March 7, 201312 yr Yet another disaster for the UK - with another old has been. - Bottom 5 again I fear. A piece of trivia - what's the connection between Bonnie Tyler and 2000 entrant Nicki French (and she didn't do well either coming 16th) Both have had hits with Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Tyler's version was #1 30 years ago this week GD made that point first (see page 16 :P ). However, wouldn't it be amazing if Bonnie also finished 16th too? :D
March 7, 201312 yr Who on EARTH is going to be picking up the phone for this? It's nice in a 7/10 way. I'd be shocked if it was many people's favourites by the end of the night.
March 7, 201312 yr The best she can hope for is a draw towards the end, being surrounded by two weak upbeat songs and being adored by the juries (which it won't be, Engelbert did better in the televote last year!). Even that would probably take her to only 18th-20th at best :(
March 8, 201312 yr Another disaster for the UK, 20th at the very best. The thinking behind selecting a song for Eurovision is ridiculous. I wonder in reality did anyone who selected this genuinely think it has a winning sound? The attempt of trying to pick up votes based on name rather than song is daft and that in my opinion is what has gone on both last year and this year.
March 8, 201312 yr alot of negative comments, seeing that live performance ok her vocals might seem a bit weak but I think she will try and improve her voice and performance as much as she can, being the first single of a comeback album she will want it to do well. Anyway I love the song and Bonnie, My Fave British eurovision entry since Gina G.

March 8, 201312 yr OMG BONNIE TYLER LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Biggest question now is: Why does the BBC not want to win To avoid the huge expense of hosting. Question answered. Having an easy 8 million pull on a Saturday night with a pretty big named performer (so that the general public don't go "pfft, they're sending a nobody again") is all that the BBC want. March 8, 201312 yr I was so disappointed when it was finally announced that it was Bonnie Tyler. But, the funny thing is, the response from around the rest of europe has been the completely opposite to the negative reactions in the UK.. Denmark's top radio station thinks that Bonnie Tyler is the strongest competition for the Danish entry, and they wrote a very positve article saying how popular Bonnie Tyler still is around europe. Last years Spanish entrant (Pastora) tweeted that she loves the UK entry, and another Spanish fan said that 'Believe in Me' is the only Eurovision entry of 2013 that has been played on Spanish radio...i've also seen many positive comments from Swedish, Belgians and Greeks who have the song as thier number 1. Maybe its a British thing?, but lets be honest, we havent exactly been very good at picking UK entries have we? - Dont Play that Song Again, Scooch, Jemini, Andy Abrahams, Javine, Josh Dubovie ect - Europe 'didnt get' any of them..and yet, i remember Nicki French being at the top of many UK Eurovision polls - Brits blamed 'the war in Iraq' for Jemini's 0 points - totally oblivious to the fact that Gemma couldnt sing for toffee and the song was so repetitive, it could have been written on the back of a fag packet..and of course Scooch - the biggest embarassment of the lot - As fellow Brit John Barrowman described to a very fickle UK audience that it would be - 'Perfect for Eurovision'...LOL in 1935 maybe. And yet, Love Shine a Light, was described by brit's as boring, 'Come Back (a snoozefest) and 'My Time as rubbish by a lot of Brits. A winner and two top 5 positions. So going by British taste at Eurovision, its looking very good for Bonnie :D Edited March 8, 201312 yr by James07
March 8, 201312 yr I've only heard positive things being said about it in Europe as well. Maybe it's because the UK's taste in music and Europe's taste is quite different? A lot of British artists who aren't hugely successful here do much better in Europe, and maybe this is another instance of that?
March 8, 201312 yr There's also very postive reviews from Germany - where Fedderson, a German columnist for ARD wrote - "Bonnie Tyler at any rate is the best thing that could happen to this years ESC - a celebrity beyond compare"....and on another Eurovision site, a guy from Finland said that they are saying very postive comments about Bonnie and the song on a Finnish forum, and how much her style of music appeals to thier taste. He said that they never usually rate the UK entries - but they love this one.. Over 200,000 Youtube hits in 24 hours cant be bad either - I'm actually glad it is Bonnie Tyler now. March 8, 201312 yr Not looking too bad then..what was the reception around Europe to Engelbert at the same stage though? Wasn't he similarly a more popular choice in the rest of Europe?
March 8, 201312 yr Oh wouldn't it be ironic if the BBC only sent Bonnie Tyler thinking the UK haven't got a chance...and the UK wins. Poor BBC bosses would be running around like headless chickens on the Sunday morning.
March 8, 201312 yr I doubt we'll win, but she seems to be equally as well received as Patricia Kaas was, so maybe we'll have a shock top 10 finish?
March 8, 201312 yr Not looking too bad then..what was the reception around Europe to Engelbert at the same stage though? Wasn't he similarly a more popular choice in the rest of Europe?I think with Engelbert it was more a case of "It's alright. Nothing too great, but the judges will love it" sort of reaction I think. God knows where the praise is coming from for our entry this year, it's so... simple, weak and there isn't really anything going for it at all... but who knows! I do hope we get a decent place finish though.
March 8, 201312 yr The more I listen to this song and the reactions from around Europe, the more I think that it could well do better than expected, mid-table perhaps although I don't expect it to get any further than that. It's quite catchy for an MOR ballad and the production is gorgeous. It sort of reminds me of a couple of Faith Hill songs, particularly the middle eight and it's frankly ten times better than the majority of the 'efforts' that other countries have put forward thus far. Obviously I'd prefer somebody relevant with a current song but the fact of the matter is that the BBC have in the last three years sent pretty high quality songs (granted not songs that are particularly suitable for the contest) by acts that have achieved millions of record sales and UK #1's in the past, as well as being 'names' in Europe, not that it's got them anywhere thus far. Certainly a better route to go down than the likes of Josh Dubovie, Jemini and the like. At least we can hold our heads high if we finish last with this, as opposed to finishing last with That Sounds Shite To Me  We're making baby steps, give it five years and we might get that killer package of a high quality song from somebody that still has a chart career!
March 9, 201312 yr I do quite like the song, it's catchy and could do fairly well if it was in the hands of someone who could actually SING. Her voice is truly the stuff of nightmares, she must gargle gravel, battery acid and nails every night and smoke 50 a day to get such a hideous sounding voice. I really do think the BBC should try and hook someone who has been on X Factor the year prior, with little hope of actually doing much, but enough public presence to actually mean something. With a good song they could do quite well I imagine. Though no doubt if they did that it would just be the Rylan ''joke'' type act that makes it.
March 9, 201312 yr I like it! Yes it is painfully MOR, but when has that been a problem in Eurovision? Realistically I hope we can finish above 20th as it's quite a nice song and her name will draw attention to our entry. I feel more optimistic about this than I did with Engelbert.
March 9, 201312 yr I reckon it will get low-ish points from quite a lot of countries, and end up with about 50 odd when all is said and done. which I guess will only be enough for 16th-20th :(
March 9, 201312 yr I agree, I can see us bagging a number of 2-5's with maybe a 7/8 from Ireland (and something from Norway, I know that's been proven wrong many times before, but it was the last bastion of success for her so who knows).
