So the defenders of this excuse for a chart were telling us all week that it would be ridiculous if the Bowie track was excluded from the Official chart. The result? Official Chart - number six. Unoffical chart - not in the top 40

Ahem!

11 (NEW) Where Are We Now? - David Bowie (1 Week)

:kink:

Lawson at #17 when they didn't even make the top 100 officially
Ahem!

:kink:

Oops, missed it even after double checking ;) Even so, I'm sure number six is a fairer reflection of the number of copies it actually sold than number eleven.

I don't actually get how this chart works.

How are Lawson at #17?

I don't understand this chart? How the hell are Lawson at 17 when they missed the T100 and are only in the low 50's on the Itunes chart?

How are Lawson at #17?

Because Lawson are owned by the company that runs the Big Top 40.

a.k.a. The chart is one massive fix.

"The Vodafone Big Top 40 Show is powered by iTunes, but what does that actually mean?

Well, it means that every time you click to download a song from iTunes, Apple track your purchase and use it to produce a list of the fastest selling songs of the moment.

We use this data to build the Vodafone Big Top 40 and because this data is live and compiled in real-time, it means that the Big Top 40 chart is always changing and updating right up until the moment when we lock down the top 10 at 6pm, during the show on a Sunday evening.

Chart positions 40 to 11 are compiled using a mix of iTunes sales data and radio airplay (taking in to account the playlists of the many different stations which The Vodafone Big Top 40 Show broadcasts on). The top ten songs is purely complied from live iTunes sales data. This means that while the show is on air, you can download your favourite songs and influence the chart.

This means that we could play a song and by the time we get to 6pm, when we lockdown the new chart it could have climbed in to the top ten and we'll even play it twice."

In other words they make it up as they go along!

This chart is so pointless its actually stupid to even post it on this forum...

:teresa:

This is the best advert for the official chart that I can think of. Doubt i'll bother with it in the future.
In other words they make it up as they go along!

I was just wondering if this was the case!

I don't actually get how this chart works.

How are Lawson at #17?

It is supposedly made up of the Itunes top 10 (locked down at 6pm) and 11-40 are a combination of Itunes sales and airplay.

However, the fact Lawson are at 17 when they're not even top 40 on Itunes just shows how its all total bollocks. This chart actually makes me angry - if not just for the shite concept of it all (at least Hit40UK made a little bit of sense!), but also that people would actually rather listen to this chart than the official one.

That's the shittest excuse for a chart I've ever seen

So they choose their own stations for the "radio airplay" and doesn't bother with the BBC radio channels. That's going to skew the chart completely considering Radio 1 probably influences a lot of the airplay.

I'm sorry Griff but I don't think you can convince anyone here that this is the better chart!

I agree, this chart just seems pointless.

I'm sorry Griff but I don't think you can convince anyone here that this is the better chart!

Isn't it the most listened to music chart in the UK though? :P

At least it's creating discussion!

Also, what is the point of having a differently calculated top 10 from the rest of the chart. That makes no sense whatsoever.

And what really gets on my nerves is when people (normally some thicko on Facebook) say "Oh such and such is #1", and when I reply saying "No it's not, it's only #3" they bite my head off saying "Well Capital said it was #1 so you're wrong".

I don't think Griff is trying to convince anyone is is the 'better' chart (at least hopefully not) but it does have a right to be discussed here at least as it is the most listened to chart for some unknown reason.
