How could I forget Lulu? If you discount her featuring on "Relight My Fire" she's never had a solo number one single

Eight time BRIT Awards-winner Annie Lennox never reached the No.1 spot as a solo artist! That's a shock!

Edit: Alison Moyet!!! Oh dear!

50 Cent definitely deserves a mention.

Now that has shocked me :o :o Not even as a featured artist?

Prince has one over here with "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" (which may have been credited as Symbol?) but the US have much better taste in him with "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy" hitting #1.

Springsteen is a big one, probably the US' most consistently strong rock act over the last 40 years but "Dancing In The Dark" only made #2 over there (one of seven top 10s off Born In The USA as well!) while "Streets of Philadelphia" just missed out over here.

the most beautiful was number one in the UK? good! not his best song, but he deserves at leat one number 1!

in the US I think he has had more: When doves cry, let´s go carzy, Kiss, Batdance and Cream

Bananarama - "Venus" was no.1 in the US but only reahed no.8 here, their biggest hits were "Robert De Niro's Waiting" and "Love In The First Degree", oh and "Help" all reaching no.3
The video for "Ill Manors" probably cost Plan B any shot of a #1 this era at least - it's such an addictive track yet TV wouldn't touch it so it dropped like a stone.

If only it was his collab with Labrinth that was performed on XF instead of 'Beneath Your Beautiful'. :(

Kelis. I know she hasn't been relevant enough in the UK album-wise but she's been in the top 5 EIGHT times (including features) but none of them was at the top!

The Foo Fighters have also never been to the top despite some of their lead singles peaking inside the top 5/10.

No, he had a lot of big hits as a featured artist like Hate It or Love It, Right There, Crack a Bottle, etc. but none went to #1.

His closest to #1 was Ayo Technology, which peaked at #2, and missed out at #1 by just a few hundred or thousand copies I think.

Specifically, I think In Da Club should've been a #1, since it was basically the "biggest" song of 2003 (I know Where is the Love was the highest-selling, but In Da Club seemed like a much bigger hit).

NME did a list along these lines the other day, these were included:

Depeche Mode (most hits without a #1)

Billy Fury (most chart weeks without a #1)

Sash! (most #2s without a #1)

Bon Jovi

Janet Jackson

James Brown

AC/DC (most hits without a top 10)

Super Furry Animals

The Cure

R.E.M.

Radiohead

Genesis

Dire Straits

Bruce Springsteen

Bob Dylan

The Saturdays should have had at least one. In a fair land 'Just Cant Get Enough', 'Forever Is Over', 'Missing You' and 'All Fired Up' would have got there.

Victoria Beckham had two close encounters with 'Out Of Your Mind' and 'This Groove' - although the latter did get to #1 in Asia

I'm surprised the NME list doesn't include The Who.

Depeche Mode have somehow never even had a top three single.

I was surprised at that as well, the first comment on the article mentioned them as well.

The Saturdays having anything close to four #1s would make a bit of a mockery of the charts really, none of their songs have sold well enough to feel particularly hard done by although it would have been nice for "Up" to do a little better.

I think it's kinda funny how such "minor" artists can get #1's with their first few singles (Cover Drive, Rita Ora, Wiley, Chipmunk, Dappy, Professor Green, Wretch 32) while other bigger artists can go for years without getting one, and also how easy it is for some artists to get multiple #1's in the space of a year (Lady GaGa, B.O.B, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Example, Tinie Tempah, JLS). Even the likes of Neyo and Olly Murs seem to get a #1 with every new album.

I was also suprised it took so long for Chris Brown to get a #1, although it's terrible that the likes of Forever/With You/Crawl/Yeah x3 etc missed out while the awful 'Turn Up The Music' got it. I thought Labrinth was going to join this list too until Beneath Your Beautiful.

And I'm putting Conor Maynard, Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks, Taylor Swift, Plan B, James Morrison and Alicia Keys on this list for now.

What number did Janet's song 'Together Again' get too? I thought that was a big hit!
