Surprised they have dropped Kylie, especially as the album seems to be doing better than expected

How is the playlist selected?

The Playlist Committee, made up of producers and chaired by Jeff Smith, Head of Music Radio 2, meet each week to decide which new releases will be added to the station's playlist.

The playlist contains about 30 tracks which are divided into three levels: A list which receives the most plays, between 15 and 20 per week; B list between 5 and 10 plays and up to 5 plays per week for the C list.

The Radio 2 playlist is one of the most varied of any radio station in the UK and can include albums as well as singles. Before any track can be considered it must be commercially available or be within 3 weeks of commercial availability.

Apart from Coldplay, Labrinth, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey and One Direction, that is a TERRIBLE playlist.

Paloma gone?

Finished editing the first post, sorry it took a while - I had to go to some "open evening" at school.

Great that Coldplay's new one is getting support on both Radio 1 and 2, although it's a shame both have dropped Adele's Skyfall on the same week.

"Catch My Breath" is amazing pop song and you need a doctor if you regard it terrible..Nicki's Minaj outfits are terrible..

I heard Catch My Breath a few days ago. Can't say I can remember how it goes, but I know I enjoyed it and it was definitely a Kelly Clarkson sounding record.

The Radio 1 list is better than the Radio 2 list at the moment, but it still includes songs I like: Bruno Mars, Labrinth, Olly Murs, Robbie Williams, Kelly Clarkson, Lana Del Rey, fun., and probably the 2012 version of Whitney Houston's I Look to You (I consider the original to be one of my favourite Whitney songs, and I don't imagine this version is much different - will probably be R Kelly doing a bit at the beginning and before the last chorus.)

Does anyone know whether this weeks record of the week (Jeff Lynne's Mercy Mercy) is getting an official release? As far as I'm aware, it is just an album track (I do know they can have an album track as record of the week though).
Is this 1D's first foray onto the Radio 2 playlist or did they play Gotta Be You too? Yay for Mika, my favourite song on his very strong and criminally ignored album! Great to see Steps move up to the b-list too, and that Katie Melua song is sublime. Nice for Jessica Mauboy to get some UK exposure too although I guess she will naturally with the Sapphires film being released and promoted here.
I thought they would add Girls Aloud since Radio 2 are usually the official CIN radio?

The focus date is 10th December but I'm not sure it will get a "single" release

Anyone know what the focus audience is for Radio 2? If Radio 1 is 15 - 29, I'm assuming that Radio 2 is 29+?

I'm not sure, but surprisingly after a quick look on their website, Radio 2 is the most listened to station in the UK! :o Which is quite surprising since Radio 2 doesn't seem to have a huge influence on the chart.

Jessica Mauboy is on this playlist! :cheer: I hope she can get a top 100 hit now 'Sapphires' (the movie) has been released!
One Direction on Radio 2, er what? Yet no Robbie on Radio 1. Mad.

I still haven't heard the song yet, but apparently it sounds just like an Ed Sheeran song, so it's not surprising. They playlisted a JLS song once before aswell (I think it was Love You More).

I suppose it's strange that boy bands are getting played on there, but the songs themselves are suitable for the station imo.

Robbie's song is quite up-beat and "weird" (not in a bad way), so I think Radio 2 are less likely to play a song like that.

Shame the Kristina Train song is out, literally just heard it (having bought the album on a whim) and it's very classy, although it's basically A Whiter Shade Of Pale...
