Didn't Call Me Maybe take like ages to get to #1 though, and that had loads of hype around it and ended up selling over 100k for almost four weeks.

Yes but there is only half of the hype in which Call Me Maybe got and seeing this is a boygroup song, it'll be incredibly frontloaded unlike Carly.

The thing with 'Call Me Maybe' is that its UK release was brought forward as there was clear demand for the track. Three weeks selling over 100k and increasing in sales in that period is an achievement that shouldn't be overlooked. I still think 'How We Do (Party)' would've done the same had it been released about a month earlier but thankfully it wasn't and it provided the UK with a far greater no. 1 in 'Spectrum (Say My Name)' instead. :D
They really took their time to get number 1! Their sales should still be over 100k thanks to pre-order, but I somehow doubt they'll beat Cheryl's first week sales now.
I can see Rihanna having a similar chart run to Only Girl (In The World) with this one. Although even though she's getting beaten now I can see it being alot closer come the weekend.
No Doubt didnt get much of a boost being on JR last night did they?

The Kworb update!!!!!

1D - 1.0000

Rihanna - 0.9875

Maybe there is hope for Diamonds this week after all.

Omg at Rihanna. This is VERY unexpected and I wouldn't be surprised if Rihanna manages to sell more than 1D this week due to longevity.
PSY has gone to No.1 offically.

Yes honey it has indeed. Thank you very enlighting us with that news. ^_^

Even if Rihanna overtakes on iTunes, as long as 1D aren't far behind they'll still be #1 due to physicals and EP sales.

We have the chart thread for this. This is the iTunes thread.

Really hope Rihanna goes to #01, especially seeing as One Direction has been so hyped up ... the fangirls on Twitter's breakdowns would be hilarious too ha. Oh and 'Diamonds' is stunning as well.
Come on Rihanna! Please, please go #1 and knock off the awful LWWY (which is just an awful re-hash of What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing)!

Basically this.

I do actually quite like Live While We're Young though to be fair, even if it's just a blatant re-hash of One Thing and What Makes You Beautiful. It's just Diamonds is brilliant and Rihanna never fails to impress me with how much power she has in the charts, this being no exception. I thought 1D were 100% a certain #1 but Rihanna is giving them a run for their money with a song that only premiered a few days ago!

I don't think anyone expected Rihanna to be this close though.

It seems likely that if Diamonds takes the lead after only 20 hours, her gap will only get bigger throughout the week. She could well bridge that gap :w00t:

Diamonds is great (prob the best Rihanna track since What's My Name imo) so I would be well chuffed if she beat Wun-Dee.

I don't think they'll mind that much, since most of them probably love Rihanna too.

One Direction could have this week:

#1 selling EP

#1 selling CD

#1 selling track on iTunes

I think they've probably got CD and EP in the bag. Maybe not iTunes, if Rihanna is already so close.
