I've never understood why people pre-order singles and EPs from iTunes. It's not like iTunes are going to run out of stock on release.

I agree with this. I also don't see the point in waiting until midnight to buy a song either, it will be there for the rest of time to buy whenever you want.

I guess the sooner you buy the song the quicker it will rise on itunes and more people will notice it.

But surely people buy songs because they *like* them, not just because they are climbing the charts...

Because the label probably don't give a shit about where the single peaks :P The idea behind their strategy is probably to spread out the single's exposure for as long as possible -- which, because they probably realise the single doesn't really have a chance of challenging for the #1 spot, they probably don't care about getting a relatively low peak if it means the single hangs around on radio longer and (ideally) would sell more copies of the album in the long term.

Yeah, I think it's a good strategy as well, although it will be interesting to see if he can carry it off for a long time after this era.

True, but then there is the iTunes 'top 10 effect' whereby those tracks are given a higher profile.

But that wouldn't make them sell *more*, just sooner.

15. Paramore - Still Into You

I'm still into this!!! It will be their biggest hit in U.k!!

This was my answer to that and you overlooked it:

Good questions. With albums I saw some promotions, like you get a song if you pre-order it, or you can get it a bit cheaper.

I would add to that, it's an information, when the song gets released. If you pre-order it, you get an e-mail, that it is now available, so you can download it as soon as possible. Some fans would use that surely.

I think it already is.

I'm not sure sales-wise but obviously it's their longest top 40 entry.

Considering it's up to #15 now though it will probably last a few more weeks and will definitely become their best-selling/highest peaking single.

I heard Still Into You when I was out last night, the only thing from the last two years to be played other than Pompeii. Hopefully that points to it climbing further.
Hopefully Paramore gain next Sunday as their Radio 1's big weekend performance is being showing. Top 10 would be delightful for Still Into You.

 27. Tich - Dumb

:ne: 538. Tich - Breathe in Breathe Out

Tich was on BBC Breakfast this morning where they played a clip from the 'Dumb' video and she performed 'Breathe In, Breathe Out'! Great idea to give both songs some promotion! :D

I think it already is.

Ignorance got to #14, but it's definitely stayed top 40 longer and most probably sold more already (obviously it will out peak that too).
