February 24, 201312 yr Its more alternative than it is pop, its around the same lines as Haim, Of Monsters & Men, Gotye, Alex Clare etc. a distinct alternative side, despite not being completely alternative. ANYWAY, its my favourite song of 2013 by a mile, number 1 PLZTHX  Edited February 24, 201312 yr by Chez Wombat
February 24, 201312 yr It's their best song but they're massively overhyped, it's really not *that* good at all.
February 24, 201312 yr Alternative ad mainstream are completely subjective definitions though. When I submitted 'Laura Palmer' into BJSC last year, everyone said Bastille wouldn't get big because they were 'too alternative and/or indie'. Pompeii is in the same vein as Laura Palmer, and I'm fairly sure people just think if a song band/ song gets popular then it's pop and no longer alternative.
February 24, 201312 yr I think when you've been around as long as some of us have (yes, I'm playing the experience card) then you can see what alternative is and what it is not. This is a highly produced, left-field pop song. When I first heard them in Unknown Pleasures I was reminded of James or (bizarrely) The Lightning Seeds.... They may well make something great at some stage and this is a decent start. Edited February 24, 201312 yr by AnthonyT

February 26, 201312 yr It's a pop song masquerading as indie, just like loads of the landfill bands of the 00s. That said, I'd say that they're better than most of those, the covers albums were absolutely excellent and I'm very much loving Pompeii. The Monsieur Adi Remix is especially fantastic/recommended, sounds like Daft Punk! The Kat Krazy Remix has nicked Agnes' strings, also great.
February 26, 201312 yr All I'm saying is mainstream and alternative are subjective terms. I dont think so. They are relative but not subjective.
March 3, 201312 yr Ah well, number two it is then :( Still, that's better than I expected when I first heard it so I will console myself with that thought.
March 4, 201312 yr The album is a bit samey. It's all decent and all the tracks are listenable, but it just seems to drag. 'Pompeii' is definitely the highlight for me though. It's a grower!
March 4, 201312 yr Is it on Spotify yet? If it is, I'm hopefully going to listen to the album tonight! :D

Inclinded to agree. Some good tracks on there, but nothing as catchy as Pompeii that's for sure. Listened 3/4 times now. Love some of the lyrics though, quite meaningful.

I think Icarus is by far the most catchy and is destined to be a single. Also think Oblivion has massive potential aswell. Im glad they refurbed TWLITF and LP. So happy to see them do well though.
March 4, 201312 yr i LOVE Oblivion  it's been used on a couple of TV shows over the last few months so glad to finally have a copy of it
