February 27, 201312 yr And on a slightly different note, what about those current/very recent tracks that in years to come people will think got to no. 1 when they didn't. I think: Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (need I say more?) Nicki Minaj - Starships Jay Z & Kanye West - Niggas In Paris (obviously people on here will disagree but for the general public, this has been all over the clubs and referenced a lot on FB, Twitter etc so I think many would assume this went to #1). Emeli Sande - Read All About It, Part III (due to the overexposure of the song, many wouldn't even know it wasn't an actual single) Bruno Mars - Locked Out of Heaven Ed Sheeran - The A Team One Direction - Live While We're Young Lady GaGa - Born This Way Edited February 27, 201312 yr by SceneofSIXCrimes
February 27, 201312 yr I presumed that the following were #1: Robbie Williams - Angels (4) Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles (6)
February 27, 201312 yr One Direction - Live While We're Young Unless you mean people will assume this was a short-lived fanbase #1, I don't see why this would be anywhere near a 'song people think got to #1'?
February 27, 201312 yr Unless you mean people will assume this was a short-lived fanbase #1, I don't see why this would be anywhere near a 'song people think got to #1'? I think it's more of an example of "a song that people who don't follow the charts thought was #1" rather than an example of a song that was so big it could be mistaken for a #1. To clarify, it was 1D's "big" anticipated lead single and was played non stop on radio and music channels plus it IS 1D so people would assume it made #1. February 27, 201312 yr A few months back, I was surprised to learn Dusty Springfield's I Only Want to Be With You was only a #4 hit. I guess the general public would think songs like Summer of '69, 9 to 5 and Goldfinger had reached number one.
March 5, 201312 yr Another one: Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom Always on the music channels when I was younger and it seems like a modern-day classic with indie/pop clubs still playing it.
March 5, 201312 yr YES. That's a very good example. I know a lot of people who still like Stacy's Mom as well. :D What about In Da Club? :o A lot of people would have expected that song to go to #1.
March 5, 201312 yr Samantha Mumba - "Gotta Tell You" - was shocked this was #2 Dido - "White Flag" - Considering it's her most known song, it's a shock this was not #1 Tina Turner - "The Best", "Private Dancer" and "What's Love Got To Do With It" - I thought these were all huge #1s - shocked "Private Dancer" did not make top 20 :(
June 19, 201312 yr Ke$ha's Tik Tok seemed like an obvious #1 to me. Appearently it stalled at #4 in it's 9th week 6-6-7-7-7-5-11-10-{4}-8-12-14-16-18-23-29-31-36-38-38-41-38-41-51-53-62-62-75
June 20, 201312 yr YES. That's a very good example. I know a lot of people who still like Stacy's Mom as well. :D Well she *was* pretty fit.. :P
June 20, 201312 yr Well she *was* pretty fit.. :P I was so confused when watching that video at the time. I always thought the daughter was more attractive.
June 20, 201312 yr The big one for me was Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind Part II". It was EVERYWHERE at the time of release, but surprisingly only peaked at #4.
June 20, 201312 yr Son of a Preacher Man - only got to 9? 'I Only Want to Be With You' is another Dusty Springfield release which I'm surprised didn't top the charts, but it is definitely more so for 'Son of a Preacher Man' which I think was revealed to have sold almost 200k on downloads alone earlier this year! :o

June 20, 201312 yr LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It PJ & Duncan - Let's Get Ready to Rhumble  It seemed to be everywhere in the summer of 1994, although I guess just because they were that ubiguitous on kids telly. It only got to #9! Isn't hindsight a funny thing? Edited June 20, 201312 yr by Stackin Them P'S
June 20, 201312 yr And then they go and perform it just weeks later - that is terrifying yet awesome :D Now I just need to wait until 'Set You Free' and/or 'Common People' finally get the #1s they deserve and my life is complete!
