Well i haven't heard much about it thus far, but i'm pretty sure the list is usually announced in about a month's time? Does anyone even care anymore? Regardless, here's some names that might have a good chance of making the longlist:

The 1975

AlunaGeorge

Bastille

Charli XCX

Haim

Kodaline

Laura Mvula

The Neighbourhood

Nina Nesbitt

Peace

Theme Park

As for some lesser-known ones, Brolin, Kilo Kish and Seasfire (and maybe Paper Crows? Might be too much to hope for :() have all been getting a bit of attention. Any other suggestions?

A*M*E, possibly? She strikes me as having a good chance and in a good position to benefit.

Purity Ring is the only other name that's springing to mind right now although they seem a bit left-of-field and already have their album out, I can't remember if I predicted last year and it would have been wrong if I did though.

Bastille are only just eligible by the narrowest of margins, aren't they? I just can't see them getting a nod regardless, but who knows?

I do hope we get a good/successful winner this time round.

I'm going to be rooting for FLORRIE for the third year in a row. This is her last chance.

FOXES?

YES AND YES.

Also Ms Mr - although that's gonna be one hell of a long shot.

I very much doubt it, much as I would love it. Not that anything's going to come of her MAJOR LABEL DEBUT anyway.

Can we just make a list of the best recent BJSC acts and force the BBC to publish said list?
i seriously am convinced foxes will be this years big winner. she has had incredible amounts of exposure with 'echo' - i have seen it EVERYWHERE online

Was it Michael Kiwanuka who won it this year? Oh dear, that hasn't gone all that well has it :( this list really seems to be losing its relevance.

could Churches be a contender for the shortlist at least? I heard them on XFM last night

I think it is. The last time it really felt like they had an impact was with Ellie Goulding. Jessie already had a hit on her hands when she won so she's never associated with her win and obviously the less said about Michael the better. This year they really need a commercial and critically succesful winner that isn't already you know, getting a hit.

The list in the first post looks pretty spot-on to me. Bastille must be an early favourite.

Would love to see Seasfire getting a nomination.

Bastille are definitely big contenders, almost a lock for the top five i'd say

Infact, what about Gabrielle Aplin? She's brought out a few EPs already, could manage a breakthrough if she starts getting radio support

It's interesting looking back at the lists - sometimes they've got it absolutely dead right (Mika winning 2007), sometimes very wrong ('The Bravery' winning 2005), sometimes they've predicted an act who did become huge but a few years too early, like Adele in 2008 and Plan B way back in 2006.

Sound of 2004 was pretty incredible...Keane winning followed by Franz Ferdinand, Wiley, Razorlight, Joss Stone, McFly, Scissor Sisters and the Ordinary Boys, with only #9 and #10 (Tali and Gemma Fox) not quite getting the fame the others received. And Sound of 2009, with Little Boots #1 and some woman called 'Lady Gaga' at #6 (#6!!!) is just hilarious.

I thought it was known that GaGa was "only #6" because she was huge anyway? They wanted to give it to someone who wasn't so obvious, to help them out as GaGa clearly didn't need to win that poll...
I think most of the ones I think will make the list have been said already, although I'd love Public Service Broadcasting and Wonder Villains to make the list as well.
I'd like to think Mikky Ekko can make a name for himself. I've only heard one of his songs (but it is BRILLIANT!) and frmo the clips, his song on Rihanna's new album sounds like it could be the highlight of that very album. Hopefully he can do decently for himself.

I would like to see someone good win this list this year. Kiwanuka has only had 1 hit single and a low selling album. Whereas Frank Ocean, Azealia Banks and Skrillex (who came 2nd, 3rd and 4th) have had their popularity boosted a lot this year. Other Sound Of 2012 acts to have scored a chart hit this year were Stooshe, Flux Pavilion and Dot Rotten.

At the moment there's no one who I really want in this list. Bastille, Foxes and Charli XCX should probably be contenders for the win - but most artists don't need this to get popular. The only success story of Sound Of recently was Jessie J.

EDIT - Icona Pop could do with a Sound Of nomination. 'I Love It' sounds like a UK #5 SMASH in the making.

I'd like to just say, that I was the only one to mention Rita Ora last year, kk thx.

That first post does look very accurate.

Foxes, CHVRCHES, Angel Haze, not sure if Kendrick Lamar is too big but perhaps him, AlunaGeorge, Danny Brown, Gabrielle Aplin, Pins, Zedd (maybe) are other names I'd say are possible/likely.
