Overnight ratings: 6.8m. I'd assume if this wasn't shown in cinemas then that number would be considerably larger.

Overnight ratings for previous débuts:

Rose - 9.9m

The Christmas Invasion - 9.4m

The Eleventh Hour - 8.0m

Lower than I expected but it did have cinema viewings and it should have consolidated ratings of 9-10 million which is very good.
I wasn't watching live either. Started off doing so but my sister rang during the first 10! Some people do not have their priorities right !
Something I forgot to include in my review! I definitely agree that Vastra was brilliant in the episode, certainly a lot more tolerable than previous appearances (such as 'A Good Man Goes to War' particularly). She just seemed much more essential this time, but I think she could do without Jenny and Strax. They should have killed Jenny while they had the chance in 'The Name of the Doctor'.

I think that was the whole point...

Are you under the impression the Droids are supposed to be returning in 'Dark Water'?

I wouldn't say under the impression but it seems curious to draw such a deliberate parallel. Moffat does love his own creations too.

To me, I just feel it's one of those things Moffat does.

Otherwise it serves a namedrop and an attempt to rectify two plots that are similar. I think there'll be more to if.

The only way I can see them returning in the last two episodes is if the Half-Faced Man is still in heaven when we get to that point, or if the Droids are aligned with the Cybermen (there are indeed supposedly more than one set of villains in the finale, so I guess we'll have to wait and see). I think this choice of villain for 'Deep Breath' was, more than anything, just something that Moffat felt comfortable bringing back for a strong sideline plot while he developed Capaldi's Doctor.

'Mummy on the Orient Express'.

October then. Just in time for a Glorious re-release

So she's singing on a train? XD Gotta love her :P

The episode was not bad at all and I felt it captured some of the intensity that Russel.T.Davis had brought into the show (and which I have missed for a very long time)

a decent debut, I enjoyed it, and I must stick up for the Victorian threesome, I like them as a team and hope to see them again - a new Doctor needs continuity, he just works better with other characters to bounce off and show the new Doctor at his best. I like them all.
Doctor Who kiss complaints won't be investigated by Ofcom

Ofcom will not investigate complaints made about Doctor Who's series eight premiere 'Deep Breath'.

Some viewers complained to the media watchdog after Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) was seen kissing her human wife Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) as they hid from killer droids in last Saturday's (August 23) episode.

Ofcom confimed that it received six complaints from viewers, who described the kiss as "gratuitous" and "unnecessary".

A spokeman for Ofcom said: "Ofcom can confirm it received six complaints about a kiss broadcast in an episode of Doctor Who on Saturday 23 August.

"Having assessed the complaints, we can confirm that they do not raise issues warranting further investigation. Our rules do not discriminate between scenes involving opposite-sex and same-sex couples."

Peter Capaldi's full debut as the 12th Doctor was watched by nearly 7 million people, according to early figures.

Doctor Who continues on Saturday (August 30) at 7.30pm on BBC One with new episode 'Into The Dalek'. The show airs on BBC America in the US.

People actually complained about that? Good grief.

I barely noticed it happening. I struggle to imagine people strutting round the house after thinking 'how could they?'

Vastra and Jenny are a well established couple in the show. What do these people imagine they'd be doing?

Another fantastic episode and a lot better start than Series 7B. It's made me really hopeful for the rest of the series, especially with Missy as the glimpses we're seeing of her make her seem amazing. Looking forward to exploring who she is and her relationship with the Doctor.

I think what's really helping the series is bringing in more development to the characters and making it feel like more of a drama than just one-off adventures. We have Clara's life back home which, while the Danny appearance might feel a but shoe-horned atm, should pay off in future episodes. It's also nice to see the Doctor developing and him being aware of his flaws by having Clara there as the voice of reason. Clara and Peter's Doctor work SO MUCH better than her and Matt.

Loved seeing a different side to the Daleks without it appearing forced imo. I wasn't sure how going into the Dalek was going to work but I thought it worked well.

As I said, I'm really excited to see where the rest of the series goes and I hope the high standard continues (even though I'm not holding out much hope for the Robin Hood episode as I've never particularly been a huge fan).

That episode was more of a filler for me, I got bored at one stage, 5 out of 10.

Really liked that a lot. Very similar to S1's 'Dalek' in the sense it actually explored something depper and different with the daleks, and didn't just predictably bring them back, threatening somewhere, ambush etc. that we've seen a hundred times already. Still really liking the new Doctor and I agree that his chemistry with Clara is much better, she in general is appealing to me a lot more this time around. Hopefully we'll explore this soldier guy a bit more as it seemed a bit filler-ish as it was. Was a bit tough seeing Vod from Fresh Meat as a determined soldier, it didn't feel right

Next week's looks like a dud though :(

I wasn't that fussed on the plot tbh and the theme has been done to death. Quite fancy seeing a straightforward daleks attempt to take over storyline again.

Everything else I thoroughly enjoyed. I agree Peter Capaldi works amazingly with Jenna Coleman and this series is the making of Clara so far, she's starting to stand out. I enjoyed her scenes and Danny's scenes and also the Missy cameo which is stirring things up nicely. So yeah, mostly positive from me.
