With Thrift Shop at #1 now, and talking about London Bridge, it makes me think, how many big hits in recent years have had brass instruments in them?

To be honest, I think that 2013 has got off to a pretty poor start music-wise. The majority of the YTD top 10 comprises of big hits from 2012 (which I suppose could only be expected), but I can only see Thrift Shop so far going on to becoming 'classic', and even that was released last year. Every week just seems to have been dead as far as new releases have been concerned. Even the shocking OA/OS releases (JT, David Bowie) have all fallen away within the week.

 

What do you expect, no-one releases anything major in January from an established artist. Buzz/promo single maybe, but not full blown promotion.
