilyn Monroe is quite disappointing single choice tbh, I doubt it will go top 10 in the Uk tbh.

No, it hasn't flopped. She didn't send it to pop radio, and it was "released" at the same time as Starships was still popular and being promoted. Everybody knew it wasn't going to do well, and I don't think she or her label expected it to. Starships would've flopped aswell in that situation.

Seriously, it's completely normal for hip hop artists to send album tracks to urban radio and/or make music videos or remixes to them. They don't do like pop artists such Katy Perry and Lady Gaga do with one song at a time, every 3 months, everything choreographed perfectly, etc.
