June 1, 201213 yr Midweek Charts update: Queen's Diamond Jubilee album eyeing chart throne Source: 14:43 | Friday June 1, 2012 By Paul Williams Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band’s Diamond Jubilee album Sing is gaining ground on Paloma Faith’s Fall To Grace in the battle to top the UK artist albums chart this Sunday. At the beginning of the week Faith’s newly-issued RCA album was around 40% ahead in sales of Decca’s Sing release, but by the close of business on Thursday this lead had narrowed to just 8%, according to the Official Charts Company. Behind the two biggest albums at this stage of the week are four other brand new releases with Atlantic act Rumer’s Boys Don’t Cry third, Polydor’s Scissor Sisters album Magic Hour fourth, Sony Classical act Russell Watson fifth with Anthems and the Parlophone-issued Valtari by Sigur Ros sixth. The high number of new entries at the top end of the market has pushed down last week’s number one, Our Version Of Events by Virgin’s Emeli Sande, to seventh position in the week so far, while XL’s Adele album 21 could drop to its lowest place yet on the chart as it currently occupies 10th spot. The Asylum/Black Butter-issued Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman is around 20,000 sales ahead of Warner Bros’s Eurovision winner Loreen with Euphoria on the midweek singles chart. Last Sunday’s number one, Atlantic/Fueled By Ramen’s We Are Young by Fun featuring Janelle Monae, is around 1,000 sales behind Euphoria in third place, while Polydor act Lawson’s debut single When She Was Mine is showing up as a new entry at four and Def Jam/Mercury’s Rihanna climbs 6-5 with Where Have You Been. ============================== Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Rudimental/John Newman (20k ahead) 2 Loreen 3 fun./Janelle Monae (1k behind) 4 Lawson 5 Rihanna 6-10 11-20 12 Gary Barlow Coldplay & Rihanna Sebastian Ingrosso 21-30 21 Pitbull Azealia Banks 28 Alexandra Burke Justin Bieber [DIYA] 30 Kylie MInogue 31-40 35 Wretch 32/Ed Sheeran ============================== Albums 1 Paloma Faith 2 Gary Barlow 3 Rumer 4 Scissor Sisters 5 Russell Watson 6-10 6 Sigur Ros 9 Rihanna [TAT] 11-20 Coldplay [MX] Meolody Gardot Alt-J Ultravox 19 Regina Spektor 21-30 Alex Clare Architects 31-40 32 One Direction Laura Wright ============================== Mini Artist Update Singles Carly Rae Jepsen 5+1 Rita Ora/Tinie 5+3 The Wanted 5+4 Paloma 10+1 Tulisa 10+3 Nicki Minaj 10+6 Jessie J/David G 20+3 The Saturdays 30+2 Marina & The Diamonds 30+6 Albums Adele [21] 5+5 Lana Del Rey 20+1 Jessie J 20+4 Nicki Minaj 20+6 Olly Murs 30+5 Rebecca Ferguson 30+6
June 1, 201213 yr Keeping everything crossed for Loreen to remain at #2, and Paloma to hold on to #1. Kylie likely to fall from her peak of #31. :(
June 1, 201213 yr That's quite a big drop for Rebecca Ferguson in the album chart. Wasn't she like, #6 a few weeks ago?
June 1, 201213 yr Loreen still #2, definitely going to be #3 at worst! Maybe Loreen was selling a lot better than I anticipated whilst she was at #1 on iTunes. fun. sold 70k last week, and Loreen was 20% ahead of fun. for a good 18 hours. Maybe 'Euphoria' is looking at 60-70k sales this week? :D Kylie likely to fall from her peak of #31. :( That'd be quite shocking. #31 with about 18 hours of sales, yet drop with a full week of sales. Especially if it turns out that 'Timebomb' sold less in its first full week than it sold in its first 18 hours. Whether 'Timebomb' recovers and actualy manages to repeak in a few weeks is left to be seen.
June 1, 201213 yr It is looking good for Gary Barlow to get top 10 in both the album and singles chart on sunday.
June 1, 201213 yr I get the feeling Paloma will end up at No.2 on Sunday. Also looks like Scissor Sisters will be no lower than #5, was kinda hoping for more.
June 1, 201213 yr Gary Balow is in with a shout of stealing the number 1 from Paloma, while i would prefer Gary to go number 1 either act is a great number 1 and likewise with the Scissor Sisters.
June 1, 201213 yr When GMAYL by Madonna was released people were laughing at me when I said the next Kylie single will struggle to do much better and look what's happening.. I adore the song but these kind of icons of older generation just don't sell digital singles any more, especially with OA/OS strategy. Shame Scissor Sisters couldn't stay in top 3 Edited June 1, 201213 yr by SKOB
June 1, 201213 yr Poor Alexandra Burke. I don't understand how Elephant can hit No.3 with limited airplay, but Let It Go won't make the top 30 on Sunday. The only promo she has done is Loose Women. Hopefully she's keeping all the promo for the album release next week.
June 1, 201213 yr Adele at risk of dropping out of the top ten! :o Not at all - she wasn't top 10 in the Wednesday update and has climbed back inside, she's only going to go up even more in the last couple of days so the worst possible result will be a new all-time low position of #10. She could be at risk of dropping out next week if there are this many somewhat significant releases though. It'd be annoying as that would mean she drops out one week short of matching the 21st century record for top 10 weeks by a single album (72 of The Fame - Back To Black has 73 but split over the original, the deluxe and a 'Frank & Back To Black' double album). She'd no doubt re-enter in the future to beat that record anyway but it'd be more impressive if she did it all consecutively from the week of release, so to be cut just short of achieving that... -x- Anyway, I won't do a big rambling commentary about the mids this week (as I would have done had the site actually been working on Wednesday :P) but I'll just say a big woo at Rudimental looking set for #1 and YES at Sigur Rós still holding #6 for now, after 'Inni' missed the top 40 I was worried that 'Valtari' would bomb but it should definitely stay top 10 now. Gorgeous album. I'd like to see the top 6 albums remain as they are for the oddity of having an all-new top 6. Preferably with Sigur Rós taking Russell Watson's place in the top 5 to match the peak of MSÍEVSA but that obviously won't happen :P And also preferably without Gary taking Paloma's #1 but that's probably going to happen unfortunately. And finally, woo for Alexandra bombing, I knew I wasn't being dumb when I suggested it could become her lowest peaking single! It's had practically no support whatsoever and is a very weak song.
June 1, 201213 yr And so Rudmential will go to No.1. I don't like it though, worst no.1 this year. Would have loved Loreen to go on Top!
