Posted May 13, 201312 yr ...but haven't passed the test of time. B.o.B feat. Haley Williams - Airplanes springs to mind here, I haven't heard it once in the past year. Another one is California Gurls by Katy Perry which sadly got overshadowed by Firework. Other examples?
May 13, 201312 yr Eminem's Love The Way You Lie. Everyone was convinced that it would be played on the radios for a long time to come and... yeah.
May 13, 201312 yr As mentioned in the "signature songs" thread, 'Love the Way You Lie'. In fact, there is quite a lot of songs from 2010 that were massive but have been somewhat forgotten about in general, like 'Fireflies', 'OMG', 'Replay', 'Ridin' Solo'.
May 13, 201312 yr Agreeing with all mentioned so far. I guess 2010 really WAS the year of the non-number one (even for it's 'big' hits). :(

May 13, 201312 yr It's a shame as 2010 is one of my favourites years of music in terms of the 21st century. :( It's certainly my favourite year of this decade so far, but the 2000's held far superior years imo.
May 13, 201312 yr I think they still stand the test of time, but just aren't still over-played by radio stations. Heard "Airplanes" on R1 yesterday or today actually and forgot how great it was!
May 13, 201312 yr Oh god, I remember Airplanes being everywhere around the time I was taking my final A-level exams. Got annoying as hell but I haven't heard it for a good 2 and a bit years now
May 13, 201312 yr Surely 'Nothin' On You' would be an even bigger contender. That song seemed massive just before its release so if you all think 'Airplanes' has gone under the radar then 'NOY' most definitely has.

It definitely has, I had the list of 2010 number ones up and went straight past it! :P Poor 2010. :(
May 13, 201312 yr Yeah, 2010 is FULL of songs that were big at the time but have faded away completely (whereas there's tons of songs from '09 that have aged much better).
May 13, 201312 yr I think there's a difference between 'forgotten' and 'it doesn't get played anymore'. California Gurls, Airplanes and Love The Way You Lie don't get played anymore because it was pretty much saturation point airplay at the time. Nothin' On You and Ridin' Solo are pretty much genuinely forgotten now I'd say - this thread was the first time since the former was a hit that I even remembered its existence.
May 13, 201312 yr I would disagree about Nothin' On You. I still remember that song, it's not exactly forgettable!
May 13, 201312 yr I hear Ridin' Solo a lot on the radio actually.. KISS seem to play it every few days, especially during Kisstory!
May 13, 201312 yr Pretty much all XF winners songs and Comic Relief songs are barely remembered bar the odd stand out despite the absolutely massive sales (Amarillo comes to mind). Flicking through the year end top 10s, I would say all of these are fairly forgotten despite big sales, I've certainly not heard them on the radio since: Ozzy & Kelly Osborne - Changes Frankee - f*** You Right Back LMC vs U2 - Take Me To The Clouds Above Will Smith - Switch Infernal - From Paris to Berlin Rihanna - SOS Cascada - Everytime We Touch Shayne Ward - No Promises Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls Beyonce & Shakira - Beautiful Liar Basshunter - Now You're Gone Kid Rock - All Summer Long Ting Tings - That's Not My Name Tinchy Stryder feat. N-Dubz - Number 1 JLS - Beat Again David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over Black Eyed Peas - Meet Me Halfway Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song Aloe Blacc - I Need a Dollar Agree with the few mentioned from 2010, I would also add Replay, Rude Boy & Dynamite from that year. May 13, 201312 yr I would disagree about Nothin' On You. I still remember that song, it's not exactly forgettable! 'Nothin' On You' was by far one of my fave UK #1 hits in 2010 (there wasn't much competition that year though, let's face it :D ) but even I have to put bias to one side and admit it's just not remembered anymore. 'Airplanes' overshadowed the song completely in 2010 which wouldn't help its cause now 3 years later. :P
May 13, 201312 yr 'On the Floor', 'When Love Takes Over' (never understood the hype for that song), and 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' all seem like ones to me I imagine Heatwave will probably fall into this category soon as well
May 13, 201312 yr Might just be me but 'Poker Face'? I haven't heard that for absolutely AGES. In fact I pretty much never hear anything from 'The Fame'. Duffy 'Mercy' also comes to mind. Oh and 'Empire State Of Mind' purely because of how much the awful Alicia solo version overshadowed it in the end despite the original being a huge hit (and INFINITELY better). Same could also apply to 'Read All About It' but the original of that wasn't really THAT big. Edited May 13, 201312 yr by Bré

I disagree on a lot of these (Rude Boy and I Need A Dollar?!) but oh my, Switch is absolutely what this thread is all about.
May 13, 201312 yr I had to go and listen to Airplanes to remember how it went. Is this what spawned the Eminem/Rhianna collab? Edited May 13, 201312 yr by AnthonyT
