I personally feel as the Radio 1 playlist thing is stupid. There are loads of brilliant songs on their playlist that no one would give a shit about unless it was shown to a wider audience!

Perhaps JUST PERHAPS everyone could start sending something TRULY obscure and we can abolish the vetoing system ALTOGETHER? :o

If I do enter XLIV I would want the right to withdraw from the competition without penalty if it does turn into a right cheap fest.

BTW I have no problem with the veto schedule. I think that's not a bad idea so at least everyone knows where they stand.

I just find the lack of mod veto for XLIV to be silly.

You don't GET much bigger than being on the radio 1 playlist!

I don't think anyone would send in something very cheap as it'd most likely be "veto'd"by the public by not giving it points

But if everyone bar 10 people sent in cheap entries, and you didn't like any of the 10 inspired entries, would you give those 10 entries points just to prove a point?

Even if I think a song isn't inspired, I will give it points if I love it. An example being "Like Home" last contest. With Nervo recently doing well, Nicky Romero recently having a UK #1 to his name and the song due to have a UK release, I thought it was a cheap entry but I still gave it 10 points.

Yeah I agree, I will just give points to a song I love. I didn't really agree with Tone being allowed through last time but I still gave it like 6 points in the final because it's a damn good song!
In general I tend to not give points to/give much less points to a song I already knew and loved beforehand. It's not always the case of course, but I like making new discoveries through the contest not re-affirming my love for something I already enjoy.
After thinking about it, I may actually send something in the next one that probably would get vetoed, but isn't "cheap" in any way.

An album track off an artist that flopped with their last album

But yes, like I said I hope no-one goes uber cheap with chart-topping songs from the past few weeks!

I'm sooo sending something from Heartbreak On Hold!

I'm with Joseph and Thermometer, I will still give points to song I love whether I knew it before or not. However if it's a particularly tough contest, I'm likely to knock them down and favour the discoveries I made over them. Last contest, Smash still got my 12 because there weren't really any other songs I loved enough for it.

Between The Sheets

Hmmm. I really think and hope that these new rules don't drastically change what people are going to send. I mean Alexandra is a big enough artist for people to check out her music if they wanted to (sorry, i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not with regards to her). It would turn into quite a sour contest if half kept true and stuck to real under-the-radar artists and the other half went for big artists with slightly less known songs. I think i'd be inclined to vote for the brand new discoveries like John said if it was a tussle between two.

I am interested to see what happens, but i hope the spirit of the contest stays the same, and people do still go out of their way to introduce unknown music for everyone else.

I'm pretty sure he wasn;t being serious

One of the main reasons why we're doing this is to give everybody a bit of a break. There's no point continuing the process if the whole thing is going to descend into chaos each month. The goal of this suspension isn't "watch people send crap and you'll see why you need us", it's to do with maintaining the quality of the experience of the contest. We're willing to sacrifice the veto for one month while we write a framework which explains the complexities of the veto process. You know yourselves that it's not an easy process and we're just a bit at a loss as to how we can explain things better. It'll take us a while because we're all quite busy, so without the veto process we can focus on the framework and have it ready for LV.

On a different note: What you send next contest is up to you. Personally (and I'm not speaking on behalf of the team here), I'd encourage people to just treat it like any other month, probably because I remember what the contest was like back in 08/09 when it was more or less a free-for-all and everybody knew before the semi finals were even up who was going to win.

I'm gonna have to disagree here, Radio 1 playlist plenty of acts that have no success elsewhere. I would say you don't get much bigger than being on the Capital playlist but anyone sending something off there is pretty dumb :P

(Also Roses Gabor was on the R1 playlist and got through fine )

Surely there should be some rule, It will be hilarious if someone tries to send a song that's currently smashing right now!
I hope that nobody does end up doing that, I'd imagine the moderators trust us enough not to totally take the piss and that's why this veto suspension is happening. Whether or not someone breaks that and sends Demi Lovato - Heart Attack is another story...

If someone sends Heart Attack, Just Give Me A Reason, What About Us or anything like that I would delete them out of contention for points straight away. Sending a big hit achieves absolutely nothing and I'm sure there will be good inspired songs clamouring for my points like there are every month.

Although if one person does end up doing that it would be tres amusing if everyone followed my example and it DNQed. Less so if people made it win.
