When has an X Factor artist ever managed to get top 3 with a post album single before? The only one I can think of atm is Better in Time by Leona Lewis, and I guess Little Things by One Direction if that counts. Even the likes of JLS, Alexandra Burke, Olly Murs, etc. have never managed it I think.

My thread will come in handy here :magic:

You are right, 'Better In Time' is the only post-album single by an X Factor artist to make the top 3 unless you count 'Little Things' and also 'Run'.

(Will update that thread next week after Amelia charts).

I heard Change Your Life on the radio recently - I was convinced it was Jessie J singing until the DJ mentioned it at the end

Didn't you hear four different voices on the song? :D

I think Leona is the only one. Olly Murs should have got his 2nd number one with Heart on my Sleeve. Shame it flopped. :(

How many copies did 'Better In Time' lose out to Duffy's 'Mercy'? Wasn't it like 438 copies or something? Might have been less, not too sure. But I remember it being stupidly close!

EDIT: Also, Olly should count as, 'Dance With Me Tonight' peaked 2 (?) weeks after album release, didn't it?

302 copies :D

I disagree, that single was the one the album was released off the back of.

Also, Amelia Lily is #11 but MILES away from the top 10. I really hope it can close that gap. :(

#1 will.i.am/Britney 'Scream & Shout' 116%

#2 Taylor Swift 'I Knew You Were Trouble.' 84%

#3 Bingo Players 'Get Up (Rattle)' 83.5%

#11 Connor Maynard 'Animal' 48%

51. Ellie Goulding- Explosions

Hopefully she can get another hit with this. Would be sensible to push this as the next single, then 'My Blood' then 'Only You' for summer.

I blame whoever was singing/faux-rapping at the beginning of the song, it sounds almost identical to Jessie J.

In other news, YES Bingo Players, might still get number 1 now :D

Wasn't there some controversy about the Duffy/Leona chart battle? I remember something about Leona winning if an EP was counted or something lol.

Dance With Me Tonight was released before the album so doesn't count.

In the whole of 2012 the only post-album releases (I'm defining this as songs that are first available to download at the time of album release, so Titanium, Paradise and I Knew You Were Trouble. don't count) to go top 3 were:

Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do the Hump

Jessie J - Domino

Emeli Sande - Read All About It, Part III

Flo Rida - I Cry

Labrinth - Beneath Your Beautiful

One Direction - Little Things

 48. Ellie Goulding - Explosions

If the advert gets regularly played this week it could get top 75 officially! :D

I think the controversy was that Leona's was the first AA Side ('Footprints In the Sand'), to be released with the digital era, rules. So there were arguments which led to people debating about whether to combine the two songs (FITS got to number 30 or something that week i believe - would have given her a victory) or which track would count as the main A side single. I think they just settled on whichever track was the highest in the end. Shame really. Leona could have done with that number 1 (it was also my favourite from the album). :(

Domino was released as part of a 'special edition' though, so that shouldn't count either. I am confused about your logic of excluding Paradise, Titanium and IKYWT - could you explain it more?

I never realised this was so rare!

Wasn't "Somebody That I Used To Know" post-album in the UK?

It's like She Wolf by David Guetta or Telephone by Lady Gaga or Blow by Ke$ha. They were all from re-releases or special editions of some sort, but were not available to download before the release. Whilst songs like Bad Romance and We R Who We R were available before the re-release EP or whatever came out, so they wouldn't count.

Paradise was a pre-order single, so available to download before the album, and Titanium and I Knew You Were Trouble were promo singles, so were also available to download before the album. Although I think they're all worth a mention.

But yeah, somewhere in the region of 5-9 songs managed it last year. I see people over-estimate the potential of post-album releases a lot on here. It would be incredible if Little Mix ever get a top 3 hit with a post-album release. I think top 10 is a more realistic expectation.

I wasn't sure about that one. On Wikipedia it says STIUTK was released in July, and the album in August, but that might've been different in the UK. It wouldn't have made much of a difference for Gotye either way.

I would count Titanium and IKYWT as while both were released separately prior to the album release, they were only given proper single releases (radio adds, videos etc) post-album. Whereas I'd be reluctant to count Little Things because that had a video and radio airplay prior to release.
