What has been going on recently with Viktor Orbans leadership in Hungary is likely worse and more divisive than.anything Trump.will be able to do.

?!

He's pledged to deport three million people and has said he will end the acceptance of Syrian refugees. He's going way past 'let's have a referendum on not accepting immigrants' on day one alone.

The three million he says are those illegal immigrants with criminal records. I dont see the problem with deporting convicted murderers/rapists/paedophiles who pose a harm to public safety but I am doubtful that all 3million would be convicted murderers, rapists or paedophiles so I am sure some will be unjustly imo deported.

The bigger problem I have with Trump is the non acceptance of Syrian refugees.

And therein lies the rub.

3 million convicted rapists and murderers in the USA in TOTAL would be an absolute shocker, never mind singling out one single ethnic group.

For the sake of argument, assume they find 10% of that number - 300,000 convicted criminals not currently in jail (or currently in jail) - I look forward to scenes at various US/Mexico borders where the US authorities drop off people with no papers into Mexico, and Mexican authorities refuse to have them without paperwork.

What the US gonna do? Invade Mexico? airdrop them in?

There's a great photo going round of Michelle Obama holding up a sign saying "An Immigrant Took My Job".

It's funny cos it's true.....

Well there is one murder a day in New York alone....

I doubt there are 3 million illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes though. Anyway Trump should be forced to publish the criminal records of everyone who he deports.

After time to reflect, here are some thoughts.

There are still a lot of people (including some women) who simply do not like (or trust) smart women. Hillary Clinton is clearly very intelligent, and some people hold that against her. Michelle Obama could face the same problem.

For a male candidate, personal warmth (as demonstrated by Bill Clinton and Barack Obama) is considered something of a bonus. For a woman, it is almost expected. Therefore, a female candidate who fails to demonstrate that warmth is at a disadvantage.

A study of the television coverage of the campaign showed that the main networks devoted more time to the issue of Clinton's emails than to all policy discussion combined. That doesn't exactly help. It will certainly have made it more difficult to expose the total lack of firm policies from Trump.

The issue of the Electoral College was much discussed after the Florida fiasco in 2000. It should first be stated that it is the system and both candidates entered the race knowing that. It was designed to prevent candidates retrying to pile up votes in highly-populated states (such as California in Clinton's case) while ignoring the smaller states. Unfortunately, now there is an equivalent problem whereby both candidates concentrate on the relatively small number of swing states. Trump won several of those by fairly small margins, thereby giving him victory. Does anyone know how frequently they adjust the number of votes per state?

Some interesting and some wacky US betting odds.

Odds of Trump being re-elected in 2020 2/1. Him NOT being re-elected 4/6.

You can get 16/1 for Hillary to face Trump again in 2020. Can't see many takers for that. She won't stand again.

Oh 50/1 that Trump and Farage will have a No.1 UK hit single before 2020.

Trump to complete full first term 1/3

Trump to be impeached before 2020 is 2/1

Pence to be elected President in 2024 is 3/1

Apparently bookies refusing to take any bets on when/if Trump may be assassinated despite having many enquiries.

Who the hell is giving that as a bet?

Someone on DS has according to them won 260k as they put 5k on Trump to be next President when he just announced he would stand, at 55/1

Going off topic but Rainbow George (neighbour and good friend of Peter Cook) once made a bet that alien space ships would appear at the closing ceremony of the Olympic games in China at 3000/1.

Not only were the bookies a little cruel in entertaining this bet in the first place, those odds are remarkably short... Leicester were 5000/1 to win the Premiership for instance, and not only that... if aliens had landed and set about destroying the planet they aren't going to save the branches of Ladbrokes so that George can cash-in his betting slip for predicting this bizarre set of events.

Every 10 years, following the completion of the Census. However, the adjustments from the 2020 Census won't be done in time for the 2020 election.

songs Trump & Farage could cover:

I'm With Stupid

It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

Eve Of Destruction

and of course that old Hollywood musical Fred Astaire & Judy Garland classic:

We're a Couple Of Nazi-Loving Hate-spreading Millionaire Swells.
