Yeah, but the list of previous entries is listed alphabetically on artist, so it would have been hard to pick out one song title from all of those previous entries.

I used to use Control F when I had a PC for the song name too (just in case). Actually have no idea what the shortcut is on a Mac though :(

Ooh! That's clever :kink: A little search box pops up! Thanks for letting me know about that, I never knew about that! :D

I guess Oricon may not have known about that though :(

Ryan has now discovered Pitchfork and ctrl+F on this thread - let's teach him about more things! :D

Indeed! I'm loving this Ctrl+F thing at the moment, I keep pressing it to see the box pop down :kink:

Ctrl+F is literally VITAL. I don't know how anyone can go without it for so long.

How on EARTH do you managed to use a computer for over a year and get to <however old Ryan is> without knowing Ctrl-F?!

-x-

Did not recall the anti-sample rule being there AT ALL! That's a bit of a strange one. Pretty sure that one's probably been accidentally violated without anyone noticing at some point in the last five years...

I've just been trying it out in the songs thread! It is SO useful! I can't believe I've only found out about this! :kink:

Totally didn't know about Ctrl+F. I suddenly feel as though my ICT GCSE means nothing.

!!!

!!!

I've hit it a couple of times by accident, but never used it as I thought it was a search engine toolbar, like a mini Google

On this occasion, the mods have decided to allow Daehun's entry to continue in the contest even though it's a cover of Monrose's entry in BJSC IX. We are discussing the rules regarding covers and will make a further announcement after this contest.

SF2, START* VOTING!

*continue

Oh good, I can send my votes now without fear of having to re-do them because a song's changed
Omg, much thanks for the mods allowing my song entry to continue. I shall be more careful in the future into not sending covers of previous entries! ^_^
Since when did the rule apply to samples and adaptations? So far as I'm aware that's never been the case.

I didn't think it ever did.

I don't recall the sample rule being extended to previous BJSC entries. I think we only enforce it if its a hideously uninspired and obvious sample of a very recent entry.

As for the Eurovision rule, the contest at it's roots is far too connected to ESC. Yes, I know that there is going to be a lot of things that most people won't have heard from West Germany in 1967 an the likes but our justification for keeping it is the cross over between this forum and ESC is just too large. The spirit of the contest is introducing people to new, unknown, inspired music and ESC really doesn't tick all the boxes. It's not something that we currently have any plans to really look at but I'm open to hearing an argument for removing it.

As for the covers rule, as Tom said we are discussing it. Still early days at the moment to really know where we are heading solution wise.

I'm happy because Oricon doesn't have to change his entry and we can continue the contest but on the other hand I'm very disappointed. I still think it's unfair and makes me feel that we can bend the rules for anybody or anytime we want. So they are not rules anymore. I hope I can cope with this somehow...
