Second #1 for Ms D though out of two chart entries, one under a different name - she'd be a good call on a Pointless question about artists with more than one UK #1

What's the other?

It's a shame that Calvin Harris' music has become so generic recently. When he started out he sounded so fresh.

A lot of people agree with this, but obviously money and fame became forefront and look at him now, dominating the club scene and doing incredibly in the charts.

Is it just me or both songs that have fought for the top spot this week are unusually weak for the upper reaches?

'Oopsy Daisy', where she was credited under her real name Dayo Olatunji. It's debatable she's credited on that at all to be fair but she is on the album so I count that as a #1 for her.

Example

2009 19 Watch The Sun Come Up -1-

2010 06 Won't Go Quietly -2-

2010 03 Kickstarts -3-

2010 27 Last Ones Standing -4-

2010 29 Monster (Professor Green Feat. Example)

2011 02 Unorthodox (Wretch 32 Feat. Example)

2011 01 Changed The Way You Kiss Me -1-

2011 01 Stay Awake -2-

2011 37 Natural Disater (Laidback Luke Vs. Example) -3-

2011 30 Midnight Run -4-

2012 02 We'll Be Coming Back (Calvin Harris Feat. Example)[/size]

You've forgotten #39 Daydreamer (Flux Pavillion feat. Example) :P

Anyway, what a great top four! (a real shame that Karmin can't break the top five) And I am very disapointed about Underworld missing the top 10 :(

Out of the top 40, ones I really like:

#04. Maroon 5 - Payphone

#15. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

#27. Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)

#36. Paloma Faith - Picking Up The Pieces

I wouldn't say unusually, there have been tons of 'weak' songs in the upper echelons this year. It even happens every year.

Maybe not tons but there indeed are some every year, more and more with each year unfortunately.

2012 number 1's that didn't sound like number 1 material are for me: Will I Am, Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Chris Brown and now Wiley. Heatwave isn't as bad as the other mentioned though.

2011 was probably worse than 2012 in that respect. Most people seem to quite like the #1s this year (in general), but I remember back last year it seemed like every week in the iTunes thread there was a "This is the worst #1 of all-time" meltdown.

I would say rita ora is one of the breakthroughs of the year in terms of pop artists, could be on for her 3rd no1 of the year with her single next week!
