Well not quite. The Shamen were, at the time, a highly credible dance act with EG being a cheeky little number referencing recreational drug use of the day. It was the chorus that caused complaints to Radio One and TOTP and if memory serves an edited version was shown initially but both ended up playing the proper version having learnt the lessons of "Relax". The comparison to Sam and the Woop isn't therefore quite accurate IMHO.

The most recent #1 with a drug reference was almost 2 years ago now (What's My Name?).

I just noticed Ne-Yo has 3 songs in the top 10 atm. :drama: King of pop tbh.

Top 20 rather ;)

Top 20 rather ;)

I was going to say, haha. I'd definitely say he was one of the more successful male artists in recent years. Obviously Justin Bieber has had more/as much success, but at 18 it's hard to call him the 'King of Pop'. Ne-Yo's biggest competitor for the crown is Usher, but 'Climax' and 'Scream' were very short-lived hits, whilst third single 'Dive' seems to be doing nothing.

^ Dive isn't Usher's 3rd single, it's just an album track. His next single is going to be Numb.

Climax did really well, since it's not a formulaic song made to be a chart hit. Scream's success was very disappointing, because it actually IS a formulaic song made to be a chart hit, yet it wasn't a massive hit like Yeah!, Love in This Club and OMG were.

I agree, Justin Bieber, and also Drake, are much more popular than the both of them atm, but they're not in the charts very much really.

PSY up to 0.85. Only a matter of hours for him to make up the last bit!

Why is 'As Long As You Love Me' suddenly heading back for the top 20? Could still re-peak yet, showing some great legs.

Surprised at how well Jessica Wright is holding up too (still #34), she should definitely go top 40 then which would be kind of her second top 40 hit after the TOWIE cast's version of 'Last Christmas'.

I really am rooting for PSY to grab a week at no. 1 next week as it's gaining popularity (Gotye style). Then there's the possibility of the track returning to no. 1 in October. *.*

On what do you base that?

Probably the fact that it is an enduring world wide hit, similar to Fun which just missed out on #1 initially but crept back up over a long period of time, a hit which conveniently you also "wrote off" minutes into its chart run.

Oh Eric!

I do hope 'Good Time' can find its way back into the top 10, I wanted that to SMASH.

I do hope Eric has a Good Time in his bedroom :o

Lana Del Rey - Blue Velvet now at no 90

Also, the new iphone software means that the iTunes chart on the iPhone goes past no 100 now.

Ah, so we have two of these new covers of old songs foradverts by popular female artists this week :P Paloma's 'Never Tear Us Apart' is 'down' to #95 but I'm almost certain it shouldn't be on the feed at all, it's still listed as a pre-order for Saturday.

100. So Wonderful - Emilia Mitiku

That name seems vaguely familiar, does she have anything to do with Eurovision or something?

She's tried to represent Sweden in the past but hasn't made it to the actual contest.

The One Direction that was meant to premiere on Monday has now leaked.

Bloody hell, I only just realised that it's the same Emilia that went to #5 with Big Big World in 1999 :o Must check this out!

I think it might be the same Emilia who had a hit with 'Big Big World' back in the 90s. She did enter a song for Eurovision representing Sweden, but it wasn't successful in getting through.

Justin was on Daybreak this morning so I assume that's why ALAYLM has climbed; didn't think it had any effect really but clearly so :P

OK I got it wrong by calling Tulisa a flop. To be totally honest, it's still one of the highest charting urban tracks of the year. The only other ones I can recall is Rita's R.I.P and Nicki Minaj's low charting Right By Your Side.

can we count that as a formal announcement that your obsession with her is over?

33. Set This World On Fire - The Janoskians

What a bizarre band name (after Googling it I see it's an acronym but still quite odd). I take it from their Wiki article that they're like an Australian version of The Midnight Beast/The Lonely Island?

I was wondering when that'd come back to bite me in the ass...

However, at this time of year there's too much competition from new releases to make a #1 return (assuming it even makes it in the frst place) a relaistic possibility.

Yet again she releases the 'wrong' single...

Just gave it a listen. Not too bad but very annoying.
