February 19, 201312 yr The Wanted on the other hand have only really had 1 hit single and a very small selling album (less than 100k). Slightly pedantic of me to point out, but their album has sold over 100k. Its sales total was 172,955 in early January. (Source: http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=4171610#p4171610 ) Your point still stands though, it's nothing compared to 1D.
February 19, 201312 yr I think the The Wanted v One Direction thing will happen for The Saturdays and Little Mix. Both will probably blow up, but Little Mix will have much more success; The Saturdays will just have mediocre success.
February 19, 201312 yr I think Olly is probably the only one who WILL have long term success. His sound is very distinct and he's pretty much the master of his genre. His material is very radio friendly, he's got a very British image and is a likeable and charismatic performer. I think he should go with 'Thinking Of Me' or 'Please Don't Let Me Go' as his next single as his current album doesn't really have any stand out hits on it for me.
February 19, 201312 yr How can Little Mix even think of hitting it big in America when they barely get by in their own turf? But then, stranger things have happened.

All the reasons you mention below are why he's doing so well in the UK. And these are some of the reasons I fear he won't do well in the US. I'm not so much worried about his image, but more about the sound - he'll run into the same problem that Robbie Williams faced a decade ago in the States. In the UK, artists aren't as pigeonholed as they are on US radio.
February 19, 201312 yr Author I think the The Wanted v One Direction thing will happen for The Saturdays and Little Mix. February 19, 201312 yr Am I the only one who thinks that the Sats project will be a big fat flop? It started off with a bang (Jay Leno and The Today Show boosting the song just outside the top 100 on iTunes and the documentary getting just under a million viewers) then they left the country and stopped promoting and now the song is at #1339 and the documentary is getting about 300,000 viewers. If they move their arse and actually promote themselves then they might stand a chance. (the song isn't sent to radio for another month, too, which is madness)
February 19, 201312 yr Cher Lloyd?! And Lights by Ellie Goulding. It was a flop in its own country, but in the US it ended up the biggest hit of the year (after the "big 3" and Payphone). I think Olly Murs could do well in the US, since he has crossover appeal there to the adult contemporary audience (similar to Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5), which is a big market there. And even rhythmic if he re-releases Heart Skips a Beat. Maybe if The Saturdays are sending the song to radio next month it's perhaps because they've got more promotion planned for next month. It can be bad for their careers sometimes if they spend too much time in the US too. I feel people like Jay Sean, Taio Cruz and Craig David (especially the latter!) got some backlash for focusing on the US too much. Whilst someone like Jessie J did it better, she got hits in the US but it still felt like she was everywhere in the UK during that time. Edited February 19, 201312 yr by Eric_Blob
February 19, 201312 yr Someone here has spoken of Olly's success in the US probably being a flash in the pan. I'd say even 1D and The Wanted aren't yet secure from falling into that category. And really, bar Coldplay, what other UK acts have had consistent US success in the last 15-to-20 years? Rod Steward, Radiohead, Sting....
February 19, 201312 yr I think he should go with 'Thinking Of Me' or 'Please Don't Let Me Go' as his next single as his current album doesn't really have any stand out hits on it for me. 'Hey you beautiful' from his latest album sounds like a better version of Maroon 5's One more night, and i'm sure will be a huge international hit if released and promoted....

February 20, 201312 yr Author Anyone any idea on Lawson are coming Stateside? Thanks for the list Eric, that's quite a decent add for both Lego House and Little Mix.
February 20, 201312 yr The Saturdays have charted #100 in Slovakia! Its official, theyre coming to the US to slay your faves!!!
February 20, 201312 yr Rod Steward, Radiohead, Sting.... Rod Stewart and Sting aren't exactly what I had in mind - it was more about acts which made their first impact/debut in that period of time.. And Sting's success in the US in the last 20 years has been quite variable. One day he has his best-selling album ever (Ten Summoner's Tales), the next he has a flop (Mercury Falling) and then he rebounds but only after a computer ad (Brand New Day). Since then, his presence in the US mainstream has been pretty much non-existent. Thanks for Radiohead, I was forgetting about them.
February 20, 201312 yr I see nothing good happening for the Saturdays... anything associated with E! just reminds me of: ak6LYujaOO8 So much for that. Little Mix, they need epic single choices for the USA, obviously "Wings" and IMO "Stereo Soldier". No ballads, I repeat NO BALLADS. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble with the next announcement: Union J will not do anything in the USA, I sincerely doubt anyone will care in the UK... but I said the latter about JLS and look where that got me.
February 20, 201312 yr Author "Beat again" remains one of my favourite X Factor contestant's original songs.
February 24, 201312 yr Author Emeli's album is top 20 on US iTunes (selling for 7$) and "Next to me" jumped from the 100s to a new iTunes peak of 68.

For me their career is dead, they officially announced that their new american single will be all time low, single from 2010 :o They released only 2 songs last year, and their new album is something like Her name is Nicole one delay, second delay, third delay, they are unable to sold out their concerts( and they play in very small arena). I'm pretty sure that their record label will drop them this or next year.
