So I'm quite surprised Silver Linings got 8 nominations!

I haven't watched Beasts of the Southern Wild but I'm SO watching that for Quvenzhané alone. She's the youngest ever (9) Oscar nominee.

In a bad way, right? I can't be the only one who didn't get the fuss at all. Happy for Jennifer Lawrence but that's it.

Yay at Life Of Pi having 11 though!

Skyfall only getting nominations for Cinematography and sound Mixing/production/score/adele is ridiculous. Should have at least got a nomination for best picture for once.

I didn't expect Skyfall to get a best picture nom (though it deserves it), but supporting actor for Javier Bardem should've been on the cards. Also best director. Shame.

Hitchcock only ended with one nomination for make-up, which I imagine was a bit of an upset. Very disappointed that Poppy Hill wasn't nominated for best animated film, and that Untouchable didn't get best Foreign Film.

Intouchables is ANCIENT.

What's this 'Silver Linings Playbook' hate?! :drama:

SLP to SLAY EVERYTHING PLEASE. Thanks. (It'll get NOTHING though )

Silver Linings Playbook did absolutely nothing for me. The Academy really are in love with David O. Russell, aren't they? Him over Affleck too? Christ. I do think Amour is one of the best films I've ever seen, although one of the most difficult to watch too. Harrowing. Emmanuelle Riva was stunning but will sadly lose out purely because of the hype that surrounds Jennifer Lawrence. Her performance was rather ordinary, so perfect for the Oscars then.

Tis not hate, more utter open mouthed SHOCK at anyone thinking the performances are Oscar worthy.

TBH, I didn't think it would be up for any Oscar awards or anything like that, so it's a pleasing surprise for me. I do wish it was 'Perks Of Being A Wallflower' instead, getting the commercial indie-lite flick, nod. But I'm not going to complain as I did really enjoy SLP.

So glad that "Amour" got couple of nominations :)

It's really great movie. Moreover its leading actor

hasn't played in any film for about 10 years and yet

managed to make great appearance.

You should check Amour :)

Oh Silver Linings

Jennifer Lawrence has finally WON ME OVER. It says something when she is all i could stare at even when Robert De Frickin Nero and Bradley Hotstuff Cooper were on screen with her. Wow. A little AGOG at the fact it's managed the FOUR acting noms though

I'm having a full all-nighter on Sunday with my friends and will be crying at the very mention of Life of Pi whenever it comes up :snif:

Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone = Incredible.

Silver Linings Playbook deserves nothing, and she'll be up there with some of the worst winners. But she's totes adorbs and the new Meryl etc.

I f***ing HATE her, I do think it's Chastain's to lose though, even if her role was also pretty poor. The only leading actress I was moved by was Naomi, but she has no hope.
I think this year could be like 2006 when no one film swept the boards and picked up more than three Oscars. So many critics and fans alike are predicting different Best Picture winners.

It will be a tough choice for everything. The performances will be good though:

Bond tribute: Dame Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Adele (Includes the nominated song Skyfall)

Musicals: Chicago and Les Miserables casts amongst others (Probably including the nominated song Suddenly)

Tribute to Marvin Hamlish: Barbra Streisand

All the nominated songs will have to be performed, plus a memorium tribute.

Also, the Bond reunion is not happening, or is it?

I caught it last night, and she is perhaps the sweetest thing ever. She was SIX when she filmed it :drama: Definitely going places, unless the industry chews her up.

I'm glad Beasts has get the recognition it deserves, but i think it just falls slightly below most of the others in the categories it's nominated in.
