Emeli Sande on Graham Norton tonight :D

I wonder what her performance will be like. I'm expecting it to be incredibly raunchy with dancing Clowns etc.

Where Are We Now? #9

Clique  #12 - hopefully it can get to #11 by the time Bowie drops out :o :cheer:

I don't actually think that Emeli Sande performing tonight is a bad idea. If she performs Clown and it goes into the iTunes Top 10, then I'm personally all for it.

And what if it stops Clique getting top 10!?

Fair play to Emeli Sandé. Everyone might sigh at the announcement that Emeli is performing on yet another TV show/event but if that's what it takes these days to sell your album then other artists take note.

I'm surprised Emeli hasn't tried taking her album to the US and do some touring (unless she has and it just hasn't taken off).

You're right, that would be terrible. Let's hope that Clown stalls at #11 instead. :kink:

She did release her album in the USA. It peaked at #28. Don't think she's done much if any promo over there but that's quite poor, Rebecca Ferguson's album got 5 places higher!

I'm all for artists getting slots on tv shows and stuff, but i'd much rather it'd go to someone else, who actually needs it and someone who isn't so dull, but thats personal preference :P newer artists could do with it far more and especially at this time of thr year to help their profile etc.. would it have been hard to get HAIM or something? :(

I agree. It's brilliant for her getting all this promo and it should be a wake up call to artists that don't promote to do the same, but she is literally everywhere now that it's become a joke :drama:

Surely part of the reason that more (British) artists don't promote is largely down to the fact that the industry insists on giving 90% of all promotional slots to the 'chosen ones' year in, year out? I'm sure there are plenty of artists who've tried to get on shows but been rejected because Emeli Sandé/Paloma Faith are paying yet another visit. It's pretty hard for people to "take note" of Emeli and promote more when she's taking up every single slot.

Flo Rida just relies on samples and gimmicks these days.

These days??? His first UK number 1 'Right Now' had a sample so basically he made a career out of sampling other people's songs...

Emeli's album sold more in its début week than Rebecca's, was just unlucky with the release week. Plus it's had better longevity (though still very little ofc) too. I think they tried with Next To Me but it never really happened and then RAAI didn't get the same type of exposure over there because their Olympics coverage was, for want of another word, shite. I imagine they'll try her once she finally releases the UK from her death grip, so they should push her in the US sometime around 2014.

Perhaps, or it could be the other way round - Emeli Sande/Paloma Faith seem to do so much promotion because other acts aren't bothered about appearing on a particular show. Either way, I doubt it's really the artist's fault; you're not going to turn down the chance to promote your album if you get asked.

Great too see Anne Hathaway's version of "I Dreamed A Dream" at #33. My favourite ever rendition.

You really think it's possible that Emeli and Paloma are the only two artists in the UK who feel like promoting their album? I'm not blaming Emeli or Paloma, they're both very hardworking women and the fact that they are so willing to perform is admirable. But I do blame the labels for focusing on the same artists for months on end and ignoring every other artist on their roster. Emeli does not need to promote her album, it's a million seller. Promotional slots would be far better used on people who the UK public hasn't been seeing on TV and hearing on the radio for over a year.

This is a pre-order :kink: Out on Sunday, would be nice to see it do slightly well (haven't got any big expectations for it)

Promotional slots from successful artists are needed though to boost viewing figures. There is a higher chance of the average TV viewer wanting to tune in to see Emeli Sande than Django Django.
