Posted November 22, 201212 yr So, despite finishing in the bottom two a few times during the series, including in the first week (!), former Australian flopstar Samantha Jade has turned her career around and turned the public perception of her on its head and reigned supreme as the victor of X Factor Australia. What You've Done To Me is the winner's single, has been released to Australian iTunes and is already #1 there. It's a solid gold pop song that is absolutely up there with last year's equivalent, Good Night by Reece Mastin. WHY can't UK winner's singles be this inspired? It sounds like something Buzzjack will absolutely love, should this thread not be knocked down to page 2 by lunchtime, so I thought I'd post. If it was The Sats' comeback single (and it very much has their 'sound' to it), it would be hailed as their best in years; MsDfzHWzz1I 6lW6ileF5kE I'm also a rather huge fan of the Eurovision (specifically Lena Philipsson) inspired staging with the microphone stand!
November 22, 201212 yr Has X Factor Australia had "bottom 2" winners before or is this hope we might not have a Christopher or Jahmene victory this year? I don't like it quite as much as "Good Time" but it's still a great original song that I'd love our version to have rather than some cliché ballad.

November 22, 201212 yr As you may have seen across the forum, I love this song and love Sammi. So so glad she won.
November 22, 201212 yr Really decent song although I can't say it sounds anything like the Saturdays. (Probably for the best.) She did some great performances on X Factor (Freefallin' especially). Hopefully her album will be more dance-pop than pop-rock... she has a certain Kylie-ish quality to her.
November 22, 201212 yr Samantha is amazing, I knew she had potential from before the live shows, then I saw her do Wide Awake and I thought 'this girl really is great' and was livid she was bottom 2! Her finest moments imo were UFO, Scream and Freefallin' plus of course Heartless which was absolutely just incredible. What You've Done To Me is shit the bed amazing too, could feasibly be a big hit outside of Australia but I think sadly she'll definitely join Jessica Mauboy as an Aussie who could've smashed but was never ever given half a chance :(

November 23, 201212 yr She's like a cross between Kylie and Mariah, true pop star. I think she started getting votes after people realized how nice she is. Hardly anybody watches Australian X factor so the small amount of votes can see a big turnaround in fortunes. I doubt she will do anything over here though, even Guy Sebastien is unknown over here and he's the man in Australia. If The Collective were on our X Factor they'd be the next big thing, they are very good, edgy with the rapping and very commercial. Their song Surrender was pretty good as well. They crap all over Union J.

Outside of it I can understand, but outside of them showing the US version in the UK, I am not aware of many countries showing other countries version of X Factor.
November 23, 201212 yr Have you seen the actual ratings for the show? Very small in comparison to ours, on their best day they get about 2m tuning in! They're a very twittercentric show yet Samantha Jade has only 38k followers. So they get alot less votes than other versions and the see saw voting reflects that.
November 23, 201212 yr It's still the #1 rated show most nights, even if proportionally the viewers are even less than ours. I guess less people watch TV in Australia, doesn't matter anyway because Samantha topped iTunes with her Heartless performance, and WYDTM went straight to #1 on iTunes!

Not only that, but Australia is in 5 different time zones right now. Many people record it to watch it later, I do.

There is only 20m people in the country so capturing 10% of the country isn't a bad audience. Getting 10% of the total US audience is almost unheard of for example. Plus, as Liam said, the country is split across multiple timezones.
November 23, 201212 yr I never said it wasn't, I brought up the viewing figures in relation to the voting and how easily it can change if less people vote. It would be harder for a bottom 2 act to win ours, I think she was bottom 2 twice. Nathiel could have won if things went slightly differently on song choice, Angel was another potential winner... Bella was always gonna be a Diana Vickers/Janet Devlin type who people get sick of the more they try and fit the themes. Did anybody notice the amount of UK acts on the results shows? UK pop is thriving right now! Edited November 23, 201212 yr by BuzzLightyear
November 24, 201212 yr Author 2 million/20 million is a really good strike rate but makes it seem even more surreal that Melodifestivalen has been known to pull in up to 4 million viewers per show in Sweden, almost 50% of the entire population, let alone people that are just watching TV
November 24, 201212 yr LOVE this song, really hope it crosses over internationally but we all know it won't. I think it would stand a better chance if it wasn't for X Factor though. Australian TV ratings are weird though I think?. 2 million is great but those ratings are only from the big capital cities. For some reason they don't include the small towns/rural areas (almost like they don't matter) as far as I know. I've never understood why. The Voice final had something like 2.5million in the cities but overall it was reported well over 3M watched it in total.
December 12, 201212 yr So I have been listening to this on youtube for the past week over and over again, not realising it's available to buy on our iTunes! I never checked before now, as I was thinking "Meh. We probably won't ever get it and it'll become available, just as I'm bored of it!" etc.. but today I checked and bought it! :D There is an album on there of, what I am assuming to be, her X Factor performances. Seem to be full, studio versions too! Dunno if I'll buy it, but checked out some previews and they seemed good.
December 14, 201212 yr Yes it's studio versions of songs she performed on the X Factor. I have the album being shipped and on it's way from Australia. Not only that but Samantha's album that she recorded before X Factor called "The Golden Touch" has now been put on Itunes and there's 16 songs!!! Link here: https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/th...ch/id584465829 It's available world-wide, so if you're from the UK search Samantha Jade and it'll come up - and its £6,99 Also a christmas song called Christmas At Last has been put up onto Itunes as well Link here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/ch...le/id583510109 Again it's on Itunes world-wide!!
December 20, 201212 yr Looks like the video for What You've Done To Me is going to be AMAZING!!! EpRFGeLM-bA Looks like it's going to be an elements style video. If done right and the video is incredible, it really could work and be released internationally. I'd say start promoting in Europe around February, but I bet they wont!
