I thought the book was very original at the time it was released but it didn't strike me that the pace (and constant setting) of the majority of it would translate well into a film. Will be interesting to see what they do with it - although just watched a trailer for this and it looks almost Disney-esque which is not at ALL as I'd imagined it.
Trailer looks like a visual feast. However, I've read the book (when it was free on iTunes) and I've no idea how it will work as a film.
I saw the trailer in the cinemas the other week, and got really choked up for some reason. It looked so marvelous and wondrous. I agree that i'm not sure how the tame/slow/dreary plot of the book will transcend on the screen, but if its even half as good as the book it will a winner for me

Can't get over how amazing it was. I'm not sure what the response is from people who aren't familiar with the novel so would be interesting to hear thoughts. Critically it seems to have been extremely well received and has some pre-awards buzz around it too!

As a massive fan of the book, I felt it was perfectly realised as a film (even the bits that were left out, I could understand exactly why they were).

I definitely shed a few tears I'm the penultimate scene, and the religious/spiritual stuff came across nicely too (that's coming from an atheist!).

I'm not at all familiar with the novel but I loved it, contender for best film of the year. It had humour, sad moments but also joy. Loved the narration. It did feel a tad too long in the middle but I wouldn't say it was every boring, impressive how they can keep it so interesting given the setting. I'm interested to read the book now though and see how it comes across on page and see what was left out.
I think I need to watch this again. The more I think about the film, the more I think I actually liked it. The visual effects and the 3D is sublime, but at time of watching I wasn't impressed and was a bit bored by the story etc.. but as soon as I think back to it, I think I enjoyed it. Gonna watch it again soon anyway, so we'll see.
Ugh this isn't coming out until 1 January. A week to go

Definitely read the book. Tis just as marvelous as the film

And yes, it is 100% my favourite film released this year.

Take the new boo when its released, it will be magical!

It dragged so much, it looked pretty at times but that was about all it had going for me. :(

I've seen Pitch Perfect and The Hobbit over the last week or so, and both were much more engaging!

I REALLY liked this film. It was such a unique film - to say not a lot happens is usually a criticism, but not a lot really happens for the majority of the film and it's done so well that you don't even notice. Add onto that that it's beautiful to watch too. Going to see it was a risk as I had little idea what it was about, but I'm so pleased that I did.

Pitch Perfect YES! I even learned the cup thing routine.

Yeah the beauty of the book is precisely because very little happens (if that makes sense), but the film did well to keep me entertained for the duration.

I was dubious about the opening in India but i thought it was done incredibly well (some of my favourite moments were there) and set up the remainder very well. The ending was just divine though

wish i'd enjoyed it more than i did but maybe that's more down to high expectations. still brilliant though.

omg that was INCREDIBLE.

I cried TWO times. One time at the second storm scene and the other time when Pi

put Richard Parker's head on his lap

The ending had me going like a waterfall

I was hoping Richard Parker was secretly looking from the bushes at the end :(
