I do hope that Ministry of Sound learn some lessons from Chris flopping

1 - don't hold back your releases for an absolute age, this is why Need U didn't pass 100k first week, this is why Chris Malinchak is missing the top 3

2 - put your songs up for streaming

3 - don't advertise a song with a great vocal then at the last minute change the vocalist

For the record I do quite like the new vocals, but I can see why some people are put off by them.

^^ Exactly right there's only so many who will preorder a song then wait a month to get it, songs should be released straight away so someone can buy it when they like it, if its good enough it will rise to no1

This old chestnut again. Not every song gets that chance, radio are very quick to drop songs off playlists if they don't grow fast enough, hence why it's a strategy that doesn't work for every single release.

He's hardly flopping. We're looking at a top 3 entry for a debut single behind 2 huge sellers

Top 5 is hardly flopping :P Although admittedly I did expect it to easily be top 2, if not #1 because of Daft Punk.

Flopping was an exaggeration  But I was expecting an easy #2 with sales similar to Duke Dumont's. It could've happened had they released it a few weeks earlier.

Personally, it makes no difference to me if songs get held back, as I virtually never hear new stuff until it hits the charts anyway (I don't listen to the radio, as the inane drivel of DJs drives me to distraction! :( )

130. Gamu - Shake the Room

165. Noah & The Whale - There Will Come a Time

484. Fergie, Q-Tip & GoonRock - A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)

767. Knife Party - EDM Death Machine

Gabrielle's pretty much #41, as there are five duplicates versions above her (I Need Your Love, Just Give Me a Reason, Radioactive, Waiting All Night and So Good To Me), and then with EP sales, pre-orders and physicals, she's easily top 40. :cheer:

Ministry Of Sound don't put their songs up for streaming?! :manson:

And I think that they just released it too late, a week or two ago would have been fine. Almost all the hype surrounding the song has gone now though.

And I agree with Silver Rocket - you can't put every song up for OA/OS, a lot of songs would suffer because of that. The current system we have at the moment is fine, even if it is slightly flawed.

That might've been true a few years ago, but I really don't think it's true now. We've seen so many songs grow from having no interest to storm to the top of the charts, and radio stations generally understand that a song that debuts at a low chart position does not necessarily mean the song is going to flop in the long run.

The bottom line is that record company execs are kidding themselves if they seriously think people are going to wait around for weeks to buy a song legally, when they're able to get immediately for free. The ONLY time not releasing OA/OS makes even a bit of sense is for fanbase acts like the Saturdays and McFly, where they might be willing to get less overall sales (because holding back a song always results in less overall sales) if it means a higher peak position, because they have such rabid fans that they'd be willing to download it legally even if they already had the song purely to help them get a good chart position -- but for someone anonymous like Chris Malinchak who doesn't have any loyal fans, even people who like the song aren't going to give a shit about helping him get a good chart position so aren't going to be downloading it this week if they already have it, so it makes no sense whatsoever.

 175. Mariah Carey - #Beautiful (feat. Miguel)

THIS SONG! So understated but such a grower because of that. Really, really loving it now.

 to #98 now! I hope that it can become a decent sized hit in the UK. It's a really nice track and would love to see both Miguel & Mariah charting in the UK.

I think it's still a bit early to assume it won't be. I could see it continuing to gain for most of the week. There have been plenty of songs that seemed to be underperforming at this stage but kept gaining for ages.

Good to see Armin in the top 10 even if it's not his best work. He definitely deserves to have at least one top 10 hit to his name.

P!nk is now the highest female lead act at just #13, with Little Mix at #19 being the only other in the entire top 20 (unless you count AlunaGeorge at #17, being a female/male duo) :o There is male domination in the chart quite often but I think this is the most dominated I've ever seen it. #21 and #22 are also male.

I'd still contend that the majority of people who illegally download a song will do so whether the song is On Air/On Sale or not.

Thieves will be thieves.

But they're more likely to do it if it's not available legally when they want it. I try to download things legally when I can, but I'm sure as hell not going to wait patiently in line for weeks until the record label says I can buy it legally when alternatively I can get it right now!

I'm the same. I don't want to wait weeks for a song when it's already out in other countries. I just get it for free and by the time it does come out I don't feel like buying it because I already have it.

Mariah  to #88 now.
