A countdown of the top 20 tunes, featuring classics by Wizzard, Mariah Carey, Slade and more on ITV1 tonight (6:30pm), mind you the programme clashes with the final of Strictly Come Dancing.

Also BBC2 are showing Top Of The Pops 2 Christmas 2012 at 8pm to 9:30pm

and on BBC2 are showing a docu on The Story Of Fairytale of New York at 12:00pm to 1:00am

The program clash is not a problem. :P

Must record the latter!

Is this by the same people who did The Nation's ABBA/Bee Gees songs and Number Ones?

Those shows and this show is being shown on ITV1, so I assume so.

These are the descriptions in the Radio Times of those three programmes:

The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song

"To mark the 70th anniversary of the release of the best-selling festive song of all time, Bing Crosby's White Christmas, this show counts down the Top 20 seasonal songs, as voted for in a nationwide poll. The stories behind the most well-known and well-loved tunes are told, and there are contributions from Noddy Holder, Shane MacGowan, Cliff Richard, Jona Lewie, Alexandra Burke, and more"

Top Of The Pops 2: Christmas

"Mark Radcliffe introduces festive treats, including perennial favourites from Slade, Wizzard, Shakin' Stevens, Wham!, Paul McCartney and the Wombles. There are also songs by the Ramones and supergroup the Greddies, which featured Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott alongside Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, as well as a track by French chanteuse Francoise Hardy and gospel singer Mahalia Jackson's 1964 performance of Silent Night"

The Story Of Fairytale Of New York

"A look at the making of the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's song"

This is starting on ITV1 right now.

This countdown will obviously not live up to the Buzzjack's Favourite Christmas Songs results, which is happening in the Lounge right now. You could click on the link in my signature to get involved in the contest, you know.

5. Mariah

4. Bing Crosby

3. Slade

2. Wizzard

1. The Pogues

No shock at #1 but well done to Wizzard for getting so high! The song that defines my childhood!

I can't agree more with that top 3. I don't mind 'White Christmas' but there are other Christmas classics I prefer more.

Great to see Greg Lake & Jona Lewie doing so well  Wham being so low and Mariah not top 3 was very surprising, but I don't think they're anywhere near the top 3.

I don't suppose anyone remembers what was 11th, 16th & 17th? just because they're the only ones I don't remember!

Just watched it on catch up. Really pleased the best song won :D

I love that Greg Lake song too - glad it was top 10!

It always disappoints me that Greg Lake and Jona Lewie (even though Stop The Cavalry wasn't meant to be a Christmas song) don't sell more downloads each year.

I am distraught that no one bothered to mention my love for The Christmas Song when it was revealed. :( Those strings gave me goosebumps!
Well as I predicted, my most hated Christmas song won. I can't stand it and reckon a lot of it's popularity is because of Kirsty's tragic death. Who knew that it was originally sung in 1986 by just the Pogues? I never knew that!
Good top 5. The rest of it felt very granny centric though...

Well, your granny always tells you the old songs are the best... :P

Some surprising results, Wham! only #8, Mariah only #5 :o

I don't see Mariah #5 as a shock, amongst the types that download it's clearly part of a top 2, but as an overall population I'd certainly put it low end of the top 10.

Does this mean that we can talk about TOTP2 in here as well?

I thought that it was brilliant. It was the best one that they have made since 2009. I really enjoying listening to all of the songs, especially the new songs that I hadn't heard before!

Gonna watch the repeat of this during the week - the totps 2 performances are much better than the videos on mtv!!
