July 5, 201313 yr Gentleman is one of The Sats' worst songs to date, I am happy that it is flopping. Taking a risk can prove to be beneficial sometimes but this is not the case for them. Presumably they thought it's safer to take a risk after a #1, than after a flop...
July 5, 201313 yr Comical really that Stooshe's "Slip" debuted at #12 a month or so ago, yet here's The Saturdays' (a #1/large fanbased group) looking to debut at #11-13 this week with a blatant rip-off. Thrilled to see the girls underperforming with this track really, proof that they should just stick to what they know. Great as it is that someone from BGT is doing well in the charts, I'm pleased to see Gabz now out of the T5 officially. It'll undoubtedly fall from the T10 next week, so I'd rather see Naughty Boy's "La La La" maintain a T5 position for the SIXTH consecutive week. Had hoped Tom Odell could someone regain the #1 album position, but alas. Hopeful that Mumford & Sons can hold on, I'd much rather them return to #1 than Michael Buble; who really isn't doing as well this era as I thought he would.
July 5, 201313 yr I dislike the Saturdays and Leona equally :P but I think it's pretty obvious the Saturdays are in a stronger position. This flop shows they don't really have that strong a fanbase, but still, they showed just a few months ago that they can get a big hit when they get a great song. Basically people don't really care about the Saturdays one way or another, they're basically indifferent to them, but they don't really dislike them so much that they won't buy one of their songs if they actually like it. So if their next song is better they'll probably do well again. Leona on the other hand is flopping with songs that would probably be hits for other artists. She couldn't even get a hit with an Emeli Sande-written song in the year of Sande domination. That shows that simply having Leona's name attached to a song is a liability these days. She couldn't even get a hit with an Emeli Sande-written song in the year of Sande domination. That shows that simply having Leona's name attached to a song is a liability these days. I think that's a slightly unfair statement. Only a year before 'Trouble', she managed to get a song to #2 on iTunes off the back of one performance only. I'm not going to make out that she's the chart force she used to be because clearly she isn't but her recent lack of chart success is nothing to do with the fact that she's Leona Lewis. I think Leona fans and chart fans alike know that ever since 'Happy', her management and radio airplay have been poor to say the least. If she had a great management team and a decent label, she would still be doing well in the charts today.
July 5, 201313 yr Happy to see The Saturdays flopping. The only way they can get a hit is with generic, faceless dance music that could be sung/released by any one and become a hit. The public are apathetic towards them and their fanbase is beyond annoying.
July 5, 201313 yr I'd rather see Naughty Boy's "La La La" maintain a T5 position for the SIXTH consecutive week. I'm pretty sure this will be La La La's seventh week top 5? 1-2-2-2-3-5-5 Unless you meant that it would be the sixth week in a row that it stayed in the top five from the week before, in which case sorry for correcting you!

I disagree with this. Yeah Leona isn't as big as she used to be but with the right song and the right promotion I think she could easily have a big hit again. I'm not saying another #1 for her is likely but it's certainly not out of the question (given the right song and promotion) - look at the Saturdays, no one thought they'd ever get that #1 and then What About Us come along. July 6, 201313 yr Just wondering if they'll play The Spark Productions or the Avicii version on Radio 1 this sunday. ^_^

July 6, 201313 yr Leona vs The Sats? What a random discussion. For the record, I think it's obvious The Sats are in a much safer position and are much more relevant than Leona. Leona has sold more records than The Sats and has massive album sales and done well worldwide with the Spirit era, but she hasn't had a decent sized hit in years! She's had huge exposure every winter with X-Factor performances and yet her last big hit was 'Run' in 2008, the year that The Sats debuted! The Sats have had nowhere near the success of Leona, but that actually puts them in a much safer position. They've never really been huge sellers. They've had their multiple top ten singles that sell an average amount and they do their tours and gigs and keep a sort of low profile. If they flop, it's not a big deal because Wordshaker flopped and yet Ego/Missing You/Higher were all hits. Notorious flopped but then All Fired Up was a hit. My Heart Takes Over and On Your Radar both bombed and yet 30 Days managed to secure them another top ten single and keep their profile alive, and then they dissappear for about 10 months and release What About Us and go to #1 with big sales and sell about 350K. The Sats can bounce back from their flops and have surprised us time and time again. They've never had massive airplay nor have they ever had the big promo that other artists get (The Voice, Britains Got Talent, X-Factor, Red Or Black, even Jonathon Ross, although they've managed Alan Carr a few times). Leona seems to just give up whenever things get tough for her, whereas The Sats are back out to work on their next release instantly. edit - as for the "talent" debate. Leona is a better individual singer than The Sats girls but Vanessa in 2008 was a fantastic singer, probably on the same level that Leona is now (she's definitely declined a bit). July 6, 201313 yr We were never discussing who was in the "safest position". As for Vanessa VS Leona, just no.

Leona is a better individual singer than The Sats girls but Vanessa in 2008 was a fantastic singer, probably on the same level that Leona is now (she's definitely declined a bit). It's not Leona that gives up. It's her label/management. They cut the campaigns short when they see it underperforming, rather than trying again. Which is rather sad as that attitude has cost Leona a lot (Echo was cut short and Glassheart too). Vanessa was/is a good singer, but no where near Leona's caliber imo. The Saturdays have definitely done a good job with keeping their profile/having hit after hit though! I think John Newman is looking at 135kish sales. I hope "Blurred Lines" can pass 100k too.
July 6, 201313 yr The top 5 are going to have some awesome sales! I think Blurred Lines will finally hit below 100k, although not by much I don't think
July 6, 201313 yr I'm pretty sure this will be La La La's seventh week top 5? 1-2-2-2-3-5-5 It's really been an amazing run for La La La hasn't it?! That and the Passenger song are totally flying under the radar thanks to the Daft Punk and Blurred Lines' hype.
