D4L? Lol, that is possibly one of the worst songs I've ever had the misfortune of hearing. The beat sounds like it came off a casio keyboard and the lyrics are beyond moronic. Horrendous.

lol. Yeah, so many people absolutely hated it. It made a good ring-tone though. :kink:

I have no clue why 'Thrift Shop' is being classed in the same group as this, as far as I know it doesn't have a specific dance routine, just because a song may have humourous lyrics doesn't necessarily make it a novelty song.

Yeah, I agree, I don't see it as novelty, really. It's just a song with humorous/non-sensical/stupid lyrics. To me it's in the same category as stuff like Sexy and I Know It, Candy Shop, Whistle, My Humps, Like a G6, Hollaback Girl, Fergalicious, The Real Slim Shady, Rack City, Tik Tok, etc. (although I prefer it to most of those). They make you laugh, but they're legitimate songs.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are far from novelty, although admittedly this song would never have been a hit if it wasn't for the Internet.

MTE!

Crank That Came out when I was in primary school and I remember teaching loads of my friends how to do it. I'm not even sure if the dance moves had a title; the superman? :P

Stay is coming to Slay the charts. I'd love it to re-peak and get a #2 peak but unlikely.

When Can't Hold Us and Same Love smash people will stop looking at Macklemore as a novelty rapper (hopefully).

I think Can't Hold Us has potential to be a big hit. It sounds so much like something Outkast would do imo.

Gabrielle Aplin set to enter this week at #18/#19 then. I'm so surprised about that, and it's a shame because it's so much better than her John Lewis cover. :(

Err, when did I say that Macklemore was a novelty rapper? I didn't even imply that Thrift Shop was a novelty song...

Same Love needs to smash so badly that it's unreal. Seriously, I'm not joking, if any song could change the attitudes of the world, that song would be Same Love.

The song/video are so beautiful and moving.

It's nice to hear a gay rights anthem like this which isn't so cliched and pretentious (naming no names, of course).

Lady GaGa?

"Born This Way"

I haven't heard Same Love properly but it would be nice if it could smash, not many songs are about same-sex love so would be nice to see a song with this subject matter come up in the chart. Plus Macklemore does not deserve to be a one-hit wonder. Thrift Shop is a great song!

I say she'll enter at maybe #14 at the lowest, it's bound to have loads of EP sales to support it

Well, Frank Ocean's Pink Matter is very good as well, but I'd say that this is the best gay rights song.

-x-

Also,

I think that it will peak from #21-#25. I really don't see how this could be Top 3 with the amount of promotion it has had?

I always KNEW that Please Don't Say You Love me would be a moderate flop, I was baffled when I saw people saying that it was heading for the Top 3.

Born This Way is definitely cliched but it's not pretentious in the slightest (unlike a lot of the rest of the album). It's so blatantly NOT trying to be anything other than an equality anthem
Same Love HAS to smash  It might be a while though, Thrift Shop looks like it'll smash for ages yet.

I'm not too worried yet, official release isn't until March 4th. I'm expecting this to go the same way as 'Blow', but if it can somehow do better I'll be delighted.

Hopefully Radio 1 playlist it this week.

Avicci must be selling bucket loads as I fully expect thrift shop to do around 85-90 k at least so we could be getting our first 100k plus first week new entry!!

Also about little mix-if they haven't made the top 10 already then it's because it's just an okay song it's not as if they aren't getting the MTV plays and it's radio1 alisted...should do better!!

On another note, fun. are still only #163 with 'Why Am I The One'. Their release schedule is so strange here, it baffles me that Radio 1 blanked 'Carry On' (which surely got higher on iTunes after they performed 'We Are Young' on X Factor than WAITO has with airplay?) and yet have had this playlisted for a few weeks now. I imagine now that 'Carry On' is smashing in the US the next move will be to re-release it over here (at which point it will inevitably smash) but I don't get why they decided they'd shove a random flop in between that and 'Some Nights'.
Oh my god! Didn't realise 'When I Was Your Man' was so high, but I hope it keeps climbing - absolutely stunning song, easily the best I've heard from Bruno.

R1 did playlist 'Carry On'.
