On July 12, 2012, Tyler announced that he would be leaving American Idol after two seasons, released a statement saying, "After some long ... hard ... thoughts ... I've decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress 'American Idol' before she boils my rabbit.

Jennifer Lopez has also quit stating "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do that I've put kind of on hold," she said on Friday.

Lopez spent two seasons as a judge on the US talent search, whose viewing figures have slumped in recent years.

The programme's 12th season is due to commence in the autumn.

"I just don't feel like I can be there every single day all the time like I have been for the past two years," Lopez said in a phone call to Idol host Ryan Seacrest's radio show.

The 42-year-old had earlier said it would be "hard" to continue on the show without Tyler on the judging panel.

Jennifer Lopez was most definitely the most interesting judge on all levels. I'm gonna miss her but I wish her luck with her other projects. Steven Tyler was always just like "That was beautiful babe", pretty dull...

Bring back Ellen!

I absolutely loved both JLo and Steven as judges, by far the best American Idol line-up for me. The chemistry between the 3 was great. I'm not a huge Randy fan generally though. I think they should get a whole new line-up or get 3 new people + Randy
Although it's still pulling in impressive figures (it absolutely smashed the X-Factor in ratings last year), it's probably time to lay it to rest. Although the last two seasons have been the best from the entire AI series, the outright winners have been horrendous.

Mariah Carey has basically conmfirmed herself:

Mariah Carey @MariahCarey

It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! --MC

Mariah is a fantastic addition, wonder who else they'll grab

There are SO many rumours of who will take the second slot

I've heard all of:

Alanis Morissette

Brad Paisley

Pharrell Williams

P Diddy

Nick Jonas

Adam Lambert

Hayley Williams

Miley Cyrus (I think she said she's not doing it?)

Madness, it can't be all of them  I'd like to see either Brad Paisley (not because I like him but it would be nice to have a country judge) or Hayley Williams, although Alanis having performed a few times is actually likely. Knowing these rumours though it will be none of them, I'm also not sure they'd have 2 female judges and only one male.

Oh wow, I hope Alanis becomes a judge. Based on what I've seen in interviews and such, I'm sure she would have some interesting things to say on the panel.
Please let it be Alanis *.* just to see how she would get on with Mariah.
OH MY GOD I CAN'T EVEN. Demi and Britney on X-Factor was enough but this is just amazing

Nicki & Mariah >> Demi & Britney, I'm sry just has to be said. There's just the ability for so many moments with the former 2.

True, it's just that Demi and Britney are two of my top 20 singers ever (although Nicki is in front of both and Mariah is probably top 40) so I'm so excited to see them too! Mariah and Nicki are undeniably much bigger personalities though and Idol next season is sure to be amazing!

Damn, I was really looking forward to Alanis.

Edit: Wait, is there still one space left?
