April 18, 201312 yr This layout simply just doesn't work for a group discussion such as the "K-Pop Appreciation Thread" surely? It's neither a single NOR an album. Neither would it work for a thread where it's based solely on an artist and not a specific release either.
April 18, 201312 yr I think K-Pop's clearly a special case and the rules don't apply there. But you could, instead of putting every K-Pop release in there, start new threads for big singles under the current format.

April 18, 201312 yr Ah I see, thank you for informing this! @Iz Unless it's a big release by PSY or 2NE1 there really isn't a point as it'll get less than 4-5 replies. The K-Pop thread is good for this as we can keep it constantly flowing thus I strongly discourage the use of individual threads for K-Pop releases in general.
April 18, 201312 yr Not for all releases, but I definitely think SNSD and 2NE1 could support their own threads! Plus I feel as if making individual threads will attract people more than the general discussion currently does. If you start a thread for Brown Eyed Girls or whatever, I think people are likely to pay more attention than they would to a General K-Pop bump. But maybe I'm biased because BEG = life.
April 18, 201312 yr It simply doesn't apply much. I tried with a Girls' Generation thread and well...not entirely sure it drew enough response to keep the topic going whereas the K-Pop Appreciation Thread always have discussions flowing nearly everyday!
April 18, 201312 yr And more topics = good. SNSD, 2NE1, PSY should definitely be getting their own threads at this stage. Even if it gets 2 replies it's better than all in one thread because people browsing the forum looking for opinions on that single will easily see a topic about that very song. Long unwieldy threads put people off.
April 18, 201312 yr At most I'll do an artist thread for 2NE1 and PSY. SNSD already have their own thread and I just won't make new threads for each new release they do because it's far more frequent than Western artists.
April 18, 201312 yr That's not strictly true! 'I Got A Boy' was ages ago. If you treat their singles like western singles, they have them about as often a lot of the time. I mean since 'I Got A Boy' was released we've had two Calvin Harris singles (random example) and there's no sign of new SNSD, is there?
April 18, 201312 yr Wouldn't creating individual threads be better for search results? IDK, maybe it could help to attract more K-pop fans?

I mean since 'I Got A Boy' was released we've had two Calvin Harris singles (random example) and there's no sign of new SNSD, is there? SNSD had a bundle of release. A new live tour DVD out, a remix album (which frankly speaking, no-one gives a damn about including me) and now they're having a comeback soon in Korea. Each member also has their solo activity songs known as OST for drama soundtracks (K-Pop ballad which no-one would appreciate here really). There's just far too much to make an individual thread for every release of theirs. Not to mention, what's the point if the only people commenting on the actual topic are those from the K-Pop thread itself! It's not attracting anyone new really. Wouldn't creating individual threads be better for search results? IDK, maybe it could help to attract more K-pop fans? For the last part, I highly doubt people would stumble across a SNSD thread, watch the release or video and post a comment on it if they weren't aware of K-Pop in the first place. K-Pop is really united and once you become one, you sorta know the release schedule off the top of your head so this method would only work for non K-Pop fans who come across it randomly in the first place.
April 18, 201312 yr I definitely think the K-Pop thread for general discussion is a good idea, but 2NE1, SNSD and PSY for example do certainly deserve their own thread. As Iz said, more topics can only be good.

OK well you don't need to give everything a thread, obviously stuff like tour DVDs can go in their general thread / K-Pop general. However, I definitely think new albums and comeback singles should be given threads. It can't hurt to try, at least?
April 18, 201312 yr Considering SNSD have their own thread and I've tried with PSY's Gangnam Style, I'll try for 2NE1 and possibly the next GG comeback to see how it goes! ^_^
April 18, 201312 yr Is Griff for real in this thread :manson: Thread title standardisation is surely something you can only be POSITIVE or NEUTRAL about. (I am the former. Yay order!)
October 16, 201311 yr In regards to this new 'trial' thing with the artist forums, is this not just going to detract attention from them as opposed to make people visit them more? Threads are continually posted in the pop forum before being locked/moved to the appropriate artist forum as it is, so will it make much difference in the long run?
October 16, 201311 yr Author In regards to this new 'trial' thing with the artist forums, is this not just going to detract attention from them as opposed to make people visit them more? Threads are continually posted in the pop forum before being locked/moved to the appropriate artist forum as it is, so will it make much difference in the long run? When we were discussing this, there were a few of us that thought exactly this. On the other hand some of us thought how many of us actually visit artist forums unless we're a proper fan? Everyone will have opinions on these big releases however as the topics are hidden in artist forums, many people do not visit them. For example the 'Diamonds' topic only has 9 pages in the Rihanna forum but I'm sure there are more people who would have replied if more people knew about it or were encourage more to post in it. Therefore by advertising these artist forums at the top of pop forum topics, we hope that it will end up resulting in more people being aware of and using the artist forums, and those people won't just be the proper fans but more casual fans too.
October 16, 201311 yr This was suggested by Rooney, and agreed to by us, and personally although I was/am apprehensive about the idea, it's true that newer or less established members might just not know that the forums exist, and this could remedy that. It's what a trial is for, we can't knock it until we try it a couple of times and see what might happen in the way of effects for both sides of this.
October 16, 201311 yr And it'll be a lot better for feedback from people who don't really rate the songs but want to express their opinion on it, without getting mobbed by the stans and without having a biased view on things. I quite like the idea, personally, just as long as it's for pre-album single releases. If people want to discuss the upcoming album and post album releases, they can just follow the links that have very neatly been put in the first post of the topics.
October 16, 201311 yr Personally, i think a better way of giving access to Artist Forums would surely to give a sub-forum link from its genre. i.e. Katy Perry and The Saturdays etc. would be linked from Pop forum at the top as a sub-forum. Surely that would be move effective than the placing of the Archived Artist Forums being there?
