November 17, 201212 yr 'Lost' and 'The Boy Who Murdered Love' :(, the latter blows 'Once' out of the water and while 'Lost' isn't better than 'Viva La Vida' it certainly shouldn't have done as badly as it did, I'd have wanted it to do as well as 'Charlie Brown' or something at least but eh..
November 17, 201212 yr WHAT IF I’M RIGHT- SANDI THOM Hippy bohemian guitar rock is always a unpredictable genre to test the charts with but Thom thought she had cracked it with debut single “Punk Rocker” going all the way but after the initial attention drifted away from her she struggled with this track which is much of the same (although in my opinion slightly better than its predecessor). MORAL OF THE STORY: NOBODY LOVES A HIPPY BEYOND 3 MINUTES Totally agree with you Gezza. I think I mentioned this not long ago - maybe in this thread even, but it's a shame that Sandi Thom's most successful single is ultimately her worst, imo, and I think every single track she released after was infinitely better - again imo. :D
November 17, 201212 yr 'The Boy Who Murdered Love' was incredible, much better than 'Once'. So disappointing that it flopped, sometimes I just don't GET the public. It's because the public has taste. :D
November 17, 201212 yr WHAT IF I’M RIGHT- SANDI THOM http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/21/What_If.jpg PEAK POSITION: 22 SALES: 27K FOLLOW UP TO: I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER (WITH FLOWERS IN MY HAIR) Hippy bohemian guitar rock is always a unpredictable genre to test the charts with but Thom thought she had cracked it with debut single “Punk Rocker” going all the way but after the initial attention drifted away from her she struggled with this track which is much of the same (although in my opinion slightly better than its predecessor). MORAL OF THE STORY: NOBODY LOVES A HIPPY BEYOND 3 MINUTES jtjdEfCCuyYIDC what anybody says, this IS a pop gem! It's so, so good. I was disgusted to see it peak at #22 when IIWAPRWFIMH was a flipping massive #1 :( This deserved to be bloody huge.
November 17, 201212 yr Sandi's 2008 flop single The Devil's Beat was amazing too, possibly her best song. I saw her live at the peak of her fame, it was interesting
November 17, 201212 yr Its annoying how Once was always the biggest Diana Vickers, its really dated badly and the Boy Who Murdered Love was filled with so much better. My obsession with her is long past, but the debut was good for what it was. As for Coldplay, it all sort of went up in the air after Viva La Vida as far as I'm concerned, I wish they'd have released Lovers From Japan off that album. Edited November 17, 201212 yr by C.W
November 17, 201212 yr Coldplay completely messed up the entire VLVODAAHF era, really a wonder how they still managed to shift so many albums. 'Mylo Xyloto' was also not handled greatly but a massive improvement.
November 17, 201212 yr Lost is one of my favourite Coldplay songs (definitely my favourite on the album). I was devasted when it flopped!
November 17, 201212 yr It's because the public has taste. :D If they did, then One Direction wouldn't be #1 at the moment :( I remember hearing that Sandi Thom track quite alot back in 2006, i thought it'd done a bit better than #22
November 17, 201212 yr "What If I'm Right" and "The Boy Who Murdered Love" I adore! Both great songs, both should have done better and both better than their respective #1s (Even if "Once" is a good song). I know "Primadonna" didn't get to #1, but was "Power and Control" ever an official single? Shame Sandi isn't popular anymore, but hey it's all money-making machines who get the attention, but that's another discussion.
November 17, 201212 yr I know "Primadonna" didn't get to #1, but was "Power and Control" ever an official single? Yes, it charted at #193. :o
November 17, 201212 yr Yes, it charted at #193. :o I know it did bad, but WHOAH! I actually liked that song too. Even more so than "Primadonna"!
November 18, 201212 yr Everyone loves “Nothing Compares 2 U” don’t they? No, you are wrong. I dislike “Nothing Compares 2 U”.
November 18, 201212 yr Author No, you are wrong. I dislike “Nothing Compares 2 U”. Oh Alex and to think I was the one championing your fine musical taste in another thread! :(
November 18, 201212 yr Sandi's 2008 flop single The Devil's Beat was amazing too, possibly her best song. I saw her live at the peak of her fame, it was interesting  One of my favourite singles from 2008, such a brilliant year for music though!
November 18, 201212 yr waiting impatiently for LEGENDARY RADAR to appear. "Radar" wasn't the followup to a #1 single though, so it won't appear.
November 18, 201212 yr Author NOTHING IS REAL BUT THE GIRL- BLONDIE http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f7/Blondie_-_Nothing_Is_Real_But_The_Girl_UK_CD2.jpg PEAK POSITION: 26 SALES: 26K FOLLOW UP TO: MARIA In hindsight it might have been far more glorious to come back with a comprehensive GH package and a couple of new tracks on it including “Maria” which is of course a AMAZE record. Perhaps then seeing the ignominy of your second single of the great “comeback” bomb so badly would have been lessened. OK, it’s not No 1 material but it lasted just 3 wks in the chart, poor MORAL OF THE STORY: WHEN STAGING A COMEBACK HAVE A STRATEGY NOT JUST ONE GREAT SINGLE. qsdemJazSVM
