Psy definitely wins the 'cultural impact' crown - it's been utterly inescapable from the beginning of September onwards, both in clubs and every single house party I've been to (or if not played at least discussed in detail). Even my local barber and queues at CeX have had conversations about it :P

Before then it was probably a tie between Gotye and Carly, maybe fun as well.

Even my 70 year old Dad has heard of 'Gangnam Style'. And when that happens you know it's not just got a degree of cultural impact but a true *phenomenon*.

My top hits of the year might be or might not be made into an EOY countdown soon.

And I might or might not be in the process of making it right now. :kink:

I've probably missed the overrated discussion, but I think everyone on here knows what I think is the most overrated song of 2012!

I don't like your shade. :(

And Jonjo, I honestly can't remember. Is it Spectrum?

Nope. Florence is probs the most overrated artist, but 'Somebody That I Used to Know' is the most overrated song. It actually makes me feel sick :drama:
Call Me Maybe is still amazing!

It's shite!

As for N in Paris....it's nothing but a ramble! Perhaps an alternative title could work which I will not post on here.

"Alone Again" - Alyisa Reid needs to be jailed for crimes against music.

Best single of the year...I don't know...2012 has not been vintage.

Oh. :( Somebody That I Used To Know is one of my favourite songs of the year! :D Oh well, I guess we can't agree on EVERYTHING. :P

Alyisa Reid sounds like an awful person, completely unlike Alyssa Reid.

Ergh I wish 'Just One Last Time' would hurry up and be massive, I'm sick of waiting

I agree! I hope it starts climbing much more once we get into the new year! Brilliant song, one of Guetta's best!

lol. I doubt that's true though. I think the reason they seemed to split up was because Nicole started being "featured" separately on all their songs. And after that her having the entire vocals and music video for Hush Hush Hush Hush was the last straw.

Kimberley Wyatt (another member of PCD) was quoted word for word.

Just going to come in here and state the obvious - the best two hits of 2012 were 'Niggas In Paris' and '212'. Unfortunately for the year in music, both were premiered in 2011.

All my favourite songs from 2012 haven't been released as singles or have just not been successful in the charts:

Frank Ocean - Pyramids

Santigold - Go

Lana Del Rey - National Anthem

Disclosure feat. Sam Smith - Latch (this has done okay I suppose)

Leona Lewis - Glassheart

I think the best "hits" of 2012 are:

Azealia Banks - 212

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know

Rihanna - Where Have You Been

Bruno Mars - Locked Out of Heaven

Most overrated:

Alyssa Reid - Alone Again

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (although I appreciate it's a good novelty record)

Jessie J - Domino

Nicki Minaj - Starships

One Direction - Little Things

Rita Ora - ALL OF HER SHIT SONGS!

Script - Hall of Fame

Will.i.am - This Is Love

I don't get how "Call Me Maybe" is novelty? It's not exactly Mr Blobby or Bob the Builder is it? The video perhaps but not the song itself.

The song is so annoying and irritating, it might as well be a novelty song. :kink:
