April 15, 201312 yr To be honest the realistic worldwide single choices are Right Now Nobody's Business Jump It's likely to be one of them Jump would be by far the best move imo, even if its riskiest (fresh, different, well produced) The other two are better off left on the album (RN is terrible; NB is just not a good move)
April 15, 201312 yr I'm not defending the song or anything, but did it not chart in the top 40 when the album was released? I don't think any other song on the album did... So? There's loads of brainless pop fans out there who just downloaded it because it's the most "easy on the ears" song on the album. That song is a melody, nothing more. It's like a nursery rhyme with some synths in the background. I really hope she releases something more interesting as a single. Something like Jump or Numb, those songs have like a dozen different things going on, you can listen to them and focus on a different instrument each time.
April 15, 201312 yr Not her best work, but I voted T10 anyway, simply because it *is* Rihanna, after all...
April 15, 201312 yr Not her best work, but I voted T10 anyway, simply because it *is* Rihanna, after all... She's had 4 singles miss the top 10 in the last 2 years alone...
April 15, 201312 yr Yes the release is the same as 'Stay' but its treatment is not the same at all. This song is basically an urban US single (where it smashed hugely) which is being released in the UK to fill the gap between 'Stay' and the next worldwide single. And this is basically because Stay rose very early in the UK (because of an X Factor final performance). I don't think anybody expects it to do well here, so it's inevitable flop won't be a surprise or shame. That's why people will "downgrade it" like you say. It reached no 19 in the US so didn't really smash hugely. And Capital also have it playlisted now so it's getting a fair amount of exposure, so no reason for it to flop, other than the fact that people may not like it.
April 15, 201312 yr And Capital also have it playlisted now That is true, but they are not playing it as often as We Found Love, Diamonds and Stay - which could hurt Pour It Up's success. The song is too urban for Capital to be giving it massive levels of exposure. As much as I love the song I think Rihanna's record label should just move on ASAP because it's flopping.
April 15, 201312 yr She's had 4 singles miss the top 10 in the last 2 years alone... ..She's had more singles go top 10 then those that have missed top 10 so voting top 10 makes more sense if looking at previous single performance. However actually thinking about 'Pour It Up' in particular, I can't see it doing incredibly well, depends if she can create some hype around it, like a controversial video or a new featured rapper. April 15, 201312 yr However actually thinking about 'Pour It Up' in particular, I can't see it doing incredibly well, depends if she can create some hype around it, like a controversial video or a new featured rapper. 1 - Pour It Up is very unlikely to get a video, as it's not getting a US release. Similar to Talk That Talk's situation, that flopped too. 2 - There already is a version with not one but FOUR featured rappers (Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Juicy J and T.I) So yeah, looks like there's nothing they can do to save Pour It Up :(
April 15, 201312 yr For people who didn't see it, Haus posted this fake video for 'Pour It Up' posted by the fake account RihananVEVO claiming the song has an official video. X13Xp9MpUlk Not letting you get away with that one just because you have no edit line :heehee:
April 15, 201312 yr Right Now isn't really an "obvious" single (maybe if it was 2011 it would've been). Pure pop fans love it obviously, but the rest of the general public don't seem very enthusiastic about the song. In the US, out of the album tracks, Loveeeeeee Song is doing best, by FAR, in sales, airplay and streaming. But releasing that now could be rather messy. Nobodies Business, now that DOES have hype around it. It's one of Choice FM's most played songs in the UK, and it went top 50 on the rhythmic airplay chart in the US too. Right Now was the most downloaded 'Unapologetic' album track internationally, u could check kworb, it was a hit everywhere and still is charting high in some countries including France and Belgium, so yes, even if i don't like it, it will be a big hit and it's an obvious choice... Loveeeeeee Song is lame and flopped in the US saleswise and only charted due to high R&B/rhythmic airplay.... 'Nobodies Business' could be a huge hit for her also due to the Chris Brown association and the fact that it sounds like the best song Michael Jackson never recorded, along with Chris Brown's 'Fine China'....
April 15, 201312 yr "Miss the T100"? I was about to moan and point out that it's at #94 currently, but someone beat me too it. I'm a big fan of Rihanna and 'Unapologetic', so it's a shame to see "Pour It Up" looking to under-perform. I'd hoped that it could at least reach the top 40, which I don't think is out of the question if they decide to make a music video or if other radio stations jump on board. If we compare it to "Talk That Talk" - both have R1 support, neither had a music video. Bar a Jay-Z feature, did "Talk That Talk" get any particular promotion? Did other radio stations jump on board?

Yes, but Vidcapper was suggesting it would go Top 10 by default just because it was Rihanna. In reality, in the download era NO-ONE is really guaranteed a hit with a post-album single, especially Rihanna who has actually had a bigger share of flops than most other major stars (in the last 2 years she's been averaging out at only 50% of her singles going Top 10). Right Now was the most downloaded 'Unapologetic' album track internationally, u could check kworb, it was a hit everywhere and still is charting high in some countries including France and Belgium, so yes, even if i don't like it, it will be a big hit and it's an obvious choice... And 'Pour It Up' charted higher than 'Stay' the week the album was released, and look how they've performed in the long run. You can't use it as any guide. 'Right Now' most likely just got relatively high downloads because of the David Guetta credit, but it's probably not going to pull in many casual fans since the dance-pop craze has fizzled out.
April 15, 201312 yr The album has not one real standout track whatsoever, she needs to go back to the drawing board basically.
April 16, 201312 yr If we compare it to "Talk That Talk" - both have R1 support, neither had a music video. Bar a Jay-Z feature, did "Talk That Talk" get any particular promotion? Did other radio stations jump on board? She performed 'Talk That Talk' on Jonathan Ross if I remember correctly.
April 16, 201312 yr 1 - Pour It Up is very unlikely to get a video, as it's not getting a US release. getting to No 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 is hardly a flop
April 16, 201312 yr That song is a melody, nothing more. It's like a nursery rhyme with some synths in the background. That didn't stop "What's My Name" getting to number one....

Remember she is releasing a lot more music than other major stars, song after song at such a rapid pace. When you think of Rihanna you think of Success. It overshadows her 'flops' ('singles' flopping primarily due to not being pushed as real singles). The album has not one real standout track whatsoever, she needs to go back to the drawing board basically. Diamonds and Stay have done incredibly well though, and are two of Rihanna's best songs. I agree with the rest of the album though, nothing else stood out for me. Edited April 16, 201312 yr by Karma
