It does seem that more often than not, though, that radio stations have a reason for playing non-single songs.

I think the most random song that a radio station has chosen to play is ABBA's The Day Before You Came which I heard once! :P

That's not random, that's AMAZING.

I'm using Rihanna's song as an example now, Why are song always held back in the UK everytime? is the the labels decision or iTunes, if its the labels why do they do it here and not in other countries as much??

115. Something Good - Alt-J

Would be amazing if this could sneak a top 100 place at some point (like Tessellate deserved to!)

Damn @ Some Nights down to #10, was hoping for a new peak, but that might not happen if it keeps dropping :(

Because releasing songs as soon as they were premièred would be like trying to enforce communism into the charts.

It wouldn't work unless every song that was released before the rule was enforced was never available to download again and it could be potentially dangerous to new acts who have not had time to promote their song or build up hype.

How would it in any way be like communism?

I don't think there usually is a reason for most of them, apart from maybe the DJs/Radio station want to play the song, or maybe people requested it.

Communism doesn't work unless everyone who is rich dies so that everyone starts on the same level, which refers to the first point I made.

I just don't see how a completely OA/OS system would work against smaller acts any more than the current one does, especially as most small acts don't bother holding back their releases.

Sadly Andy Williams has died at the age of 84 I wonder his memorable hits will chart later on iTunes, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Happy Heart and Music To Watch Girls Go By (as for the young, ask your mum) :P
Any Williams has just passed away :(

Andy.

I would guess the chart boost for him will be much stronger for albums, than singles.

Has Ke$ha "Die Young" been released in the UK yet?

Not until November 25th apparently -_-

Whose Andy Williams?

R.I.P by the way

Not really. The UK charts work completely differently to everywhere else in the world. We've always known this...

But they don't have to, if all artists/labels followed the same tactic, the chart would adapt.

Then again this has been discussed to death ha
