May 19, 201312 yr I'm surprised UK snubbed Germany, I've seen it a decent amount of music channels. I'd imagine the juries saw to that, same with Norway. Certainly Cascada are the second highest on iTunes so they MUST have got some points from televoting.
May 19, 201312 yr This may sound like a stupid question, but what is the point of juries in Eurovision? Don't they trust the general public to have 100% of the vote?
May 19, 201312 yr The point is to cut down on neighbourly voting ('and to our wonderful Turkish neighbours we give...') and provide a more balanced view of the songs from people who are in the music industry. Sometimes it works like that, sometimes it doesn't. But I do think they are necessary for Eurovision.

Fair enough, but I just think it's weird that Margaret Berger and Cascada didn't get points from us, but are doing well on iTunes. Even with the juries in place there's obviously a lot of bloc voting however :P
May 19, 201312 yr Until we see the split results (and if we get the UK's 50/50 breakdown this year) we won't know exactly what effect it had but I can well believe that the likes of Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine flourished with the juries just as much as they did the general public.
May 19, 201312 yr Plus the new system this year makes it even easier to explain. All it would take is 2/3 of the jury members to put Germany and Norway near the bottom of their ranking to negate any/all televoting points. It's not a perfect system but I do think the positives outweigh the negatives.
May 19, 201312 yr I don't like this Cascada song, but love Natalie and even some her singles, but my taste is very non-mainstream in compare with 90 % of Eurovision fans. "Euphoria" was in my bottom 2. "Glorious" was very loved by many peoples (same thoughts about "Crisalide") These 2 flops were the huge shock for me. German NF 2013 songs : My favourite "La La La" , awful Söhne Mannheims, classic music from Die Priester & Mojca Erdmann, cut Mobilee, Finn Martin with very standard ballad, non-mainstream and very specific Saint Lu e.t.c I don't see the songs from German NF, which could have much better result on Eurovision, than Cascada. Blitzkids mvt. "Heart on the Line" could have done a bit better, LaBrassBanda "Nackert" might have done much better (not in the UK and the Scandinavian countries, but the Eastern-ish ones - top 10-15 for sure) . You're right about the rest, tough. Edited May 19, 201312 yr by FrankLuck
May 19, 201312 yr Well that was a fun! Didn't mind Denmark storming it in the end, even though i was fully behind Berger (and her glorious ass).
May 19, 201312 yr I'm back home! How depressing! :nocheer: good to see Emmelie and Margaret doing well on iTunes!
May 19, 201312 yr I'm back home! How depressing! :nocheer: good to see Emmelie and Margaret doing well on iTunes! Seeing Eurovision live must've been fun! That stadium was MASSIVE :o Edited May 19, 201312 yr by Thermometer
May 19, 201312 yr The final averaged 7.7m in the UK last night which is slightly up on last year, peaking with 9.22m, great news! 4.8m in the Netherlands too, 65% market share.
May 19, 201312 yr Seeing Eurovision live must've been fun! That stadium was MASSIVE :o I've been to bigger, the O2 arena and Globen in Stockholm for example. But yes it was quite something, shame I had to come back hours after it finished but I could only get a few days off work!
May 19, 201312 yr I was horrified we didn't give shit to Norway. I was really hoping she'd manage to come 2nd or at least 3rd behind Denmark. Azerbaijan had an alright song, much better than the eternal turd that is Running Scared, but it wasn't a winner so I was really glad to see Em hold on to claim yet another Scandi victory. In the past 5 years all of Scandinavia has now gained a win each and very well deserved wins at that :cheer: Add in Germany and it's proof that Western Nations can still win and thrive when they send great songs!
May 19, 201312 yr We were in the centre of Copenhagen last night and the atmosphere was unreal! When Cascada came on we all went mental!... And the less mentioned of that 21st place, the better! Another largely disappointing set of results on my opinion.... And is it only me that isn't a fan of "only teardrops"?
May 19, 201312 yr Divided the results into a 'Western' bloc and 'Eastern' bloc, obviously these are quite simplistic divisions and don't really show anything but had the North/Western countries only voted the top 10 would've been: 01 Denmark 136 02 Norway 96 03 Netherlands 78 04 Azerbaijan 67 05 Greece 67 06 Malta 62 07 Italy 62 08 Ukraine 59 09 Russia 57 10 Hungary 53 and had the South/Eastern countries only voted: 01 Azerbaijan 167 02 Ukraine 155 03 Denmark 145 04 Russia 117 05 Norway 95 06 Greece 85 07 Italy 64 08 Malta 58 09 Moldova 53 10 Georgia 50 17 countries I've considered North/Western and 22 South/Eastern obviously not all of the countries fit into those specific regions but anywai haha. May 19, 201312 yr Both Azerbaijan and Denmark have received comparisons to Dutch songs. Denmark's one may be a bit of a stretch (although I must admit the flute from Denmark did remind me of this song from the start) : But the piano intro of Azerbaijan is identical to this : J.J. Bom - 's Avonds Laat
