I would love all of those to get great boosts  Especially the last one.

I agree. It deserved to be bigger than it was and I hope Matt really delivers with it. I'm sure he will.

Those are all nice choices, except

End Of The Road, and I don't like Joseph anyway

. Would be nice to hear Leah's version of that, could be another top 20 for her.

It could have been a lot worse tbh. At least it wasn't 'Circle Of Life' or something equally predictable.

Talking of Avril performing on The Voice, 'Here's To Never Growing Up' is now being released on July 14th!
I have no idea how HTNGU will do once it is released. It seems like radio have just snubbed it completely. Did WTH have any support from Capital or Radio 1? It's a shame Avril is quite irrelevant these days. If only she released another 'Don't Tell Me'. :( I can see HTNGU going top 30 but then I can also see it struggling to make the top 50.

I know for sure that Capital didn't play What the Hell, but I think Radio 1 did. What the Hell did pretty well really. I think it must've sold about 150,000.

Are they just going to keep pushing it back until Radio 1 playlists it? I'm not a fan of the track but waiting 3 months just to own a track from a once big name artist is ridiculous.

That's the main reason I rarely listen to radio 1 - they'd rather have 'new & crap', than 'popular & proven'! :(

Team Jessie group song:

Rihanna - Stay

Team Will group song:

Blondie - Rapture

Team Danny group song:

Passenger - Let Her Go

Typical Danny

Team Tom group song:

Joe South - Games People Play

Final 8 group song:

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait

-_-

Guest performers:

Beady Eye - Second Bite Of The Apple

Avril Lavigne - Here's To Never Growing Up

I love to see Blondie's track back in the chart :D

To be fair, if they just stuck with the P&P policy then it would be the same artists all the time.

While I think Radio 1 seem very try-hard and are so blatantly desperate to attract teenagers (a demographic who probably like some of the artists who are blacklisted/snubbed more than the likes of One Direction and The Saturdays in general), I appreciate the fact that they've playlisted Mariah Carey and have been the main driving force behind some great recent hits which wouldn't be touched by Heart or Capital. I doubt Lana Del Rey would've been big with VG/BTD without Radio 1.

How is Avril Lavigne proven to be popular in this day and age? She hasn't had a big hit in more than 6 years

Blondie - Rapture

Interesting - one of the only very few

Rap

songs I like!

Not sure i quite understand this, would it not be a bit boring if Radio 1 stuck to playling music/artists that are 'popular & proven'?

Some of the songs apparently being performed tonight on The Voice:

R.Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly (Karl)

Boyz II Men - End Of The Road (Joseph)

En Vogue - Don't Let Go (Cleo)

The Fugees - Killing Me Softly (Leah)

Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire (Matt)

To be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing all of these songs receive significant boosts from this evening (if they are indeed the songs performed). Realistically, I can see Leah's song choice (both her version and the version she's covering) going top 100 at least. I'm not sure about the others but I hope Matt does well as always.

EDIT: Forgot Cleo's.

I read Andrea is singing

One Of Us by Joan Osbourne

, Ash is singing

Ex-Factor by Lauryn Hill

, both interesting choices but probably too interesting to be true!

How is Avril Lavigne proven to be popular in this day and age? She hasn't had a big hit in more than 6 years

6 years isn't that long though. Like it was 3 years ago that California Gurls and We No Speak Americano were huge, and 3 years before that was Girlfriend.

I was making the same point about Madonna. They say she's irrelevent to young people, and whilst she's certainly not the most popular artist with young people, I wouldn't say she's irrelevent to them. I mean, some of the people that were teenagers when 4 Minutes was massive are still teenagers now, same with Girlfriend. Although there is certainly the factor of kids not wanting to like the same artists and genres of music as their parents. Also, I think Radio 1 are trying to take bigger measures because the average age of their listeners is like 34 or something like that, a large chunk of their listeners are in the Radio 2 age range.

I think it should depend more on the song than the actual artist. For example if Madonna released a song like Bangarang or something that should obviously be considered for the playlist, whilst if she released a piano ballad then obviously not.

I disagree completely with your first line, 6 years is an eternity in pop music. There simply wouldn't be room on radio stations' playlists to automatically playlist every song by every popstar who's ever been relevant at any point, no matter how irrelevant they've been in recent years or how unpopular their new songs are - you have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to automatically giving the stars of yesteryear free passes.

^ Exactly, 6 years doesn't seem that long, but we all thought '6 years isn't that long' when Nelly Furtado came back last year and we all know how that turned out

I agree that 6 years is a long time in pop music.

'Girlfriend' was released when Gwen Stefani was last in the charts as a dominant force. Same goes for Fergie. That period in music seems like ages ago. It was also before the likes of Katy Perry and GaGa who I view as the "new era" of the music scene. Jesus, 'Girlfriend' was released even before Leona Lewis and Rihanna became huge stars.

Big Hoops didn't deserve to flop  She got a #1 smash where it really matters! (in my personal charts)

Avril hasn't been gone for that long though, What the Hell was a decent-sized hit. I don't think the new one will be though, she's so irrelevant and the hype from her Voice performance would've died down by the time they finally release it here.

Everything Everything still not even top 1,500 with 'Don't Try' despite R1 support  Looks like there's no chance of it even going top 200 then.

Robert DeLong currently #239 with 'Global Concepts' due to the weekend effect but it was ~#138 the other day IIRC - really hope it can crack the top 100 next week after the weekend effect wears off  Was incredible to hear it on daytime R1 the other day.

 39. I Don't Care I Love It (Radio Edit) - Remix Junkies

Third fake of 'I Love It' to make the top 40. I wonder why this one has suddenly spiked after the Glee version seemed like it'd be permanently the highest. (That's  to #82).
