EDIT: Just checked about Born This Way, the song was originally supposed to be premiered on February 13th at the Grammy Awards, and released immediately after. Instead its premiere and release both got pulled forward to February 11th.

No, it had nothing to do with a leak. The single actually did not leak. The release was brought forward due to Gaga's wish to coincide with McQueen's death anniversary. The release date change was actually announced a few weeks prior.

Some songs that DID leak and were released earlier on iTunes US: P!nk's Blow Me; Taylor Swift's Mine; Katy Perry's California Gurls; Ke$ha's Die Young... in fact, most singles leak and then are released immediately to iTunes. I guess the only reason 1D didn't do that is because their management is British tbh.

The only lead singles by A-listers which did not leak that I can think of was Taylor's WANEGBT; Gaga's Born this Way and Rihanna's WFL/Diamonds.

People seem to point to OA/OS flops in the UK as to why it doesn't work. People like Nicola Roberts probably would have flopped anyway, even if the release was held back. A hit song is going to be a hit song regardless of when it is released. Price Tag, Born This Way etc were massive and OA/OS.

Price Tag premiered on the radio in 2010, so I wouldn't say that's on air, on sale, since it was released in February 2011 iirc.

But 2011 did have lots of hits like that, such as Born This Way, Give Me Everything, Sweat and Party Rock Anthem, and post-album songs like Beautiful People, Someone Like You, S&M and The Lazy Song. US-based artists seem to have an easier time of it.

I think releases should co-incide with the music video release, because that allows a little bit of hype but nothing ridiculous. I think Price Tag's was done like that.
I think it's better to hold back the music video tbh, like they're currently doing with I Cry.

Agreed, as long as it's done within reason. Britney's 'Hold It Against Me' had its video held back so long that the song was dead by the time it dropped, but I'd say Taylor's WANEGBT has had a pretty perfectly timed video release.

How did Lucy Spraggan get another track in the top 100, and what is it? That's not one she has sung on the show. I thought all the acts had to remove any music they had on iTunes, or did I pick that up wrong?

It's from a compilation album called 'Local Talent', where it is of course selling far, far more than anything else :P She only had to take down her album and singles, compilation tracks are exempt I suppose? It may get taken down later.

Quite impressive that from a couple of XF performances alone she's garnered enough interest for people to download a song she didn't even perform just because it's her only available song. The two fakes are still at #43 (TAT) and #64 (LN(BF)).

Unrelated: Muse back up to #99 with 'Survival', not holding up too horrifically badly then (kind of reminds me of 'ill Manors', incidentally currently #422, #429 and #533 so probably still top 200 combined). Would like to see it return for a third run in the top 100 with the album release next week. ('Madness' is at #22 so should definitely re-peak next week and maybe go top 20 next week? Great decision by them to make it 59p).

Unrelated to the previous unrelated: yay for David Guetta FINALLY getting a decent foothold on the top 10 :D This can't peak at #11.

What? if that was the case it would be at number 1 right now instead of that crap PSY song.

He means far more than anything else on the compilation album. Not far more than anything else in EXISTANCE.

Well I can't wait for PSY to be kicked off iTunes number 1 on Sunday. His parents should be ashamed of themselves for bringing such an annoying twat into the world.

lol. He's not annoying!!! :o It's not his fault his dance moves are so legendary.

You should move to the US, Taylor Swift has already kicked him off #1 on iTunes there, and Maroon 5 look like they'll hold him off #1 on the Hot 100.
