How is the playlist selected?

The Playlist Committee, made up of producers and chaired by Jeff Smith, Head of Music Radio 2, meet each week to decide which new releases will be added to the station's playlist.

The playlist contains about 30 tracks which are divided into three levels: A list which receives the most plays, between 15 and 20 per week; B list between 5 and 10 plays and up to 5 plays per week for the C list.

The Radio 2 playlist is one of the most varied of any radio station in the UK and can include albums as well as singles. Before any track can be considered it must be commercially available or be within 3 weeks of commercial availability.

Bit late adding Jake Bugg's Lightning Bolt to the playlist! Nice to see Bon Jovi as single of the week - I guess the 11 March is the release date of the CD?

One day, in the far far future, Before He Cheats will finally become a UK hit. Probably not this time, or the next time, or the one after that. But some much needed exposure on X Factor 2024 should finally seal the deal.
Great to see Carrie playlisted, but very strange song choice even though it is brilliant!

This is possibly the worst playlist I've ever seen.

Please elaborate....

I'd say it's possibly the best I've ever seen. Very diverse, and all fantastic music (it just needs Hurts to be perfect).

Everyone should give this a listen

Indeed they should... and then vote for it :kink:

http://www.dingsme.info/avatar8.jpgWhat the hell? This is THREE ALBUMS AGO from her!
Please elaborate....

It comes down to not liking a single tune or artist (with the exception of Sinead O'Connor) in the playlist.

I supposedly fit into the Radio 2 demographic, this playlist could not be further from my musical tastes. All the playlist seems to include is generic, MOR blandness. How can anyone with any musical taste listen to this station?.

I understand I am too old for Radio 1, but I at least can pick a few tunes from their playlist that I like.

I'll stick to 6Music thanks.

I like pretty much everything on this playlist :D and like very little on the Radio 1 playlist, which is supposed to appeal to someone my age.

I'm the same. Come on, Dido and Stereophonics A listed-what's not to love? I couldn't even hum most of the Radio 1 playlist since most tracks are forgettable and a bit current for this 24 year old who is still supposedly in their target audience.

Dido and the Phonics >>> all of the R1 playlist (most of which I have never heard)
Omg omg omg omg the SECOND BEST SONG EVER  Obviously Before He Cheats ftr, it might be from an album that came out almost 8 years ago (:o) but anything that has the second best song of all time getting a bit of exposure is totally fine by me. Radio 2 I LOVE YOU [/stanmode]
