So, I appreciate this isn't entirely Chart related, but thought it was worth a brief mention:

YouTube views:

PSY - Gangnam Style: 803,695,387

Justin Bieber - Baby: 803,653,685

Gangnam Style is now the most viewed YouTube video of all time

Yet I've not viewed it in full once. And hopefully never will.
Yessssss!!! More views than Justin Bieber, thank you PSY for saving the music industry :yahoo:

TBH "Baby" never deserved to be the most viewed video and I'm glad it's not any more

Some might argue "Gangnam Style" doesn't deserve it either but that kid at 0:28 *.*

A lot of the views will have been from haters, who continuously post their hatred towards him but then can't understand why the video has so many views! :P

I get why 'Gangnam Style' is the most viewed video. A lot of people just like the video and not necessarily the song. But I, personally think they both work so well together.

What have been the most-viewed Youtube music videos?

I remember when I started using Youtube it was Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne, and obviously there was Baby and now Gangnam Style. What was it that overtook Girlfriend (I highly doubt that was the most-viewed video all the way up until Baby in 2010 ).

If Youtube had been this popular for longer, I wonder what videos would be up there. I'm sure ones like Call On Me, In Da Club and Dirrty would have a lot of views.

I think that Bad Romance was the most viewed video at some point before Baby took over?

If youtube had been around in the 80s Rick Astley and MJ's Thriller would be up there amongst the top viewed of all time.

Never Gonna Give You Up has 55 million views!

Thriller has 124 million views! (amazing for an old song)

Then from the 00s we have The Ketchup Song and Bob The Builder theme tune, there must've been others that I forgot about.

I checked on Google, and it went:

Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

Justin Bieber - Baby

PSY - Gangnam Style

I'm surprised it still held the record all the way into early 2010, especially with all those other massive hits we had in 2007-2009. And the music video to Girlfriend that had all those views got deleted in 2009 I believe (leaving the next highest-viewed video as 7 Things by Miley Cyrus), so it could've held on for even longer if it had been left up! :o

It surprises me the songs that have so many views. I can understand Gangnam Style, but there were like 10 hits bigger than Girlfriend and Bad Romance in their respective years, and LOADS of hits bigger than 7 Things and Baby. Songs like On the Floor, Look At Me Now, Rain Over Me, Waka Waka, Not Afraid, etc. surprise me with their Youtube views too.

On The Floor is third most viewed music video on YouTube, it never really got to take the title of the most viewed video as Baby had too many views for it to overtake sadly.

Yes, I posted the list of songs that were most-viewed on Youtube above.

On the Floor has a surprising amount of views imo. It's an average song, and an average video (although that applies to most of the songs with a lot of views, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised ). It was a massive worldwide hit though, which means it's got a huge number of people that'll know the song. Same with Waka Waka and Rain Over Me. Something like Hips Don't Lie would probably have a massive amount of views if Youtube was massive in 2006 for a similar reason.

Elton John - Candle In The Wind would have certainly been the most viewed of 1997 if youtube was around then.

What about Barbie Girl?

What about Barbie Girl?

That would have been in the top 10 maybe. Candle In The Wind was MASSIVE in 1997, it went to #1 pretty much everywhere. Diana's funeral was equally huge then, all the cartoons, TV programmes and even Match Of The Day got cancelled because of it.

Her funeral is the 2nd most viewed special event of all time in the UK alone so Elton John's performance at the funeral would have been seen by billions of people.

Yeah you could be right. I think Barbie Girl would've gone viral like Call Me Maybe and Gangnam Style if the Internet and social networking sites were big back then. I think it would easily have been 2nd that year at least (as it was big all over the world), unless there's another massive hit from that time that I'm missing out. There's Diddy (or Puff Daddy or whatever he was called at the time ), but I don't think that would've been such a massive Youtube hit.
