Single & Album Summary

The only competition this week comes in the form of Union J for the #1 title with their debut track "Carry You", but will Robin Thicke and his pals hold on for a second week, other new entries will probably come in the shape of Fuse ODG (Antenna), Afrojack/Chris Brown (As Your Friend), Kodaline (Love Like This) and Phillip Phillips (Home), and a return for the Goo Goo Dolls (Iris) on the back of BBC1 reality series The Voice and Maverick Sabre (I Need) on the back of ITV1 reality series Britain's Got Talent.

Daft Punk's #1 position is in danger this week from the hugely anticipated debut album from Disclosure (Settle) and Queens Of The Stone Age (... Like Clockwork). Other potential new albums from Miles Kane, Sleeping With Sirens, City & Colour, Megadeth, Joe Hopkins and Camera Obscura.

Top 40 Singles

Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, featuring TI and Pharrell Williams, which last week became the fastest-selling single of the year, looks set for a second week on top of the Official Singles Chart.

According to today’s Official Chart Update, Blurred Lines shows no signs of retreat and is outselling its closest competitor Naughty Boy FT Sam Smith’s La La La, by nearly two to one, it has sold a staggering 260,000 copies to date.

Upon reaching Number 1 last weekend, Thicke told OfficialCharts.com:

“It is an honour and a pleasure to be Number 1 in the UK. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of, and I am so grateful to all the people who made this dream come true. Thank you!”

Carry On, the debut single from X Factor boy band Union J is currently at Number 3, closely followed by Daft Punk & Pharell’s inescapable Get Lucky at Number 4. Fuse ODG, with a little help from Wyclef Jean, looks set to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 5 with Antenna (4), though it faces tough competition from Passenger who is heading for his sixth consecutive week in the Top 10 with Let Her Go.

Afrojack and Chris Brown are at Number 17 in this week’s Official Chart Update with As Your Friend, while Love Like This, the new single from Irish rockers Kodaline is at Number 19.

Top 40 Albums

Josh Homme's QOTSA and the Disclosure brothers go head-to-head in nail-biting race for Number 1.

The gloves are off!

It’s USA vs UK / Californa vs Surrey / veterans vs rookies / rock vs electronica / man vs machine as Palm Desert’s Queens Of The Stone Age go head-to-head with Reigate duo Disclosure in the race for Number 1 on the Official Album Chart.

…Like Clockwork, the sixth album from US rock veterans QOTSA snatches a nail-biting lead on Disclosure’s debut album Settle of only a few thousand copies in today’s Official Chart Update, but the gap is steadily narrowing with all still to play for.

Josh Homme’s band of merry men have yet to secure a UK Number 1 album. 2002’s Songs For The Deaf and 2005’s Lullabies To Paralyze both peaked at Number 4.

Meanwhile, Disclosure brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, who have boasted a string of hit singles in recent months, spearheaded by the Number 2-peaking White Noise FT AlunaGeorge, should by no means rule themselves out of a debut chart topper this weekend. With Disclosure currently enjoying no less than three tracks riding in today’s Top 50 over on the Official Singles Chart Update, the UK public are clearly keen - could an albums upset be on the cards come Sunday’s final whistle?

Daft Punk look set to lose their two-week hold on Number 1 as Random Access Memories falls down two to Number 3, while Rod Stewart’s Time slips to Number 4.

Miles Kane is on course for his highest charting solo album to date, as the former Rascals and Last Shadow Puppets singer’s second release Don’t Forget Who You Are is at Number 5 in this week’s Official Chart Update.

Rock super veterans Megadeth are on course for their highest charting album in almost a decade as their fourteenth studio album Supercollider is at Number 14 midweek. At Number 20 is Mutation’s Error 500, followed by City & Colour at Number 21 with The Hurry And The Harm.

This week’s new entries are rounded off by Sleeping With Sirens’ third album Feel at Number 28 and Camera Obscura’s Desire Lines (30).

Midweek Charts update: Disclosure poised to deny Queens Of Stone Age No 1

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Disclosure have moved ahead of Queens Of The Stone Age on midweek UK album sales as Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines surpasses 300,000 takers in less than a fortnight.

QOTSA's first ever Matador album Like Clockwork sat at No 1 at the beginning of the week, but during trading on Thursday was overtaken by Disclosure's PMR/Island debut Settle, according to Official Charts Company data.

Despite now likely to miss out on a No 1, the band fronted by Josh Homme are set to beat their previous best chart peak of 4 in the UK, achieved by both 2002's Songs For The Deaf and 2005 set Lullabies To Paralyse. It is currently more than 10,000 sales ahead of Daft Punk's Columbia-issued Random Access Memories, which drops 1-3 in the midweeks, and outselling by nearly two copies to one Decca/Capitol act Rod Stewart's Time, which falls 2-4. Pasenger's Nettwerk album All The Little Lights completes the Top 10, falling 4-5.

Columbia act Miles Kane will debut in the Top 10 on Sunday with Don't Forget Who You Are, while a Britain's Got Talent performance is set to send Olly Murs back into the 10 with his Epic set Right Place Right Time.

After last week accumulating 2013's highest weekly sales of the year by shifting 190,572 copies, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines will spend a second week at No 1 on the singles chart on Sunday with another 100,000-plus tally. The Interscope/Polydor track featuring TI and Pharrell Williams had by the end of business on Thursday sold another 118,276 copies, taking its running total in under two weeks to above 300,000 units.

The three tracks that were immediately below Blurred Lines on last weekend's chart retain their positions on the latest midweeks with Virgin act Naughty Boy's La La La featuring Sam Smith holding at 2, the Columbia-issued Get Lucky by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams still at 3 and Passenger's Nettwerk single Let Her Go remaining at 4. X Factor 2012 finalists Union J's first RCA release Carry You is new at 5, while 3 Beat/AARW single Antena by Fuse ODG is 6 in the week to date.

Would love to know how close the top 2 albums are.

QOTSA are currently Number 1 in the album chart, keep them there... http://bit.ly/12Ofbuq

Disclosure are at Number 2 also, sounding great in the office in this weather right now http://bit.ly/18PS0rq

Useless without sales, Disclosure probably won't hold up exceptionally well so a 3k lead might be enough provided they're at least 10k ahead of Rod and Daft Punk.

Regardless, good result given that Era Vulgaris did fairly poorly despite a top 20 single.

On a separate note Disclosure are on Jools Holland tonight at 10pm and Friday night along with Caro Emerald, Bonnie Raitt, Shane Meadows, Johnny Marr and Noah & The Whale.

Unless Queens of the Stone Age have a big enough lead i can see them getting dethroned by Daft Punk by the end of the week. Disclosure i also think will fall behind Daft Punk. i think the Top 4 could end up

01 Daft Punk.

02 Queen of the Stone Age.

03 Disclosure.

04 Rod Stewart..

Number 5 will be between Bastille and Bruno Mars.

QOTSA will surely be far more frontloaded than Disclosure? Hopefully we'll get info on the sales gap tomorrow.

Woo at Fuse ODG in the top 5.

I should have said "either", obviously QOTSA will be more frontloaded but I think both will be so they might not need a huge lead over #2.

I actually think that Queens Of The Stone Age will go to #1 on Sunday with a 10-20k gap over Disclosure. It's well deserved as well, the album is being promoted everywhere.

Antenna is in the Top 5? :o I think it could debut at #7 or #8 on Sunday.

Blimey! I hope Shane Meadows won't be singing.

Liquid Lunch and Latch are flying high again because of this great to see. There may also be 3 Disclosure songs in this weeks top 40?!

It appears that Queens of the Stone Age are still beating Disclosure in the midweeks. Would be amazing to get ... Like Clockwork to no. 1.

Today's update hopefully will be posted up soon, I'm outta here.
