July 1, 201313 yr Author Midweek Charts: Glastonbury lifts Mumfords Source: MW by Paul Willams Mumford & Sons' televised Glastonbury performance could return them to the top of the UK artist albums chart this weekend. Sales of the Gentlemen Of The Road/Island-issued Babel have risen 363% on the week to raise it 16-1 on the midweeks, according to the Official Charts Company, as its predecessor Sigh No More rises 37-9 with a 327% retail lift. The big increases in demand for the albums follow the band's Sunday night Glastonbury headline set being televised on BBC Two and come as a number of other artists enjoy huge sales lift on the back of the festival's TV coverage. They include Jack Bugg's whose self-titled Mercury album lifts 239%, although that is only good enough to hold it at 5 in the midweeks, and Asylum/Atlantic's Rudimental who are up 11-8 with sales of Home rising 38%. Island act Ben Howard's Every Kingdonm progresses 31-14 with sales up 209%, The Lumineers' eponymous Decca set is up 21-17 with sales improving 125% and Of Monsters & Men's Republic/Island album My Head Is An Animal ascends 71-23 with sales up 266%. Michael Buble is providing Mumford & Sons with the greatest competition for No 1 with his Reprise/Warner Bros album To Be Loved lifting 4-2 and sales up 94% following the start of his 10-date residency at London's O2 arena. Tom Odel's Columbia debut Long Way Down drops 1-3, while The Editors' fourth album and first with Play It Again Sam, The Weight Of Your Love, is new at 4 in the week to date. Passenger's Network album All The Little Lights is down 3-6, Rod Stewart's Capitol/Decca-issued Time looks like dropping out of the top five for the first time with a 2-7 place fall in the week so far, while below Rudimental and Mumford & Sons is Bruno Mars whose Atlantic-released Unorthodox Jukebox is down 9-10. They managed to end Robin Thicke’s month-long domination of Number 1 with Blurred Lines, but Icona Pop’s run at the top of the Official Singles Chart looks likely to be cut short this weekend. According to the Official Chart Company’s latest sales data, John Newman’s debut solo single Love Me Again is on course to debut at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this Sunday, outselling electro twosome Icona Pop by almost two to one at this midway stage. Love Me Again has sold over 70,000 copies up to midnight last night, and is likely to break the 100,000 mark by the time the Official Singles Chart is revealed on Sunday, which would make this the 12th week running in which the Number 1 single has sold 100,000 copies in a week. The track would be John Newman’s first Number 1 as a solo artist, having previously reached the top spot with electronic quartet Rudimental on Feel the Love in June 2012. Tune into the Official Chart Show with Jameela Jamil on BBC Radio 1 from 4pm on Sunday, or log on to www.officialcharts.com from 7pm to find out if John Newman can hang on to his lead over Icona Pop. Britain’s Got Talent finalist Gabz Gardiner is set to make her Official Singles Chart debut this weekend. The 14-year-old, who released her first single Lighters (The One) earlier this week, is currently at Number 5 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update. Gabz wrote the track herself and recorded it with Kylie Minogue / JLS / Girls Aloud producer Graham Stack. BRIT Award winner Tom Odell’s short reign at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with Long Way Down looks like it could be over. The British public have instead been pulling on their tweed waistcoats this week as Glastonbury headliners Mumford & Sons dominate today’s Official Chart Update with no less than TWO albums in the Top 10, and their most recent release, Babel, on course to make a triumphant return to the top spot. In the race to Number 1, Mumford & Sons are just ahead of Canada’s king of easy listening, Michael Bublé, at this midway stage after closing last weekend’s Glastonbury Festival 2013 with their rousing Sunday night Pyramid stage slot, but this could all change when the Official Albums Chart is announced on Sunday. There are just over 1,000 copies separating the Surrey four-piece’s Babel – which has spent two non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 since its release in 2012 – and Bublé’s To Be Loved, which spent two weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart earlier this year. Mumford & Sons are enjoying a boost over on the Official Singles Chart too, with six of their tracks featuring in the Top 200 midweek. Tom Odell falls two places to Number 3 with former chart-topper Long Way Down, while Editors are on course with their fourth Top 5 album – The Weight Of Your Love looks set to enter today’s Update at Number 4. Jake Bugg’s self-titled album, a non-mover, makes up the Top 5. New Entries and High Climbers Aside from Editors’ The Weight Of Your Love (Number 4), there are two other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart Update. Irish group Duckworth Lewis Method, fronted by The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon, look set for their second Top 40 album, with Sticky Wickets entering at 24. American rock duo Deap Vally score their first Top 40 hit – their debut album Sistrionix is new at 26. Glastonbury’s influence has led to some massive climbers on this week’s Official Albums Chart Update. Just outside the Top 40, Chase & Status’ No More Idols rockets 131 places to 41. Inside the Top 40, The xx’s Coexist jumps 63 places to Number 33, Icelandic group Of Monsters and Men leap 48 places to Number 23 with My Head Is An Animal and Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More returns to the Top 10, rising 28 places to Number 9. Rolling Stones’ Glastonbury debut has paid off – greatest hits collection GRRR! climbs 31 places to 18. Arctic Monkeys’ return as headliners sees their three albums all make big gains in today’s Update. Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not is up 16 places to Number 16, Favourite Worst Nightmare climbs 27 places to 35, and Suck It And See rockets 44 places to Number 40. July 1, 201313 yr Author Midweek Charts update: John Newman hitting 100,000 sales Source: MW by Paul Willams John Newman's Love Me Again will become the 12th consecutive No 1 single on Sunday to clock up more than 100,000 weekly sales. The newly-issued Island track currently leads the midweeks by nearly 40,000 units having been only around 2,500 copies short at the end of business on Thursday of surpassing 100,000 sales, according to the Official Charts Company. His 100,000 plus sales appearance at No1 this weekend will follow similar sales achievements by the likes of Daft Punk, Naughty Boy and Robin Thicke and further extend the longest consecutive run of chart-toppers with seven-figure tallies since January to April 1998. Newman's closest challenger to No 1 is Thicke's Interscope/Polydor track Blurred Lines with TI and Pharrell Williams as it pushes ever closer to a million cumulative sales. It has already sold another 60,000 units so far this week to hold at 2, while Atlantic act Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX's I Love It drops 1-3. Will.i.am's Interscope/Polydor cut Bang Bang loses a place to 4 as Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith's Virgin single La La La holds at 5. Britain's Got Talent 2013 finalist Gabz is new at 6 in the midweeks with the RCA-issued Lighters (The One). There are presenty little more than 1,000 sales separating two former artist album No 1s in their quest to return to the top on Sunday. Gentlemen Of The Road/Island's Mumford & Sons currently have the edge with Babel's sales up 284% on the week and moving it 16-1 following their televised Glastonbury headline appearance last Sunday, while Michael Buble's Reprise/Warner set To Be Loved climbs 4-2 with sales up 82% as his 10-night O2 run in London continues. Columbia act Tom Odell's Long Way Down drops 1-3 and Mercury/Virgin EMI act Jake Bugg also benefits from Glastonbury with sales of his self-titled debut up 203% on the week to lift it 5-4. July 1, 201313 yr The interesting thing for me will be if Janet Devlin's Pledge Music album sales will be included in the chart or not! She's sold 3,355 downloads today (the amount of people that have pledged and therefore got the album), and the majority of them will be from the UK - at least 2,500 I'd say. This should easily be enough to be in the midweek top 40 I think (and probably the top 50 at the end of the week), so we'll find out very soon if they are counted or not!

Why didn't she release the album properly? Could she not get a record deal with a major?
July 2, 201313 yr I *think* the Pledge Music sales should be counted as I believe she's released this in the same way as the album 'Error 500' by Mutation which made the top 50 a few weeks ago. Why didn't she release the album properly? Could she not get a record deal with a major? She is releasing the album properly at a later date. The earlier date is just for people who pledged. July 2, 201313 yr Single & Album Summary . The Saturdays hoping to gain another top 10 hit with "Gentleman", anyone wants to predict their bra sizes :kink: I have no knowledge of their bra sizes, though they seem to be mourning the passing of the gentleman since 1995. Oddly enough ladies were saying that in 1965. Apparently they base their low opinion on men because they buy them fancy cars as compensation for being unfaithful. They also list a load of rich celebrities as ideal hubbies. Try dating some ordinary blokes then, pretty sure they'd hang on your every word....
July 2, 201313 yr Why didn't she release the album properly? Could she not get a record deal with a major? She was offered record deals, but decided to do it independently through Pledge Music so she could have full creative control I believe! Plus as the project is completely funded by fans, there is no pressure for it to sell a certain amount in order to make profit.
