Loads of songs by the likes of 911, Five S Club 7 etc in the early 00s, where a song would enter at no.1 and then plummet.

^I think you can add The Justice Collective to that list of charity songs, I barely remember it now in all honesty.

2010 was a gold mine for these, all of these have pretty much been totally forgotten:

Iyaz - Replay

Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts

Jason Derulo - In My Head

Scouting For Girls - This Ain't a Love Song

Diana Vickers - Once

Both Roll Deep songs

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars - Nothin' On You

Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Disco (Holiday as well)

David Guetta feat. Chris Willis - Gettin' Over You

Shout For England et al - Shout

JLS - both songs (in fact pretty much everything by them except perhaps Beat Again)

Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

Alexandra Burke - Start Without You

Cheryl Cole - Promise This

XFF 2010 - Heroese

A few more from mid-late 00s:

David Sneddon - Stop Living The Lie

U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own

Nelly feat. Tim McGraw - Over & Over

Pretty much everything McFly have done bar perhaps All About You & Star Girl for the extra Chris Moyles promotion.

Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu

Ne-Yo - So Sick

Beyonce - Deja Vu

Westlife - The Rose

Sugababes vs Girls Aloud - Walk This Way

Timbaland - Give It To Me

Leon Jackson - When You Believe

Mint Royale - Singin' In The Rain

Kid Rock - All Summer Long

Jenkins/West/Jones/Gibb - Islands In The Stream

Tinchy Stryder - Never Leave You

Both songs by Pixie Lott

Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor

Jay Z feat. Rihanna & Kanye West - Run This Town

Chipmunk - Oopsy Daisy

Peter Kay et al - Official BBC CIN Medley

2010 was deffo the year of the non-number one. That Iyaz song...was it "Chinese like a melody in my head"?

^^ Shawty's like a melody in my head. ;)

I might be wrong about this one, as I'm from Portugal and my Reception year self didn't register it. But does anyone genuinely remember this anymore? Or is it one of those so-bad-it-becomes-memorable moments? Perhaps even the fact that this was from Eastenders might have made it much more endurable than it otherwise might have become.

I genuinely don't know, hence why I'm asking all these questions.

There is a rather lengthy thread dealing with the concept of a "non number one" which may answer your question in part.......if I can find it.

Thanks. It baffled me. The actor and the song have been forgotten...however it was covered by some failed X-factor audtionees.

Was he really? He went on to star on Heartbeat for five years and even managed a second hit single with the title theme song and everything. And I know for a fact (even though it wasn't shown here) that that series was very popular for quite a long time during its run.

I'm possibly a bit biased with a couple of these but I wouldn't say they were completely forgotten. U2 may be forgotten by the average man on the street but is rightly remembered and held up as brilliant by the rock community (which is a rather wide circle). I think in that respect rock #1s nowadays will struggle to be forgotten in the same way as pop #1s just because there's nowhere near as many so it's a bit of an event when it does happen, whereas a consistent pop act could have a #1 ("Deja Vu" is a good example) that ends up being forgotten by its intended audience in favour of other songs in their back catalogue.

On the whole, I agree with these. But I think 'Start Without You' is well remembered (particularly amongst the gay scene - I hear it in gay clubs all the time) and 'Holiday' I think is fairly well remembered as Radio 1 still play it fairly regularly.

A few more naughties ones:

Akon - Lonley :P

Robbie Williams - Radio

Nelly - My Place

Ja Rule Feat. Ashanti & R Kelly - Wonderful

Shaggy - Angel (Huge at the time, but has got overshadowed by 'It Wasn't Me' when you look back)

Kylie - Slow

The mid-noughties were a great time for completely forgotten #1's, as physical singles sales were at their lowest, downloads were still in their infancy and turnaround at the top was as swift as ever. So it became quite easy for singles to reach the top by way of fanbase rallying, rather than genuine across-the-board appeal. And on the rare occasions such a single came during that time, it would either be flash-in-the-pan/zeitgeisty things like talent show coronation songs or charity songs. I guess James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" might have been the only truly mass-appeal #1 of the mid-2000's.

All three of these are amongst my favourites from respective artists :( Especially Nelly's! So many memories from that time period for me  'Angel' is one of those songs people forget about, because of 'It Wasn't Me'. But when it gets remembered, it's really loved! Kylie is definitely one of her least popular hits and is only known for being a "she should have had a different song at number 1" sort of song.

To illustrate my point, let's just say that their rivalry even extended beyond death and into the Forgotten #1 field! :P

Only if you count the mid-00s as 2005 because 2006 had several classic number 1s.

wut? "Ghetto Gospel" is one of the best-remembered #1s of 2005.

Don't we have a thread about forgotten Top 10 hits from last year? There are a few good suggestions in that thread about forgettable #1s.#

I wouldn't say that Ghetto Gospel or Nasty Girl were forgettable at all!

I'd say that When The Sun Goes Down is one of the least-remembered #1s of the last 10 years compared to others.

"Nasty Girl" and "Wonderful"....both very forgotten songs, again can anyone hum a note of both?

A few from the 1990s:

Peter Andre - "I Feel You" and "Flavour"

Gary Barlow - "Love Won't Wait" and "Forever Love". I heard the latter on the radio a few nights ago!

Spacedust - "Gym and Tonic"....how did that go again?

I just looked at the list of 2006 #1's and, honestly speaking, out of twenty-four possibilities, I could only see at best four titles worth any sort of undeniable classic status. Certainly a much better ration than 2005, but nothing really Earth-shattering.

To be fair I'll list those.

The undeniables:

Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy"

Shakira, "Hips Don't Lie" (feat. Wyclef Jean)

Justin Timberlake, "SexyBack"

Take That, "Patience"

And then there the up-for-debate ones:

Ne-Yo, "So Sick"

Sandi Thom, "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Head)"

Nelly Furtado, "Maneater"

Lily Allen, "Smile"

Razorlight, "America"

My Chemical Romance, "Welcome to the Black Parade"

There's also Fedde Le Grand, which isn't really remembered by Joe Bloggs, but is very much considered a classic within dance music circles.

Tinchy Stryder - Never Leave You

I'd say this isn't forgotten tbh, I still hear people my age play it quite a lot.

Exactly my point. 4 classics makes a great year, in my book.

Plus Maneater
