GOOOR SHOREH IS YER BURFDEE
I'm fairly sure Dan was joking, but however she meant it, using the word "gay" to mean rubbish or useless is homophobic.

No it does not. Let's just remind ourselves that 'homophobic' is defined as hating gay people. I'm pretty sure Amelia doesn't hate gay people. The way she used the word is a turn of phrase, simple as.

The Script taking over from Amelia is the most relieving midweek turnover for a while! Brilliant to see The Script getting a #1, would have preferred their #1 to be 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' but 'Hall Of Fame' is brilliant as well.

No it does not. Let's just remind ourselves that 'homophobic' is defined as hating gay people. I'm pretty sure Amelia doesn't hate gay people. The way she used the word is a turn of phrase, simple as.

Actually it is. For a gay person, the turn of phrase is a lazy childish slur. It equates the word gay to being wrong and bad.

That is not the strict definition, it covers a very broad range of things. Have a look at the Stonewall website for more info.

I like both YBMJ and HOF.... however YBWJ I was majorly into around a month ago... HOF is currently my Personal Chart Number 1.

Also Good to see HOF not to a Moves Like Jagger (the comparisons due to the Voice :))

Interesting #1, nice to see The Script get one I guess and it's a decent song. You Bring Me Joy is good too but got boring incredibly quickly for me, it's essentially a Girls Aloud album track.
She could have meant 'gay' as in charming - lots do

She could have, but that wasn't the context.

The origin of the term "gay" (in a non-homosexual sense) is homophobic but, I agree, Amelia was just being ignorant and stupid. She should know better but it's ridiculous to call her homophobic when she got on so well with Marcus last year.

Amelia obviously isn't homophobic, she just used an unfortunately widely used phrase with the young people of today that could be offensive, but she is only a 17 year girl, I think people jumping on her calling her a 'homophobe' and a 'horrible person' is very over-dramatic to say the least.

Funnily enough, she did record the track whilst Girls Aloud were recording in the next room!

I agree, it was a stupid slip of the tongue. She should be more careful what she says on the radio!

So so happy for Amelia!! #2 is absolutely brilliant, and she must've been close to #1 too! :cheer:

Jeez, drop it already.

Pretty good top 3 in my opinion. Really like 'You Bring Me Joy', but I'm a big fan of 'Hall of Fame' too - so it doesn't/didn't bother me which one claimed the pole position. Will.i.am on to his second #1 of 2012 though, seems like his role on The Voice UK hasn't been a waste of time.

Girls Aloud osmosis

The Script is one of those bands who just left me unamazed and underwhelmed. Their only song that I really like is "Before The Worst", and I don't mind TMWCBM that much, but the rest is quite blah for me.
Gay in the 1950's and 1960's meant "Happy".

Yes! Funny how meanings for words change over the years.

In all fairness to her, she's got a shit PR team. You should read some of her quotes from articles on Digital Spy. No media training whatsoever.
