The Little Mix situation has been eased by the fact that they have been playlisted on Capital, so they will be on Radio 1's list soon.

There's a demand for these songs now. I cannot understand why delaying their release is good in any way!

It strikes me as completely insane that places like Australia seem to be about 2 months ahead of the UK when it comes to music these days

Weird to see them only adding Angel now after his release, I'm pretty sure they supported 'Go In, Go Hard'? Might have only made the INMWT list though. They'll probably fully support Angel from this point onwards.

Possibly because it was brought forward at very short notice. It wasn't due until the 30th July

My suggestion for the delay was probably because the video was not ready.

The release for most lead singles is delayed in the UK so that sufficient airplay is built up pre-release to ensure a high entry. It could be linked to the video, but I'm sure No Doubt's new single isn't out until mid Septemeber here, yet has been released to other countries' iTunes already? Wasn't the video for that due this week as well?

I get that, but when the rest of the world is getting new releases available 2 MONTHS before the UK, it really is a sorry state of affairs, and a business model that is surely not sustainable. Given that the UK is supposed to be one of the leading music markets in the world.

Radio really need to start playing the game if that's what the delay is. If someone like Pink is going to be added to the R1 playlist, it should be added to the A List immediately after first radio play. I don't understand the delay.

^^ indeed thats why the maj of OA/OS releases rise and fall - if they had immediate videos and radio play they would hold up higher in the chart instead of radio losing faith in them just because of their chart run!!

Good examples of sucesses are Price tag by Jessie j and Flo rida both massive artists on mtv - coincidence - i think not!

If I was a massive artist like Rihanna or Gaga I would premiere a single mid week and release it on Sunday or delay it a week max. That way you ensure a high peak and huge sales. If Gaga released Born This Way on Sunday for example it would have been #1 AND amassed massive sales. Price Tag and We Found Love were released fairly soon after premiering and both did incredibly. When you have to wait months tho it just gets stupid!

We would have had to wait another month for We Found Love if it weren't for the fake version. ^_^ I agree, waiting 2 weeks is fine but when you have to wait 2 months (for the new P!nk and Rita Ora songs for example) it just gets too much. It's a shame that in 2012 songs still have to be held back in the UK whereas in US and Australia OA/OS works fine!

This, completely. Its getting so ridiculous how we have to keep waiting for all these massive new releases so we end up with so many completely dry weeks and then masses of held back big hits entering at one time only to fall relatively quickly despite a good peak. It just gets too much

This is the current Australian iTunes top 5. This is what the UK iTunes chart will look like in 2 months time.

1) Some Nights - Fun

2) Feel the Love - Rudimental

3) One More Night - Maroon 5

4) Blow Me- Pink

5) Good Time - Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen

Really hope Some Nights gets playlisted soon!

Other than Rudimental (as its already been a hit), that looks pretty accurate  Except I think Maroon's newbie will take a bit longer than 2 months to get top 5 (there's no way that it's gonna flop)

If a video is ready, the song and video should be premiered and released at the same time.

Are you talking about Maroon 5's song? It's already on iTunes I think. I saw it in the top 100 before already.

I would love Feel the Love to be no2 in 2 months lol!! But yeah you are exactly right - its reactionary record companies who want to protect the money making boyband groups who need massive exposure to debut high up the chart!!

No I was stating that if any song has the video ready, that should happen.

I suspect its more to do with Album release dates, they don't want to release the single weeks (or months) before the album as they fear that the single will have come and gone and the album won't benefit from the promotion (which is basically why singles are released)

Then albums should become OA/OS as well imo - look how frank ocean benefitted!

I get what you say there, but they can still aim to release an album whilst the single is getting the bulk of its promotion/momentum surely? Or like Steve said, have early release dates for albums?
