Amazing to see such well established acts such as David Bowie and Bon Jovi still having hit singles.

Why can't it be the Pet Shop Boys though? :snif:
It's great to see Bowie and Bon Jovi in the top 10. Just goes to show that the big radio stations like R1 and Capital don't have complete control of what charts.

I expect Bowie to drop off later in the week

Anyone else think 'Rum & Raybans' will be a future number one?

OMG :o David Bowie #2 on iTunes, I just can't believe it, if only the track was allowed to chart in the official chart, that would have been a great #1 this week. Never saw that coming.
Thank god David Bowie can't chart, that means a better chance for Britney to be #1.

No. (and I say that as her Lloyd's resident loon)
BOWIE >>>>>Britney... To be honest and I'm a britney stan. let's be real... it's so UNREAL his new album and single out of the blue! it's number 1 everywhere!!! (the album!)

Bowie is now number 1!!!!!!

Bowie is now number 1!!!!!!

I was DYING to see Brit at number 1... but a BOWIE song will be much more extreme and it would tell me that the world is still PERFECT! but I know it can't chart... so whatever :)

I only mention it as I heard it in our local Walkabout club and I've gotta say it sounded really good!

WELL that's not quite what I expected to see when I opened Itunes! David Bowie preventing Will.i.am from number 1 would be a VERY GOOD start to 2013 and not quite something I ever expected to see  if this does actually sell enough to be number 1 this week and isn't chart elligible, I think that clearly shows that its time to bring this daft rule to a close as its not going against what then chart should be about (what people are buying)

I'd rather copy my opinion from the other thread here too as a reply because I don't entirely agree with you on this. :D

I don't think it's a silly rule. Although you buy that song for example for 99p with the pre-order, BUT you can download the album with a price minus 99p, that would mean, you buy 2 things for one. That would be unfair to count twice although you bought it only once and it would be unfair to the regular singles, songs, albums that chart normally without an offer.

It's another thing that OCC shouldn't be lazy and should count the purchases that aren't part of the offer.

So it will show what people buy, they buy the album, they just have the opportunity to download 1 song earlier. If they buy the album and download the song for the second time too, than it should count as two sales, one for the singles and one for the albums :-)

Next week we hear that the Jam are reforming for an one off single. :teresa: I can only dream.
One more thing: it is really annoying to see your fave song charting high on iTunes and knowing that it won't chart officially. iTunes shouldn't show the sales that are linked to the album offer (as it's a part-purchase of the album), that is shown on the albums chart as a pre-order. iTunes should only list the sales on the songs chart that are actual purchases, in another words not part of the album offer.

This has turned into an exciting week after all (if Bowie can chart that is). Whether it can or not, will/Britney losing the #1 effect could have majorly harmed then if James was still just behind them. They should still get #1 come Sunday though as James is falling quite fast :cheer:

Animal  #69 - Bowie/Bon Jovi who?

David Bowie at #1, AMAZING. Shame it won't stay there, but for the moment it's a http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/disco.gif moment.
How does the pre-order work? If you order the album now, do you pay the 99p now and then the balance when the album is released? Otherwise, what is to stop you cancelling the pre-order and keeping the song for free?

If I remember correctly I had to pay the whole price for Madonna MDNA (and could download Gimme All Your Luvin' immediately), when I pre-ordered it and could download the whole album when released.

For the second one, that is a good question. If you cancel it they might pay you back the balance but not the price for the one song. That would make sense imo.

Odd that we posted that at exactly the same time  Obviously, that's a fair point, but its the song not charting AT ALL when its selling enough to be as high as the top 10/wherever that bothers me. Like you said, they should separate the sales so it at least can chart in its own right...to not chart the song at all when its clearly selling more than many is quite ridiculous.
