Yeah, there's a difference between taking a risk and producing a godawful song - using Leona as an example again with Collide which actually proved to be quite decent and a risk for her in a way.

Great to see Ke$ha top 30 and still climbing on iTunes. New peak for Black Skinhead too hopefully.

I hope The Editors can hold on to the top 5, its sales will likely be dire, but its pleasing that they're that high at all after the mega floppage of the lead single (though it was very average)

Collide was awful :( I'm still not over that being a hit instead of Fade Into Darkness (same instrumental, better lyrics, better vocals)

Gentleman is one of The Sats' worst songs to date, I am happy that it is flopping. Taking a risk can prove to be beneficial sometimes but this is not the case for them.

I see that the old and boring excuses are coming out already.

The fact is that the public think that it's CRAP.

1. Reduce your signature, it's too long.

2. Of course there's an excuse to why it's performing poorly. I wouldn't say that the public think it's crap, a lot of people dislike the song but a lot of people like it. Promotion has been limited and airplay has been poor.

Re Haus: I wouldn't compare 'Collide' with 'Gentleman' in the slightest, ' Collide ' was incredibly current where 'Gentleman' is quite unique as there's nothing else really like it in the charts!

Promotion has been limited and airplay has been poor.

No it hasn't?! It's always on the music video channels and the radio!

Trouble also had a great amount of promotion, of course 'Gentleman' has under performed, but at least The Saturdays' took a risk instead of going down the predictable route.

Yes they've finally taken a risk after releasing 14 generic electro-pop singles, they've gone down an R&B route just as the genre has become popular again. I don't know why you even brought Leona into the equation, you know I believe she has more creativity and talent in her than The Sats put together so arguing about it is pointless.

Also, the same excuses you've applied to the failure of 'Gentleman' are even more valid for any of Leona's current singles post-2009. 'Gentleman' and 'Trouble' both B-Listed on R1 yet the former had Capital support...

I wouldn't say that in the slightest, The Saturdays co-wrote the majority of ' On Your Radar ' and have written tracks for other artists. Leona's stage presence is not existent.

'Trouble' had immense promotion, I'm sure 'Gentleman' would have went top 10 had they performed on Children In Need, X-Factor etc.

Have you seen their airplay peaks? I'm sure I've heard 'Domino' more times on Capital over 'Gentleman'!

Have you seen their airplay peaks?

Why would that matter? Gentlemen is played loads on Radio 1 and anyone who watches music video channels will tell you that it's been played enough times to make an effect on the public. Which it clearly hasn't. And not many people apart from their fanbase are buying the song, which is proven by soon becoming their third lowest peak.

have to agree with griff lee... enough people know 'gentleman' to make it a #01 record, it just doesn't appeal! (which is probably the reason they didn't get airplay support)

Why wouldn't airplay not matter? A song is not going to do well if it's underperforming on Radio and Television. It's television airplay was nowhere near as successful as 'What About Us' and only managed to peak at #19 before dropping fast, 'What About Us' went top 10 after three weeks on television airplay.

Of course the song has underperformed, I do still like the song though! It's not very radio friendly either, 'Gentleman' should have been an album track and 'Not Giving Up On Love' should have been single two.

Regardless, Single 3 is going to be huge!

What's so impressive about them writing tracks if they aren't any good (going by the singles)? Leona co-wrote the bulk of Echo and some of Glassheart - big deal. And who cares if she doesn't move on stage, her voice is enough to capture the audience's attention. The Sats can barely sing and just because they can do a few simple dance routines, I wouldn't call it "stage presence". 'Trouble' might have had XF/CIN, but it had abysmal radio/video play. 'Gentleman' has been played on Capital repeatedly, playlisted on R1 and a lot on the music channels. They're releasing it off the back of their biggest hit to date - just admit it, it's failing. I've even said I like 'Gentleman' but The Sats were never going to be chart forces, were they?

And just  at you thinking The Sats are more talented. Mollie got rejected from XF three times.

Well, we'll see if it is, won't we? It's not as if it's certain.

Since when are Single 3 will be huge, unless your name is Rihanna or Calvin Harris :P [/justsaying]

I fully agree that Leona's voice is incredible, it's upsetting to see her flopping. I've already admitted 'Gentleman' is "failing" I'm just saying that I'm glad they did go for a risk instead of remaining down the predictable route

Show me where I said Leona is more talented? I've claimed that The Saturdays' have better stage presence. I would much rather go and see an artist who has a mixture of songs in differnt genres and routines rather than 90minutes of ballads! It's just my opinion!

I'm joking, but if The Saturdays release ' Not Giving Up On Love ', I'm sure it could mimic the success of Higher/Ego.

I'm sorry, but what?!

Firstly not all 14 singles have been 'generic electro pop', secondly this is not remotely R&B.

I said Leona has more creativity and talent than The Sats put together and you said "I wouldn't say that in the slightest". And I agree re: Leona, but she's chosen to make and release music she wants rather than following trends (luckily 'Collide' was a blip). It's good The Sats took a risk but I think they believed their hype too much after finally getting a #1.

But that was my point, The Sats don't have a mix of genres. It's all pure Pop maybe with a bit of dance in there.

For the most-part they have been, and I don't actually mean proper "R&B" but elements of the genre (obviously).

I'm delighted 'Gentleman' has under-performed, It will teach them a lesson for doing shit promotion and will force them to promote single 3 as hard as they can!
