Amazing.

One of the best songs I discovered back in 2003. The UK charts were so US Billboard Hot 100 that year it hurt. :(

Wow 80's hookup

Apparently a tweet appeared on the BBC Eurovision twitter feed saying "Breaking News: Kimberley Walsh ft. Lys Assia to represent UK at Eurovision Song Contest 2013"! That has now been deleted, presumably the twitter account was hacked!

Edited by Ryan.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kimberley Walsh represented the United Kingdom, she's got decent ties with BBC and her album has flopped quite bad!
Rita Ora has been saying how glad she is she withdrew from the UK's Eurovision 2009 selection as if she hadn't 'it will have all been over for her and at best she'd probably have ended up on Splash!'

I'm so happy Jade has responded saying how proud she is of doing Eurovision and Splash, I hope she knows how proud we are of her!

Full story here if you haven't heard about it: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/news/a...to-success.html

What a dumb bitch. Rita obviously. And unfortunately SO many people in the UK seem to think Eurovision causes careers to end. :/

Well I don't think it killed Jade's career, she was just very unfortunate that the Sugabababes died around that time, mainly thanks to Sweet 7 being one of the worst albums ever recorded. In general though there is a very definite stigma attached to taking part, especially for younger acts who want to be popular and it's seen as desperately uncool. I blame radio 1 (the root of ALL EVIL).

THIS. Eurovision didn't kill Jade's career, Radio 1 refusing to play Sugababes singles as they were seen as "cookie-cutter pop" (urgh) did.

Rita really does come across as VILE in that article though. "What the hell was I doing auditioning in front of one of the most successful songwriters in the world to be on the biggest musical TV show in the world? Who did they think I am?" :puke2:

So true. Ora is a vile person... She'll come down to earth with a bump when her second album probably flops anyway... I thought Radio 1 did play AAG and WMK though? In fact I'm pretty sure they did.

What goes around, comes around. Rita might think that Eurovision isnt taken seriously in the UK, but in many parts of europe, its taken very seriously. Once the european media get to hear that Rita Ora thinks she's "Too good for Eurovision", her career could sink faster than her bitchy comments. She will soon change her tune when the hits stop happening, and all she's left with are offers to take part in 'I'm a Celebrity'...

I don't blame Radio 1 for not supporting Sugababes' crap Jade featuring singles, but I do blame them for completely blacklisting anything to do with Eurovision. What was so irrelevant to their audience about Euphoria or I Can if Bridgit Mendler and Selena Gomez can get playlist slots?

And I like (not love) a lot of Rita's stuff but she's hardly god's gift, just somebody with a fairly decent voice who got a lucky break and 15 minutes of fame. Jade is far more humble and likeable.

Radio one did playlist both tracks. Both went top 10. The public sided with Keisha despite 4.0's fabricated lies being thrown around everywhere. The fact that Shite 7 was leaked 9weeks before its release meant that by the time it was released nobody gave a shit.

Yeah, I don't think he meant Radio 1 being responsible for Jade's "downfall", but more anything to do with Eurovision in general. It does frustrate me though. This is something we could actually be proud of, if we achieved it. I hate the fact that current artists now days feel like they're too good for Eurovision/don't dare to do it coz of the "curse" or whatever.

I just think it looks bad on us as a country that we don't take anything as seriously as other countries. I would ADORE it, if we had our own Melodifestivalen or Melodi Grand Prix type thing. Get rid of the generic Eurovision novelty type tracks, so that the UK public don't think "we should send this coz it's so eurovision!!!!1111"!!1" like they clearly did with Scooch (as much as I actually loved that song ) I think Cyndi would have been a genuine game changer for us. Having said that though, I don't think she would have done as well as Jade did. The attitude towards Jade coming top 5 was disgusting. We should have been proud of that. But with it being the UK, we still deemed it a flop, just because we didn't "win". Bleh.

Most notably Blue :(

The UK's failure to do well in Eurovision lies totally with the BBC and more particularly those who choose the acts that are going to represent us.

Re; 2011 were Hurts asked and they rejected, or was it more a case of Hurts expressed some interest and the BBC said "ha, don't think so guys" without doing a little research on Hurts first. Same with Katie Melua 'The Flood' who offered her song to Eurovision and I'm sure would've done brilliantly had the BBC taken a chance.

I still just think the BBC don't want to have the honour of hosting Eurovision because of the costs involved. If money wasn't an issue, they'd avoid entering acts like Englebert and that worldwide POP ICON Josh Debouvie for credible alternatives.

Cân i Gymru tonight btw, for those who can receive S4C and are interested...
I often wonder if the BBC still think that the likes of Clodagh Rogers can do well at Eurovision. Picking Engelbert Humperdink over Diana Vickers, and turning down current or credible artists like Hurts and Katie Melua doesnt give me much confidence that we will have a good entry when we do 'finally' find out who the UK artist is. A lot of names i've heard being rumoured are Susan Boyle, Kim Wilde, Shirley Bassey, Bonnie Tyler and even Bonnie Langford - not exactly stating '2013' or 'modern' are they?...There's such a dated stigma in the UK regarding Eurovision, even our rumoured artists are past thier cell by date..so goodness knows what the actual announcement will be. :(

There was one MAJOR song in CiG tonight ^^ glad it wasn't as dire an edition as in 2012.

EDIT: https://soundcloud.com/can-i-gymru-2013/aur-ac-arian

They made big steps if you ask me, wouldn't have seen anything near to contemporary as last year's was filled with dire 90's SFE rejects.

I know she aint modern, but if DSB agreed to do it she would be both AMAZING and do very well.

Not that she would EVER do it mind.

You mean Shirley Bassey right? Have to agree. She is hugely famous and respected right across Europe. I don't see why she wouldn't do it, she did San Remo twice in the 70s.

I meant to watch Can I Gymru but I actually had a social life for once  Is there a watch again link?

I just think she's at that living legend stage in her career now so basically she has no need to do it, what would she gain by doing it? I mean toddling out on stage to do a performance of Diamonds or Goldfinger every few months will keep her in sparkly dresses for the rest of her days.

Though if they provide her with a VIP LOUNGE it might be a different story.
